Although Botox and filler could be beneficial, it is NOT A NEED. Some people choose to age gracefully and accept the way their skin will sag. No shade either way.
Yes, didn’t mean to imply anyone NEEDS it, but it’s very funny (in my experience because I have talked about my own filler and botox experiences online for the last 4-5 years) how when the topic is brought up, there is always a population of people who have to announce how much they will age gracefully lol.
@C Gibson I don’t feel like she said it in a snobby or superior way.and honestly, just because one person says that humans needs go in any particular order doesn’t make them right.that may be what’s important to that person.you may care about wrinkles, someone else may not and may consider them beautiful.some women feel like they need to wear make up to look their best, others don’t.it’s all depending on the person and that’s all
I know what you meant. He’s just a regular person to me.and that is still, just his opinion.just because something is in cosmos does not make it true.lol.but I’m not debating whether or not self esteem is a higher need.what I’m saying is that Botox isn’t a priority for everyone in order to feel good about themselves.what she said was Botox is not a NEED.I agree.is self esteem a need? Yes,but everyone has different things that make them feel good about themselves which in turn boosts their self esteem.some people like to wear designer clothes some like to get their nails and hair done some don’t care about that and having a bunch of degrees is what does it for them to really feel good about themselves.again ,everyone has individual needs inside of that higher need.Botox may be a need for you to feel good.it isn’t for me.and that’s ok
@@lisaredd6008 I agree. I hate sitting in the salon for hours on end, so the whole "getting my hair done every week" was never my thing. However, I would like some filler for my deep laugh lines. What makes people feel good about themselves is different from person to person and no one should judge what makes others feel good about themselves.
Exactly, fillers can be wonderful for those of us who are insecure about aging or how certain parts of our bodies look. Sagging and wrinkling at 40+ is not a pathology that needs a cure though 🤣 and the whole doctor as salesman thing is unethical.
I'm sorry this whole video give me anxiety my heart was beating extremely fast. I'm terrified of anything that might harm my face. I see so many celebrities with horrible botox and fillers. Poor Vivica Fox.
Same I just don’t trust anyone with my face. Plus doctors always talk about the benefits of getting Botox and fillers but don’t talk about the long term side effects.
I'm 52 I think skincare is key I'm not against fillers but people be going overboard, I've been using retinoids for 25 years and alot of other products that will keep your skin young, you want to slow down the aging process instead of trying to reverse it ,I'm staying frozen maybe I'll look into fillers when I'm 70 lol

@B Real why take everything with a grain of salt?? He did address the risk. Would you take what your cardiologist says with a grain of salt? Or your eye doctor? Or your general surgeon? Everything comes with a risk, even with the medications you take, heck even the food that we eat. It is up to the consumer when doing cosmetics procedures to do your research, speak to your doctor (the expert) and get all the information and then make the best decision for you.
I’m guessing his office offers permanent makeup and he is comfortable testing out all the procedures he offers! I’m happy he said he gets fillers and Botox as a man of color!!! I like him! Great family photo… I judged the cover before I knew and thought he was definitely against being with a woman of color. Kudos for him and being a family man.
People just need to be ok with growing old . That’s the most beautiful part of life is growing older to me . Quit making people feel like they need these things in order to look better . To me (nobody has to agree )just eat better and take care of your body and skin .
Nobody is fearing growing old...lol. You couldn't pay me to be 20 again, but I can also be happy at 40 and not have under eye hollows---both can exist :) And yes, one should eat well, but no amount of veggies is going to target under eye hollows or skin sagging.
I get what your saying too but not everybody get these under eye hollows either . You may not do it cause your scared of getting older but some people do and what I said was referring to them and people that make them feel like they need all that .
@@noelchenault2749 I was using the under eye hollows as a personal example, but there are many signs of aging that just diet and over the counter skincare products cannot fully address.
I get filler in my smile lines area it was the best thing I could have ever did.. I’m 47 I love hearing you don’t look your age..the key is we don’t need the whole needle in your face.. just because you paid for it don’t mean you need the whole filler in your face.. that’s when you start to look crazy
61. I started with filler in my (sinking chin) and smile lines. 7 years later and no one has ever asked if I was getting anything done. I get 1 vile of Restalyn a year and botox 4 times a year in my chin. Keeps the skin from getting dimples. I also enjoy Sculpsure! It's more of a collagen booster. Results are not immediate but they are effective. Though costly I cut my budget in other areas. I rarely get other beauty treatments. Most treatments that I can do myself I will in order to afford the ones I need a Professional for. My injector is local. My one and only with no negative incidents. I'm very grateful have found her.
This was great! Thank you for interviewing a Black professional in the field! What a wealth of info! Definitely feel more confident about trying Botox now.
He's absolutely correct. My mother had very, very few wrinkles when she passed and the doctors and nurses were amazed at how beautiful her skin was. She was 89; a black woman. She never smoked and never drank.
What he said about the eye pads / mid face muscles dragging in the mid face- I've addressed this with several estheticians and they all seem surprised when I say it's common in African American faces. So I have been told that there's nothing that can be done about this- I'd like to hear from a BLACK Esthetician your opinion on what options are available to us as we age
Thanks for this topic. As a black woman that wants to understand more about the benefits of Botox for my face. Thanks for providing knowledge. He’s right the ads don’t look like me. ☺️ Again thanks and please keep doing videos on this topic. Maybe some before and after pictures of women of color.

I’m planning on getting it but I’m scared I have genetic sunken eyes and I hate it, I want filler to cover it but don’t know anything about the procedure
I have been interested in getting my laugh lines filled. I have lost a lot of weight and so my face is a little more hollow than I would like. I am also interested in knowing if it hurt.
Great video. Everyone can do what they feel is best for them. Personally I have fillers and have had Botox as well. I love the fresh look it gives me BUT just because you have fillers and/or Botox does not mean you don't need a good skin care regimen. Thanks for sharing. 😊
I think Viv and Jada are examples we talk about in our groups. I also think that with age, the weight fluctuates and it doesn’t help either. Great video as always. I may have to get back on the curious train. Thanks for sharing 💕
His laugh had me howling! My kinda Doc! Thank you for this video and dispelling alot of myths. Always great to have as much truthful information as possible.
I know that this is an older video but I wanted to say thank you for this. Finally someone discussing this for women of color! When it comes to face lifts, I haven't found one single YT cosmetic surgeon showing before and after photos of people that are even just olive tone let alone darker. None of them show what the scars look like on anyone. People of color can scar differently. I've seen the scar on Caucasian skin and the area around the hairline was a lot lighter. Thank you for this video.
I have hereditary sunken eyes. I've Ben getting fillers for 4 years and love it. It just helps me look less tired. There's a point when creams and serums just won't do it. Get references and referrals and don't go cheap. It's your face!
I've been getting undereye filler for almost 5 years. It's literally changed my life. I'm so happy with my face; I look refreshed and a little bit younger.
I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU POSTED THIS! My prayers have been answered. The Doctor’s comment on muscle atrophy is unfortunately true.. as someone with TMJ, I had injections in the exact spot where he was pointing at. I noticed that not only do I have muscle atrophy, but one side is worse than the other. And I got this done almost 3 years ago. But because my left side is more active than the right, my face looks uneven. I did a FaceTime call with my family the other day and I felt so ugly. I’ve been try to active those muscles to bring volume back, but I’m not sure what to do:(
@@styleandbeautydoctor when this happened, she said that the botox would wear off in a few months and so will the muscle atrophy. She told me that she has botox there on herself to look more chiseled, so I trusted her thinking I’d be fine. However, my new injector told me she would’ve never put botox there because of my narrow jaw/slim face 🥲 I’m just really thankful I found her ❤️
Y’all funny but to say people need it is kinda mean and unnecessary in my opinion especially if they’re comfortable with themselves. Isn’t it okay to just be okay with yourself too? I enjoyed your page because I felt no judgment, you’re always positive, and I wanted to learn more about black skincare so this “the ones that need it the most” caught me off guard. I thought about filler for under my eyes, like you, I have had under eye hollows since I was a child. I recently looked at pics from when I was a toddler and there they were. I’m 42 now and I notice them more or maybe it’s because I’m getting older and I am critical of the aging process. I also have a scar right on the line of where my left hollow ends, from double dutching with an extension cord and got popped in the face when I was young. I’m going to wait to start getting it done when money is not an issue at all. Cause right now sis needs lasik!
Danielle, Thank You for this! I have often thought about this topic. It's nice to see people who look like me discuss this subject. Skin procedures are sometimes different for darker skin (lasers) and I would only want an African American doctor to do any procedures ,as well as plastic surgery on me. We don't have many black providers in the North East.
I’ve had Botox around my eyes and it was great. I actually could’ve used more because it didn’t stop my muscles enough. Get it gradually. It’s like $13/ per shot.
Thanks for this video. You hit some key points I needed clarification on. This information will allow me to be more confident in my decisions with Botox and filler. Love your channel ❤️
Botox and fillers is like everything else do it very moderately and you'll be OK. You cannot fight aging, but you can give yourself a little bit of a refresher.
thank you so much! I started writing scripts for the videos before I film them and it makes it so much easier now and my editor is on it with the edits. Thank you so much for noticing!
Interesting info, doctors need to talk about long term side effects of using Botox and fillers. I’ve been intrigued by this but it seems more like a temporary solution. I think I would be interested on a mini facelift or deep plane face lift at some point because it seems to have more lasting and immediate results.
That’s a great option for those who want something permanent. I personally would rather start with something that will wear off just in case I don’t like it. You can’t reverse a surgical lift. I would only do a lift if I’m like 50 or 60.
Thank you for this. I’ve always been made fun of my nose and my lips. My dad is black and we have the same nose. I now embrace it because what I thought was ugly, is something I cherish because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Anyone that gets fillers/botox, it’s a personal choice and it’s not for me to judge or even say don’t do it. I just want to age like my abuela. This content is what I live for 🥰
@@Covers-and-Commentary I’m really sorry. I go through story time with how I wrote my comments. It’s is about aging. My only knowledge growing up in Puerto Rico was botox was for the rich and famous and I’m now understanding filler and how some use it to change their appearance. Watching this video was very informative and I appreciate it. I’m sorry for the ignorant comment at the beginning.
I wanted fillers over 10 years ago and a friend told me I was into “white people stuff” 😳 I never realized she didn’t relate because of marketing. After all these years Im gonna give her a$$ a pass and let the comment go 🤣.
I LOVE Botox and fillers! I lost a lot of weight, and with that I lost volume in my face. The filler helps my face look less gaunt. And I get Botox for the pinched muscles between my eyes cuz I squint too much. No one can tell, and they only know because I tell them.
Wow ! true...My botox stopped working as well after the second time and by the third it only lasted 2 weeks after it finally started working...so 4 weeks post injection I could frown again.... I mentioned this to my Dr. and he looked at me like I was crazy when I suggested I had developed a "tolerance" to botox or something like that....I changed Dr:s and the new doc's botox worked better than ever!
To each her own. I don't understand where the obsession with injections came from but i am glad you offer the info to learn. I am not here to judge sistas who get these procedures but i do fear them getting too much and looking like jigsaw as you say...highlarious. Or dare i say it that really pretty white lady from back in the day they wound up calling cat woman. I hope someone just talks to lil kim and vivica. They are starting to look like Cat People in my humble opinion. I don't understand it but i will take all the info so that i don't come off as obtuse. Peace and Love.
This video was really helpful. I recently got Botox and I really love my results! I noticed lines on my forehead were still there after I relaxed my face. I still have facial expressions and look like my old self. Just my forehead is set in stone!😂 I for one always thought Botox and lip fillers were for white people tho😕…NOPE!
I’m 31 about to be 32 i was thinking about getting my glabellar lines done . It’s hereditary in my family to get the frown lines and mine are not going away when i relax . Do you have botox or filler? I just want it to look natural and like myself.
thank you! Interestingly I just made an appointment at Dr. Hartman’s practice the day before you posted this. This was very enlightening,! Now I am looking forward to my appointment!
Thank you for the information. I have been considering botox and possible fillers. I want to put it off for as long as possible. I rely on sunscreen, facials, and serums at this point. I see some areas that may become problematic, as I age. I will definitely consider it when the time comes.
I have Hemifacial syndrome and the neurologist was suggestion botox that would have to be done on a schedule basic. I looked up the Boxtoc and they did say that it does effect the muscle tissue in time. so I refuse this remedy because ran into a lady that had the same condition and she said it made her face look like she had a stroke. Well if you see rich people get bad results, then it could scare people off because if celebrities' can afford the best doctors and look like a hot mess, who have time to hide in their house if things don't come out right those procedures are not free so on Monday they got to go to work. And just like the doctor in this video said when black people are not looking at getting these type of procedures done it take away the possible source of income from those in this field. Also with more mixture in our DNA, exposure to toxins, stress and harsh environment it no longer true that all black don't crack. You know that it probably important to have someone that looks at this as an art and not just a procedure. Because the filler if done too severe it would seem it could stretch out the skin and then more fillers would be needed next time. Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the days to come.
She said it made her face look that way, or did it actually make it look that way? It is really not that difficult to do research about botox, and the doctors you want to treat, and if they have treated patients with your condition. It seems uneducated, to make a decision based on one person, I do wonder how botox helps treat hemifacial syndrome, all that I can find is that botox is a treatment option for hemifacial spasm. I've probably searched the wrong thing.
@@pearlcnrd She said that she did look up the treatment. When you are suffering from a condition you don't want the treatment it to make it worse. Even though all medical procedures come with risk, long term effects and side effects are crucial. Testimony from someone who has been through it and suffers from the same ailment is important information that should not be discounted. I agree other testimonies would be better, but it''s hard to find many people willing to talk who have the same condition and be sure they aren't being biased.🤷🏽♀️ This is what the medical industries does. Its filled with procedures but lacks the practical information from patients who have been through them. You never get to talk to them.
@@yaaharriott I understand where this person is coming from 100%, however I do not think they should be deterred by a single persons sadly horrible turn out. I know how scary it is to hear about somebody with the same thing as you have a horrible turn out, but that should not be evidence enough to hinder treatment that may help somebody ease their symptoms, their self esteem etc. I empathize with them especially as it is something regarding their appearance too, which also heightens the stakes.
Thank you for this! I'm 32 and have been thinking about Botox. I've heard some ppl get botox annually so to hear it lasts 3-4 months was surprising. I love this video. Thanks girl!
I like when you have doctors on your channel. You should try interviewing a plastic surgeon sometime because their approach is usually so different from derms’.
you are reading my mind! I've been wanting to get more plastic surgeons on the channel for sure. I have one in mind, but just have to plan out ideas and how to best present the info.
I do want Botox and I think I’ll be doing that in January. I want to hold off on the filler and wait to get the mini face lift that they say some ladies get around 40. A gorgeous older Black woman at my gym pulled me aside and told me she got eyelid surgery and a tummy tuck. She’s about 20yrs older than me and suddenly had better eyes than me! Lol I’m tempted to do something like that before fillers, but my doctor also thinks I don’t even need fillers yet (I do have natural bags I want to get rid of).
Style and Beauty Doctor, thank you for a most excellent video. You do look very beautiful and quite natural. Women of color definitely need to know how safe these procedures are before the process takes place. Thank you so much for this honest and seriously valuable information. ... Have a beautiful Christmas holiday!!
I think the size of her face is more weight gain but then when you add the botox and fillers it makes her look like a different person. And most people gain some weight as we age.
I get botox every 3-4 months without shame and filler every year or so. I simply replenish what was los! To each his or her own. I don't think one should put another down for getting them.
@@niierkan2022 honestly that would depend on the individual, what they are will to spend but also where you live! Fillers can me significantly cheaper or more expensive depending on where you get them

Getting fillers seems very iffy. A good outcome mainly depends on IF you choose a good doctor that actually knows what they are doing. The doc in this video answered a lot of questions, but the answers I am sure are going to scare a lot of people away from these procedures. Atrophying muscles, overfilling, etc etc. Some of the outcomes and side effects are not worth it for a lot of people.
What are the benefits of Botox and fillers tho? Having toxins put in my body for the purpose of defying age…not for me but to each is own. Endorphins and temporary fixes and looking like a plastic doll doesn’t make sense but hey that’s my opinion.
I totally agree with you. I’m this society looking beautiful and young is highly prized. When people go for plastic surgery all the time they are constantly seeking beaut and youth and that can become an addiction. I’m almost 40 and yes there are some aging I see but it is what it is.

Exactly, fillers can be wonderful for those of us who are insecure about aging or how certain parts of our bodies look. Sagging and wrinkling at 40+ is not a pathology that needs a cure though 🤣 and the whole doctor as salesman thing is unethical.
All all. It’s vanity.

You don’t need Botox or fillers period. It’s the person’s preference if they want to do it. And aging is normal and there is nothing wrong with it.
Each to their own as long as you are living your best life! Me thinks 🤷🏾♀️
How to go about telling someone what they need other than food and water?
Lol, that's if you're not in the dating market.
People just need to be ok with growing old . That’s the most beautiful part of life is growing older to me . Quit making people feel like they need these things in order to look better . To me (nobody has to agree )just eat better and take care of your body and skin .
Nobody is fearing growing old...lol. You couldn't pay me to be 20 again, but I can also be happy at 40 and not have under eye hollows---both can exist :)
And yes, one should eat well, but no amount of veggies is going to target under eye hollows or skin sagging.

I know that this is an older video but I wanted to say thank you for this. Finally someone discussing this for women of color! When it comes to face lifts, I haven't found one single YT cosmetic surgeon showing before and after photos of people that are even just olive tone let alone darker. I’ve been try to active those muscles to bring volume back, but I’m not sure what to do:(
omg I'm so sorry! what did the person who did it say about this?
@@styleandbeautydoctor when this happened, she said that the botox would wear off in a few months and so will the muscle atrophy.

Interesting info, doctors need to talk about long term side effects of using Botox and fillers. I’ve been intrigued by this but it seems more like a temporary solution. That’s a great option for those who want something permanent. I personally would rather start with something that will wear off just in case I don’t like it. You can’t reverse a surgical lift. I would only do a lift if I’m like 50 or 60.

Well said, 'As Art', same with Dentist, Plastic Surgery, 😊

Loved this video and made me feel comfortable moving forward with my decision!
