  • The Aquabound Manta Ray and Sting Ray kayak paddles are very similar, the biggest difference being that the Sting Ray paddles are slimmer and "low-angle" which means they're meant for the recreational paddler more than the Manta Ray model.
I own both and honestly cannot tell the difference in their in-water performance. But I'm also a novice that only paddles 6-8 times a year in flat water.
Both models cost the same and have the same variety of options, like their materials (carbon, fiberglass, or hybrid) I prefer carbon for its weight and feel in your hands; and their locking system, (Posi-Lok or Versa-Lok ferrule system). I prefer the Posi-Lok for its simplicity.
Both models also come in either 2-piece or 4-piece models. The only difference here is for stowage when traveling. Obviously the 4-piece stows in a much smaller space, something important if you're hauling in an SUV or something similar.
You may think the 4-piece paddles might be weaker or more flimsy in the water but this absolutely NOT the case! You literally cannot tell the difference with their in-water performance.
My only complaint about the 4-piece optioned models is that the paddles can become somewhat difficult to remove, especially when your hands are wet. The pieces become tightly jammed together with expansion and contraction of the temperature, and with any sand or grit that might get in their. The tolerances are very tight! However, by scuffing the shaft just a bit with sandpaper I was able to make them still fit tightly and perfectly, and still release easily after each paddle.
I love both models or these Aquabound paddles, and am so glad I spent the money.

The Manta Ray has a wider blade for more power and high angle paddling. The Sting Ray has a slender blade for less stressful, low angle paddling. Both come in 2 and 4 piece models.

It’s weird because to the naked eye you can’t tell the difference between the two.

The Manta Ray blade is only 1" wider than the Sting Ray but it has 64 square centimeters more of surface area.
The Manta Ray blade dimensions are:
      Blade Size: 7.5 x 18 in. (19 x 46 cm)
Blade Surface Area: 102.5 sq. in. (661 sq. cm)
The Sting Ray blade dimensions are:
      Blade Size: 6.5 x 18 in. (16.5 x 46 cm)
Blade Surface Area: 92.5 sq. in. (597 sq. cm)
I currently have a 2 piece Sting Ray but I plan to get a 2 piece Manta Ray.
