The greatest gift one can share with another is knowledge. Your instructor should be very proud of what you've become. Not only are you a first-class woodworker and restorer, but you, like your instructor, are sharing with your videos.
Thanks for giving us this little peek into your life. I’ve been a subscriber for quite a while and I have always been amazed at how clean you keep your shop. I know very little about woodworking and wish now that I had been hands on when watching my dad growing up because I find it fascinating. Even now, the smell of sawdust is very evocative.
Your work is amazing and very satisfying to watch and your videos aren’t filled with annoying edits and music and other various nonsense that so many UA-camrs seem to think are necessary. Your videos match your aesthetic: clean, simple and straightforward. I’m looking forward to your next project! ☺️
Thank you! I love this! Sometimes I wonder myself, why I, a 55 year old wife and mother of 8, like to sit here in Tennessee USA and watch an Estonian man restore furniture on UA-cam. I guess I just find it satisfying to see something old or broken restored to near perfect and I can escape my simple little life for a while. I took wood working for one year in school and I asked for an orbital sander for Christmas.
If you have a "simple little life" my friend, be proud. Some are not so lucky. : )
@@davids6533 Well, with 8 children, 4 still in the house, 2 that I am still homeschooling, a cleaning business and a husband, maybe "simple" wasn't a good choice of words. ;)

I don't know why other people love your videos, but for me it is because you restore things and make them beautiful again. There is so much chaos and destruction in the world and it is very troubling. Watching you fix things and make them new and beautiful again gives me hope.
My dad taught industrial arts. As a young girl, he didn't invite me in his shop, plus I wasn't interested in those tools or sawdust! Now that he is gone, I am older and wiser. I wish I had just put on some coveralls, joined him at the table, and learned those extremely valuable skills. The new furniture is so cheaply made. I want to restore the better antiques for my home. I watch your videos for comfort, inspiration, and education. THANK YOU!

I hadn't seen this video until today! This is great. It answers most of my questions about how you got to be where you are. I loved the photos of Young You, and I particularly appreciated seeing a photo of your teacher. You do him honor. It was good to "meet" your nachines, too. That table saw is amazing. Why am I so eager to watch your videos? It's because I love watching highly skilled people doing their work. I also watch videos about restoring paintings, restoring cars, landscaping, cooking, and even trimming cattle hoofs! It is so wonderful to see how people find something they love and do it WITH love. Let’s start with the end, of course, folks all over the world want to watch, your videos are concise and take us clearly through the process start to finish. Some the projects like the Biedermeier sofa look impossible and yet come out museum quality. I was surprised that through school you were able to study furniture making and restoration. Sadly, I don’t know of any such schools here in the US. When I was young, more then a few years ago we had trade schools and valued them.

You'll be pleased to know that such programs do still exist. A lot of them are found in relation to museum conservation programs, but there are also entry level training courses like the Furniture Academy in NC and Palomar College's (CA) Furniture Technology course. Period Furniture Conservation in NYC trains people with woodworking skills to go into conservation. (Art historian nerd here who knows these things exist from professional research interests. 🙂 )
You probably get your sense of humor from your father. I enjoy your humor and watching you work. Thank you for sharing. 💜
I went to an industrial school called Kurikan Ammattioppilaitos (at the time it was called that, it changed since) in 95-97 and became a joiner. That school was and I guess it still is a friendship school with Tallinna Ehituskool. So in spring of 97 we visited Ehistuskool and stayd in Tallinna for a week. Two guys from Ehituskool spent some time in our school before that and they were our tourist guides in Tallinna and invited us to their homes too. It was a really fun trip and it was cool to see a little part of Estonia.
Yes, I have heard about your school. I know that they are teaching upholstery there in pretty good level.

It's because every one interested in furniture and maybe lots of other like to watch a master at work. What I admire too is that you don't think you know everything and are still taking classes and learning. I will continue to watch in awe as long as you post.
I think my knowledge is deeper (in restoration scene) than average DIY youtuber and people appreciate it. Now after 2 years of Youtubing II also understand what people really want to see. Sometimes there are surprises, like the guitar video. I honestly thought it will fail, but it was one of the most watched video. I try to rise the bar with each video. It doesn´t happen every time but I surely learn with every video.

I think I watch your videos for the same reasons as many of your viewers. There's something wonderful and deeply satisfying about watching someone who is very good at what they do, and also seeing broken and damaged things made whole again. In addition, seeing old things restored shows that we don't have to have the newest thing all the time, but instead puts importance on items of good quality and caring for what we have in front of us. And in a world that is fast, uncertain, often broken, and filled with sad or troubling stories, seeing the calm and deliberate fixing and restoration of something that was damaged is in a small way a reminder that humans are resilient, creative, and industrious, and we can each do little things to repair the world around us, and your little jokes are a reminder that people can find joy and humor in their work.
Also, and this is probably just me, but wood shop noises are like some kind of ASMR when I'm stressed out. Super relaxing. I grew up with a dad who worked in construction, so he never hired someone else to do what he could do himself. He was always building or fixing stuff around the house, and I would always follow him around his workbench in the garage when he did those projects when I was a kid. To this day, the sound of tools and the smell of wood shavings are insanely relaxing and comforting to me. But that's probably just me remembering good times with a father that I miss, and recalling all the things he spent so much time teaching me to do.

I do not have any type of tools really. small hands tools but I do like to make something on occasion. is it perfect..nope never..but its functional. but to see how things come apart that is vintage or antique is truly fascinating and how you can manage to take a piece of rotted trash and turn it into a masterpiece. You are Brilliant at what you do. Thanks for sharing.

Vederlo mi ricorda quando mio padre lavorava nel suo, con tutti gli attrezzi in ordine, i macchinari puliti.. (che abbiamo cominciato a sistemare poco alla volta).. Adesso che non c'è più, mi manca sentire il rumore così familiare della sega in funzione, del rumore del legno che viene tagliato, del carta vetrata che leviga il legno.. Guardarti lavorare mi ricorda i lavori che faceva mio padre e che non farà più.. Grazie! 😊
