    I just drove a 2018 Toyota Camry XSE And I don’t think the system is half bad. The subwoofer in the trunk however has a very tiny magnet and I would have to replace it with an aftermarket one to get much better bass.

    • @prlexlatino

      RockGod333 what size is the subwoofer? Would you know?

    • @xlneoMAXlx
      @xlneoMAXlx 6 років тому +2

      If the magnet is small it's probably neodymium, which is more magnetic than ferrite. The stock sub in an `18 xse is trash though, rattles really bad and can't perform below 40hz. Aftermarket is a must.

    • @Acoustic_Theory
      @Acoustic_Theory 6 років тому +1

      FYI, that "very tiny magnet" is a neodymium magnet. By weight, it is 10 times more powerful than the "black donut" ceramic magnet that has been used for decades, and even though it is also about 5 times more expensive by weight, it is used to save weight from the vehicle and preserve your mileage. The japanese car makers are obsessive about weight and will do everything possible to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle by making small savings everywhere they can.

    Honestly I was interested in Toyota’s with the JBL sound System bc I’ve owned a Bluetooth JBL speaker before and it was so good that it definitely beat the quality of sound that my 2013 Prius has built-in - so I would actually have seamless uninterrupted music and would just play from my phone through my BT JBL speaker and carry it with me everywhere, from the house to the bike to the car. So, maybe I would opt for a different trim level and save on a package and just get another $200 JBL Bluetooth portable speaker! ;P you can also customize and give yourself leather interior for a couple grand. So, I don’t know if it’s worth it to spend thousands extra on a car model that has the extras built in....but if budget is less of an issue.... I was interested and excited Toyota partnered with JBL for their sound System bc my past experience with the JBL brand was surprisingly memorable and excellent.

    Hi Mike,
    I have a Camry SE, obviously, not the JBL system, but from what I have noticed the volume of the sound system adjusts when you're driving. I've noticed it increases in volume in higher speeds (when the engine is pushing more) and goes down when you slow down or are stopped. I'm not exactly sure what this is called, but I have heard this is a typical feature in all factory car systems.

    • @MikesMedia
      @MikesMedia  7 років тому +2

      +Charliegone It must have speed adjusted volume. Some cars allow you to adjust it or turn it off.

    • @wantsanewvehicle
      @wantsanewvehicle 7 років тому +1

      speed compensated volume (it might be what the 'automatic sound levelizer' is in this video), I hate it and turn it off if I am in a vehicle that has it. You can turn it off, or it has different levels you can change it to. I don't have a camry, so I dunno how but it should be right there with the other audio settings.

      Well I was able to disable it in the settings. Now I don't really need it since I had a sound system installed. It sounds 5x better than my stock speakers and setup. Kept the head unit (kind of have to), installed a DSP, 5 channel amplifier replacing all the speakers with focal integration speakers and installed a shallow mount subwoofer and box in the trunk. Can't even tell it has a sound system unless you open the trunk and see the sub on the right side (in the area of the wheel wells. The DSP makes a huge difference. Allows me to adjust the sound accordingly. I am very happy with how it turned out. I have the original speakers...the magnets are very small. The front mid woofers from factory are actually some kind of glass poly, but the front dash speaker is a paper cone speaker. Same for rear door speakers, paper cone. This is for regular typical sound system btw, not the JBL. By the way, all the Camry's do have a hole in the rear deck for a subwoofer. I measured it to be about 8" or so.

    My 2016 with "JBL Premium sound" is rather lame. There is nowhere near enough sound from the rear. There are 2 tweeters in the back and a sub on the drivers side rear. The passenger side rear has a cutout for a speaker with a plastic filler panel in it. Anybody know if there's a wire harness in place for that passenger side rear or would you have to run wires to it? Pretty sad I have about 300 dollars in an old beater truck stereo that sounds way better than this thing.

    The JBL system in my 2016 Toyota Camry XSE V6 was nothing compared to the Bose system in my 2017 Nissan Maxima Platinum. The JBL system in the Camry just doesn't sound loud enough. I have owned three Camry models, and in the two previous models (2014 and 2016), I have been disappointed with the stereo and leather seats (uncomfortable). The system in my 2006 Camry, however, was different...I was very impressed with it and it was just a base level LE! I may yet go back to Toyota if they make their seats a little more comfortable, similar to what Nissan has done with their zero-gravity seats, and they put a little more "oomph" into their stereos and make them sound louder!

    The system in a standard sedan like a Camry is never going to be good or great- just okay. Make sure you get the sound package if you want it to be "okay." If you guys are actually wanting a premium, HiFi sound in your car from the factory, you'll have to buy something like a BMW 3 series. If you're not willing to shell out the cash for one or a used one, don't expect to be bumping in your camry- but don't make the mistake of not getting the sound package or you'll be really sorry!

    • @joemunzer
      @joemunzer 6 років тому +1

      You can not replace the head unit. You need to get a DSP such as a JL Audio Fix-86....It will give you a flat signal...and you can send that to aftermarket amps and speakers.....this is what I plan on doing when I get a Camry later in the year...I already have speakers/sub & amps that I have been taking from car to car for YEARS!!....They sound AWESOME!!....Good luck!

    • @TheNondiscriminatory
      @TheNondiscriminatory 6 років тому +1

      Bake Master would never sound as good, especially without a DSP or at least a custom tuning where the shop uses their own DSP to custom to the sound perfectly to your car, as BMW has done. (or Lexus with their mark Levinson, etc). Let me reiterate: no aftermarket system will come close to the factory system of luxury cars, unless you pay a solid 600-700$ for custom sound work using an analyzer and a DSP.

    • @joemunzer
      @joemunzer 6 років тому +1

      Andrew Davison I could not disagree more....it is much more difficult today to replace original stereos....but the aftermarket system will ALWAYS sound better when done properly...It's just getting more complicated.....& costlier....unfortunately....

    The 2018 and up Camry JBL systems SUCK!!! My 2010 Nissan Bose system was much better. JBL lost so much money on selling the head unit that had to skimp on the amp and speakers. Then charged Toyota $378 a door speaker. The door speaker and sub woofers are complete JUNK!!! They are literally worth like $5 each. The magnets are the size of a nickle. And the amp is proprietary so cannot just be swapped with any normal amp. You need a $250 switch kit to do this. But if you just go online and find some (low sensitivity) replacement speakers it will sound a lot better.

      mmdragon1964 The high end is so overwhelming, it’s giving me a headache at any volume. I would love to meet the idiots who designed this system. Not audiophiles. No bass at all. First chance I get, I’m getting something else installed.

      Just the main unit without the speakers is relatively cheap. Under $400 on eBay.

    JBL system is not very good an nearly impossible to upgrade, stick with the base system and upgrade an amp and the speakers, mostly the fronts.

    i have a '19 Camry XSE V6 with the JBL setup. it sounds great unless you play a bass-heavy song. i thought my speaker was blown out bc it makes this weird whiny/buzzing noise with certain types of bass hits (like a blown out speaker) regardless of volume. i brought to the toyota dealer since i bought the car new the week prior. the service guy tells me that toyota doesnt have great speakers so i said "no, i got the jbl set-up" to which he replied, "yeah they still just use toyota speakers tho". They still checked and tested everything and as it turns out the speakers have no damage, they just suck. i felt so tricked and betrayed. shame on you toyota

      Matty Luca I sometimes hear that certain noise in certain EDM songs I play.
      But I don’t know if I should get it checked out. Most other songs play fine

      What nobody realizes is how super strict youtube is with copyright stuff. If even 1 second of your video has recognized copyright music in it even if it was some kind of background noise, they will mute the entire video
