If you are honest, you would go & pay the lady additional $$$ based on what you now know about the value of the dolls and accessories. I realize u didn't know the value when offered the lady the $80 total. But there is a line between getting a bargain and taking advantage of someone. You now know what side of this line you are on and there would still be plenty of profit if you do right by the lady. Let your conscience be your guide.

I hear what you’re saying and I’ve actually done similar things in the past after the fact. However, these situations happen all the time to people (this one just happens to be on UA-cam) - so I just thought I’d argue the other side for a sec…mostly because I don’t like terms like “taking advantage.” First, I really dislike throwing out the first number (especially when I’m clueless of value). Sometimes you have to though. You have to start somewhere and you expect a counteroffer and then the negotiation begins. In this case, she accepted the first offer - and frankly, I think she was expecting less. Currently, I’m about 10-12 man hours into research and I’m still not done. In this “business” time is about the most valuable asset you have. I haven’t even started the process of researching how to properly clean these items. Needless to say, I have several hours of work left before I can even begin the process of photographing, listing, describing and packing so I can get shipping weights and dimensions, etc. After everything is listed, I’ll have to field questions and provide customer service, etc. If and when something/everything sells I’ll have to wait until I know the customer is satisfied before I’m able to fully realize what kind of profit was actually made and if it was worth all of the hours of time I put into it. Because, let’s face it, there are plenty of categories I actually know well that would not command this much of my time. At the end of the day, I did not strong arm anyone into anything. I was asked to make an offer, I did and it was accepted with no resistance. The tools for research and finding values are free and available to everyone. The playing field is about as level as it could possibly be. The difference comes down to who is willing to spend the time it takes to fully realize the potential any given item could have. Convenience has a cost. Garage sales are convenient, spending time researching and selling to a worldwide market is not. Again, I’m in no way trying to invalidate your opinion or even change your mind. Your comment was heartfelt and respectful. Like I said, I know these deals happen all the time - I just happen to share my interactions with the world. Figured I’d just play devils advocate in case anyone else reading this shares similar inner struggles. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@FroggyFlips great response! Good for you on supporting your business. I don’t think it’s taking advantage at all. If they wanted to make money on them, they should do the research and work to sell them for more online. Not your problem if they sell at a garage sale and accept what you offer.

@@FroggyFlips You don't have to justify anything to me obviously; you have to be comfortable with yourself. I am not tryimg to judge you & yes, "taking advantage" is a poot choice of words on my part. @@FroggyFlips I agree with you. Some people may think nowadays eBay resellers are 'robbing' poor people rn. But as my observation for 10 years on eBay ( but I just start reselling recently) and from those high-end vintage shops in Manhattan, upcycling and reselling is a long tradition in the US. Resellers are putting more effort and passion into this business than people may think. I think UA-camrs make it looks like "Woah, an easy flip, an easy 1 to 100!". That does not happen most time. In reality, you have to source 100 items to find that only one gem, and items take time to sell. During the rest time, you have to travel, source, clean, take pictures, sort, storage, etc. TONS OF WORK. And you have to keep a garage full of junk which may be sold tomorrow or may go back to junk eventually. I take this experience as a fun adventure to know the neighborhood, learn the history, and do some market research. As talk of money, not really.

Aww, the Barbie and GI Joe stuff is making my heart pitter-patter as I reminisce about my favorite childhood pastime! You did GREAT! There is no reason to feel bad, I think your offer was extremely fair, especially not knowing exactly what was there and all the many hours of research you now have to put into it is something other people commenting on dont take into consideration. Face it, the original seller could have done the same thing but chose to sell at a yard sale and was fine with the $80 offer. This is exactly WHY we go to yard sales! Yeah for You!

The Barbies are amazing score. I have sold a good deal of vintage Barbies, I have sold heads and torsos and everything Barbie. Don't discount that talking Barbie torso, on its own t's probably $20 to $30. Thought I would give you a little info - which you may have gathered by now!- the doll you pulled out from the first case around 16:16 is Francie. 19:03 Malibu Barbie from the 1970s) 19:09 that's either Casey or Twiggy and then 19:10 there is a dark haired doll: she is valuable and rarer: her name is Scooter and is Skipper's friend- I would sell it seperately, could be $80. I am so proud of you for picking up vintage Barbies!

I sold a small lot of Barbie outfits from the 1960s a few years ago. They were not in good condition - some stains and holes - , but they had the accessories - hats, purses shoes. There were 5 or 6 outfits and they sold to someone in England for about $450. then they had to pay import duties and postage. They were thrilled ! So, if you can match up the accessories with the outfits, it will increase the value. I would mine at a church rummage sale in a box of kitchen gadgets . I would have fainted if I had found what you did !

I love seeing what you find out in the wild. When I was a girl, I had that exact same Barbie case (the white one) and I have to admit my heart sunk to find out what it's worth today. That happens a lot when I watch thrifting/yard sale videos. "I had that!" is a common refrain. LOL But I sure do enjoy watching you find it all, and it's making me itchy to get back out to thrifting and picking again. Thanks!

I honestly think people who say that he scanned that person or took advantage of them has never run a business or remotely understands what it takes to run a business. Obviously this content is curated to show finds, but so much is left out. The actual drive to the place, the many places you walk out with nothing. The times you buy something that was fake or you took a gamble and lost. It’s not like you can go back and return it. Not would anyone expect the seller to take it back. It would almost unanimously be understood it’s the buyer’s fault in this setting. So why can’t he find scores? If he’s not making a lot of money on something’s it won’t balance out with expenses and losses… great video bud keep it up!

The clothes are worth a mint. Don't sell in lots. Your investment is very small so you can just take your time with it. You probably will never find another lot like this except in the hands of collectors or resellers. I would slowly go through all the clothes and keep doing the research. You have several thousands there. Once you make your money I would go back and bless that lady with a little bit of it, but that is just me.

Fortunately..I was able to buy a refurbished Barbie from a former Mattel employee when I retired in 2008. I don’t think I would lot that much stuff together of Barbie stuff unless you want a fast turnaround. I would suspect it would be bought by a reseller who would part it out for quite a bit more. Research and listing individually will take time, but considering that some outfits alone my be worth $15-100 it may be worth your time. :)

I read these comments talking about honesty and taking advantage of people and I have to laugh. I've been in business as a contractor for 30 years. It is not the same business but there are some similarities/parallels. I travel to potential projects and spend time bidding work that I may or may not get, you go to sale after sale not knowing if you will find anything worth buying and not knowing how fast you can sell the items tying up your capital. There is huge overhead involved with this. All of these costs have to be factored into the business model. After I get a contract signed I have to complete the work and after you buy items you have to complete a sale, both require a ton of labor, the research and data entry alone to list items seems massive. When I finish a project I get paid for the project, in this business it seems there is no telling when something will sell, who knows when the payday will come, you may sit on items for a long time and have to sell it at cost if it doesn't move. Selling something at cost is a loss, heaven forbid you have to sell it for a loss or even throw it away. It is important to get buys like this (projects in my case) to make up for the times things don't work out or sell as anticipated. Until someone has been in business for themself and experienced the feast and famine involved they could never begin to understand.

You'll do well on the Barbie stuff. Lot it up if you want to sell it quick. I'd sell the clothes separately. Love watching your yard sale finds.

I am so jealous over the jewelry at that sale. You got it for so cheap!!! I would have at least given her $200 and taken it all...then made a lot off reselling it. Wow! WOW! WOW!

I had gotten a Barbie set from 1961. I hadn't had time to research any of it when a "friend" started crying, that it was similar to the one she had as a kid and how bad she wanted it. Needless to say I caved and gave it to her because of her crying about her childhood. She immediately went to ebay and found the pricing around $400. So much for the childhood memories.

Awe that sweet lady, I feel her pain... I lost my childhood Barbies in a storage unit I defaulted on when I was going through a divorce and I started trying to rebuild the collection last year and it's hard considering some are outrageously expensive now! I'm sure you'll do well on those! :)

Kind of like Valley of the Dead, Decapitated, and Naked! Very catchy title too! She seemed not to have cared that much about her dolls or maybe she played the heck out of them when she was little. Another good one!

I have been selling on eBay for many years, and recently it has become a great souse of income in my semi retired life. What people don't understand is how many estate sales you go to in the middle of winter and wait in line for 2 hours, or how many garage sales you go to and find nothing. Not to mention how many times you get ripped off. So for this person who probably knows nothing about what we do and how hard it is and throw shame on you is just wrong. Froggy you are one of the only people I watch on UA-cam and actually learn a few things. Keep up the good work.

Those jewelry bags could be amazing! I once bought a bunch of big glitzy ‘costume’ rings at a garage sale. It wasn’t until much later and closer inspection they all turned out to be marked 10 k and 14 k. You can just never tell!
