    Step by Step on how to do white belt kata taikyoku shodan performed by Jason Leung Sensei 4th Dan in Shotokan Karate. There are 20 moves in this Shotokan kata. They consist of gedan barai and oi tsuki. These are the only two techniques that are required, as well as a good zenkutsu dachi or front stance. Make sure to distribute your weight 70 percent to the front and 30 percent in the back. So now, at the convenience of learning and practicing karate in your own home, you will be able to watch this and repeat this as many times as you like. OSS!

    Good day Sensei, when I started doing JKA karate in 1980, our 1st kata we did when we graded for yellow belt, was Heian Shodan. I only became aware of Taikyoku Shodan when I started watching your UA-cam channel. Has last mentioned kata replaced Heian Shodan as the white belt kata when grading for yellow belt? Our grade structure back then was white, yellow, orange, blue, purple 1&2, red 1,2 &3, brown 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and black1, 2, etc.

    Hello, thank you for the great tutorial, but my teachers taught me Taikyoku Shodan a little differently from what you showed in the video. (we have our feet together, not pointing at a 45 degree angle when we bow, we just get into the yoi/ready position in a basic way without doing anything special like crossing elbows, we don't shoot out the other arm to protect ourselves when we change the direction, and we put our fists near our ear instead of on our shoulder.) Should I do exactly what it says in this video, or follow what my teachers taught me? I have belt testing soon, in a different gym, and I'm scared I'll fail because I can make no more than 1 mistake. ❤ Is this because there are different styles of this kata?

    Jason, this may be a dumb question but im sort of new to karate lol. I wanted to ask, if your in a real street fight situation, can u use kata in fighting?

    • @ULTIMATEKARATEOFFICIAL
      @ULTIMATEKARATEOFFICIAL  Рік тому

      You can use the principles you may develop through kata, like focus, speed, awareness, power, and distance management. But can you use the kata itself? No, you cannot. Real fights are dirty and unpredictable, the movement from an unknown assailant is polar opposite the clean straight punches you see at karate dojo. I personally train kata to train the subtle aspects of martial arts. And at my school we do grappling and more freestyle sparring to round out the style.
