- Since the Quest 2 launched the UI (user interface) has changed A LOT and many videos showing how to record your Quest 2 gameplay are sadly out of date. Not to mention Oculus (aka Meta) has also added the ability to record gameplay in 16:9 widescreen 1080p resolution rather than the default 1:1 aspect ratio at 1024 x 1024. In this video you'll learn how to record both Native aka Stand Alone Quest 2 gameplay directly to your Quest 2 headset and how to copy your captures to a PC so you can edit them to make super sweet VR UA-cam videos. Also you'll learn how to MASSIVELY improve the quality of your recordings by changing the Aspect Ratio, Frame Rate and Bit Rate of your recordings. Get ready to up your game because here we go.

Omg knowing these little tricks have made making videos for games an absolute dream. When Quest 2 launched, these questions came up so often, and nobody really knew the best way to either record high-quality videos or stream high qualy videos. Since it's launched, there have been really great and effective ways to increase the image quality of the recordings. I'm glad that you're showing the secrets for this.
Many vr content creators make such beautiful videos showing just how pretty these games really are. The reality of which can be a bit disappointing when you try to do the same, and the video comes out all muddy and blurry!
Sigma... You're awesome man. You'll never know how much I appreciate you taking the time to check out my videos and leave a comment. I love this stuff and love sharing what I've learned with other people. I just hope those who are looking will be able to find it and enjoy.
I been looking for videos like this for a long time thanks for helping me
In Quest pop-up, you can just click the red record button. No need to click on the camera and then do it from another menu. (At 4:53, the red cicle with the white square directly beneath "Red Matter 2"). Same with starting recording, unless you want to do that before the game is started.

@@pawpawtina Nice, good tip!
You should also mention OBS and Autohotkey for people that want to stream. With AutoHotkey I have capacitive thumb "rests" set to a variety of commands like start/stop recording, save instant replay, push to talk for discord.
i haave just recorded and edited my quest 2 footage thanks to you!
That's awesome! I hope you enjoy!
great video, thank you.
SUPER COOL TUTORIAL! THANKS!
Bro you are awesome! Thank you so much you are a life saver, every tutorial I look up it always says you need side quest. Now I can make good videos with no PC, God bless you and everyone here today. ( I'm the 300th liker :] )
Funny enough, I was JUST looking at how to record. Sidequest offers something called ScrCpy and you'll be able to record using your PC....figure I mention it since it seems like less of a headache to do it this way via PC.
2:25 my god, did not expect to be reminded of glove and boots in 2023 haha. this is a great tutorial, thank you for making it :D
thank you so much lol ii could not for the life of me figure out how to stop recording squares
i love thar red muppet XD " NOBDY CARES ABOUT YOUUUUU"
Ok, if you are going to record a full length video around 10-20 minutes long, would you record it in segments or click record and keep it on the whole way to the end?
I’m not an og your already at 641 subscribers but you just gained another one
Thank you for this video i had no idea that the settings are now in the quest itself and you don't need side quest i hated having to go on to side quest every time i wanted to record just to make sure that the recording settings were right
thanks like and sub from me
By any chance can you make a vr review for the rx7600 :) ?
I plan to eventually. I'm waiting for Oculus and AMD to get their crap together and get VR working properly first.
Does this work for the Quest 3 as well?
Hi I record couple times some videos in share using what up in post them on tiktop now I try to record videos the image doesn't show only black screen on the video in noises I want to know is is a rule or something in how I can fix my videos to show normal thank u
How do I get rid of the black edges on the side when I turn my head? I don’t have a pc
A bit of an odd question, but is it possible to display a quest standalone game on your PC so that you can record via a 3rd party PC recording software, instead of using quest's inbuilt one?
you can but it depends on how you do it. I was testing which would run better, and using air link to cast it to my pc and record with obs the bit rate was awful, resolution was like 340p at best. But recording a game like Into The Radius I can have higher quality but it's a bit stuttery in the headset but looks fine on video so you either have to deal with lesser quality depending on how the game is or deal with stutters for better video
I have seen in some other VR UA-cam videos where the person takes the camera into their hand off their head.
How do I do that?
How do I record passthrough natively? I want to go for a walk and record it.
Thanks for not skipping steps like some of these stupid videos people make.
So my problem is the audio never syncs. Is there a fix or a way to make it work?
How do I change which eye is recorded on pcvr?
Hey when I record on headset with standalone, after a few mins of recording my audio lags(not microphone) and as more of the recording goes the lag continues to get worse. Know of any fix?
Hey. I have a HUGEEE problem with screen recording not with the view but the videos I record, it just shows a blue screen only with the noise or mic so do u know how to resolve that problem?
seen Jesus on the back of your set-up, earned a sub from me 100% great video btw helped a lot with my videos.
thanks this helped me a lot
as soon as i start the standalone recording of the quest 2 my view gets choppy and laggy and the recording looks awefull.. i have it on 1080p and 60fps at 15mb/s
When recording it shows out my right eye but when i cast it does not am i missing something
My fps is stuck at 30 no extra settings way to fix that for recording
Widescreen isn't widescreen though. you actually see less than witht he 4:4 style image. Just chops off the top/bottomand zooms in the picture. If only it were possible to actually record anything in 16:9-style :p
Does the gameplay and audio lose sync the longer the recording is? I saw a video saying that it’ll lose sync after while.
Now that you mention it... that does happen sometimes. I'm always using my captures for UA-cam videos, so I just sync the audio back up in my video editing software. Takes some trial and error to get it dialed in, but it's usually pretty easy to fix.
Yeah im having this issue. Is there a simple fix?
I have a problem with audio when recording on my quest 2, theres some audio delay. do you know how to fix that?
The only way I know to fix it is to bring the capture into some editing software, separate the audio from the video and then adjust the placement of the audio until it's synced up correctly.
Will you also record everyones voice you are playing with?
Yeah!
what are the best settings for gtag recording?
to not play gtag at all
Is there any way I’d be able to transfer my recordings on to a phone to edit the clips or a way to edit without a pc
There’s a setting on the camera settings again called “upload to oculus app” or something like that, or in files you can manually turn it on per video and it’ll upload online in an hour or two straight to your headset
Edit: from there you can download it on the app under a video section
damn, 17-19 tb of total storage.
But what if you don't have a pc and stuck with a phone?
When i record my recordings are just a grey screen. Do you know how to fix this?
It’s your quest trying to load the video, if you stay on it long enough or back out and into it it should fix it, or better wifi
@@Vampklz i fixed it
When I try this it's just a black screen can someone please help me
My Quest game is laggy when I record
3:31 im interested but i dont see a card and when i looked it up i couldnt find it
If you're watching on mobile, you need to tap on the video title and then scroll all the way to the bottom to bring up the videos in the cards.
Here's a link to the video though.

the headsets recording feature with virtural desktop is terrible. Audio out of sync, choppy, and god forbid if your in a call also with a friend playing multiplayer.
What game was that?
Which game would you be referring to? I played several different ones in the video. At the very beginning of the video 0:00 is footage from Contractors VR; it has TONS of mod maps many from COD, CSGO and others. At 0:21 is Red Matter 2, 1:26 is Breachers, 2:35 is Richie's Plank Experience, 3:57 is Contractors VR again, 5:08 is Half Life Alyx (PC VR)
Sorry I didn’t specify but you answered it. It was contractors

dont do this and dont set the frame rate to 24
Why
@@kaizuko_ frames without motion blur need to be captured at a high rate otherwise they looks like stills. 120fps is possibe on quest 3 @hometreegamestudio
@@kaizuko_ and it makes the game look like its running at 24 fps which i dont need to explain is crap. Why is this not obvious
@@GeorgeStanmore yeah i understand thx you dude
