Wicked Reopens on Broadway: Watch Glinda's Iconic First Line

- It's good to see her, isn't it? Wicked reopened on Broadway on September 14 and, as expected, the crowd went wild. Before the show started, original leading lady Kristin Chenoweth came out to make a welcoming speech, and during the opening number, "No One Mourns the Wicked," Glinda's first line, "It's good to see me, isn't it?" deservedly stopped the show. Here's what you missed if you weren't there.
I was in this audience and let me tell you, that applause happened for every well known line and song in the show. It was so powerful I will never forget it
What was it like to see Kristen :) love her this was my first Broadway show I have autism I’m high functioning
@@alexandraalexfischer omg is was so amazing! I didn’t know she was gonna be there, so when she came out I was literally crying it was amazing!
Fingers crossed there’s footage. I knew Defying Gravity went CRAZY!
Wow what a magical experience! A story to tell the next generation for sure.
@@brianabanana1087 oh my god yeah! Everyone was literally standing for almost the entire song it was electric. Me and like everyone in my section was sobbing.
You can just tell EVERYONE is so excited to be back. The actors the crowd, Broadway is BACK!
I was there! It was so exciting and overwhelming. And everyone was so happy. Oh yeah, Broadway is back!
I'll be at the first opening night in my city next month and im not even bothering to put on makeup. I'll be crying the moment I see the theater doors
I never been to NYC before. But it's a dream of mine
Ben Platt was on The View today, and he said it was the most amazing theater experience he'd ever witnessed. Probably the longest run time for Wicked because there were so many long breakouts of thunderous applause.
This made me cry... Wicked means a lot to me, and seeing how this talented artists are finally being able to perform again is simply amazing.
Means to me since it me a musical theatre geek
Same I have watched this and the Hadestown reopening several times and wept. I have been so depressed having no theatre. It’s my escape.
Same here I might have cried......maybey....
This line has never been more appropriate!!!!! Yes!! It’s good to see you!!!
I saw Wicked 15 years ago when it first came to broadway -and I was lucky enough to see the show with the original broadway cast including Idina and Kristin and it was just AMAZING. Happy Broadway is back
Wicked came to broadway 18 years ago I’m pretty sure
Ditto
I so envy you!! Love the original casts and crew!
@@mezza001 ya. I remember crying the entire second act. Ha
@@mezza001 Me too. Wicked was my first cast album
I’ve been waiting a year and a half to hear her say that line. So glad it’s on video ❤️
I see what you mean. So good.
The quality of this video was PERFECT
SO crispy I’m in awe
Now THAT'S how you make an entrance. Welcome back Broadway!!!
I miss theatre SO much! I'm sitting here holding back tears. I can just feel the energy in that room. After being away for so long, I can only imagine what the curtain call must've felt like.
The last musical i saw was Anastasia
@@manuelorozco7760 The last ones I saw was Hadestown & Beetlejuice.
@@steviehills4256 Never seen them
Ginna Claire Mason, the current Glinda, did a virtual workshop for my college theater department a year ago and when asked what she was most looking forward to, she said this. Saying "It's good to see me, isn't it!" She knew it would bring the house down.
It sure did! We were weeping with joy!!
She taught an audition masterclass at my Civic theater when she was in town on tour, too! Such a lovely woman. As part of the class we got tickets to see the show, and she told us that when she came out on stage and said the line, we should all shout super loud so she'd know where we were sitting 😊
@@Nargon46 But everyone cheers at that line... or is there some special code word/sound to set you apart?
@@charlieinfinite9434 Nope! She just told us to scream as loud as we could and also wave our arms 😆
It did a lot and think with Phantom, Christine singing Think of Me might do the same
I was introduced to Wicked in 9th grade (2007) when we performed One Short Day in choir. I spent the following several months obsessing over the soundtrack. My mom was able to take me to see it- my first show on Broadway- in 10th grade (2008) for my 16th birthday, and it was breathtaking! Here I am in 2021, 13 years later, and I can still fit into the shirt I got that day! Watching this performance, even in its brevity, I got chills. "Fellow Ozians...Let us be glad, let us be grateful, let us rejoicify that" BROADWAY IS BACK!!!
I saw Wicked in 7th grade in 2007
I'm your age! I was introduced to Wicked in 7th grade (2005) when we performed For Good in choir (ours was in memory of a teacher who passed away). After listening to the soundtrack for years, I talked my dad into bringing me to a touring production- my first professional live theater experience- and got to bond with him over falling in love with it. Isn't it a treat to be able to mark the years and relationships in our lives with incredible musical theater like this?
A story I find myself telling rather often is why this made me cry. I graduated highschool in 2020. in my highschool choir during our final concert the seniors all get sent off by singing For Good. We never had a final concert to be able to do that. Seeing so many people happy for the return of ALL broadway shows, not just Wiked or Hamilton or The Lion King fills my heart with joy as an actor because it's moments like these that us as performers L I V E for. Being able to bring joy into someones life that may need it is our job and it's what we love to do.
I remember having For Good sung at my middle school graduation. 13 years ago
This show genuinely brought light back to my life. nothing makes me happier to her glinda say that line
What a sad and pathetic statement that is about you.
@@MondoMiami what a sad and pathetic statement that is about you and how you treat strangers on the internet.
Tears are flowing big time! Already booked my trip to NYC in November… it’s been almost two long years since I’ve heard a professional singer live!!!
my next door neighbor is in Manhattan now!!
I was at the performance the following night, and the response was just as rapturous. It really is good to see her. It’s good to see all of them.
"Something about this night
That I just can't ignore,
All the sweat and tears and more,
Have made this all worth fighting for."
-Finding Neverland
BROADWAY IS BACK! I cried happy tears listening to the opening music and seeing the actors dance and sing. The joy on their faces is infectious! I can't wait until I can get back to NYC to see a show!!
This morning I knew I could find some video from last night's performance. Jut like I did in the theater (all the many times I have seen Wicked on Broadway.). the spectacular Opening of this show made me weep.
The spirit, enthusiasm and pure joy of the audience has me in tears this morning. Happy tears, to be sure. 💕 I am so grateful to whoever shot this video so that a woman living alone in a remote spot in the Colorado mountains can also enjoy this magical moment on Broadway. Love to you all. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💕
Just randomly watched it again-got my crying. Sometimes you see a moment of human interaction no matter how big or small, and it just makes you love to be human. Thank you humans for loving one another and keeping broadway a safe space for love and compassion.
Unsure where the dislikes came from. I mean, the hair on the back of my neck stood right up!!!! Amazing.
Uhhhh, because it sucks?
I saw this musical 11 years with my mom and dad and just happened to get great seats in the center about half way up. I’m so happy to see that Broadway is back
I have not seen Wicked in 14 years
I’m legit tearing up. I missed Broadway so much 💜💜
You need help.
Lol why is this necessary
I will be there Oct. 9th. My 1st Broadway show and 1st time in NYC! I can not wait!!!!!😬😬😬
Break a leg!
You'll fall in Love ❤
Wicked was the first musical I ever fell in love with and is the one that started me on musicals, living in England I couldn't come watch, and being 15 I can't book my own tickets for West End yet anyways (trust me I BEGGED my mum to let me have the first show off school but I wasn't allowed). This show will always be close to my heart and I'm so happy to see everything opening up again.
Wicked was the first musical i enjoyed too! I was 14 and i'm overdue to revisit this beautiful show
This just made my night, it brought the biggest smile to my face and for a moment I was back in NYC, watching this incredible show, once again. And it's true, there's no place like home, but home is not the place you were born or the place you live in, home is the place you belong.
O I wish Broadway would provide a virtual option
Virtual just doesn't cut it for Wicked. If you you haven't seen this show show on broadway at the Gershwin Theatre you haven't seen it. Just thrilled that broadway is lit up again!
@@vsibirsky A lot of people don’t have the money to travel to NYC to see it live
The projections were amazing to see live. There's really some elements that cannot be captured by a camera.
@@lemuelermita3456 I have also seen the show in touring companies and it is still a delight but seeing it at the iconic Gershwin Theatre is just very special.
With so many smaller and less prestigious theatres doing virtual showings and selling time-limited tickets for their shows (live or pre-recorded), you'd think Broadway would do it too, it's so disappointing they won't :c I understand when some say this isn't the same as live theatre, obviously not, but as a theatre student this was how we managed during the last 1.5 year. It also makes theatre more inclusive - for those who are disabled, live far away or can't afford a full ticked.
They are on POINT!! WOW
The energy is incredible! I’ve got such chills and can’t stop crying! I can’t wait to book my tickets again!
It’s been a month. When did you finally stop crying?
I knew the first line well. Knew when it would be said. Still got choked up and grinned like an idiot when I heard it. Chills. Welcome back, Broadway. 🎭
Key word: idiot.
I've never even seen Wicked and I'm in tears!
Me either, and me too.
Its so beautiful in terms of music, story and staging
I haven’t seen this show in 6 years, but those opening notes… that got me crying before Glinda’s line, which is of course iconic
I have not seen in 14 years. I am way overdue
@@manuelorozco7760 13 years for me. 2009 with Stephanie J block Standby for Donna Vivino as Elphaba, I wanted to see Eden Espinosa though
@@lukepevensie I saw Eden
they keep trying to make a move when all i want is a pro shot
This is the quality we all want for our slime tutorials. 😂
Well, cameras have improved for sure in the past few years so here’s hoping :)
I cannot stop watching this and tearing up.
i think the cameraman thought she'll be in a bubble up! Wicked is love!
Let me say this. I was in this audience, I have been visiting Broadway since Miss Chenoweth and Miss Menzel were on stage in this show. It has grown. It has formed a following, and it is so essential in my life. SO essential. The story is crucial, and the care taken with the cast, crew, and house organizers is key. I am more than proud to be a lifetime fan. That night was electric. I hope there will be many more just like it.
I love this! I really hope I can go see Wicked on Broadway one day.
This warms my broadway-loving heart. All the feels
I'm crying so many tears of joy and happiness! Broadway coming back brings so much hope to this lil community theatre actress' heart!
Seriously I’m crying of joy.. thank god for the theater community and god bless them all
I’m not sure when I can fly to NYC again, but I hope I finally get to watch Wicked when I do!!!!!
I never been
As a aspiring actor myself I am beyond excited to see this show come back. This moment is for everyone in the Gershwin theater, I couldn't be prouder for all of you involved.
Welcome back Broadway!!
Thinking Phantom will have similar and even more of a electric response as well, love both shows and their both iconic of Broadway
Can we just talk about that QUICK CHANGE FROM THE DRESS TO G(A)LINDA?!?!
What a fantastic show. I had such a good time.
You misspelled “shit show”
Saw it last night and it was incredible
I’m so happy that this show is back
that first line by glinda, just got a whole new meaning
This was so beautiful to watch 🥺 I was one week old when Wicked opened on Broadway. I remember going to kindergarten with pamphlets about Wicked, singing Popular in the car, and just hoping that I would one day see Wicked on Broadway. This show is so special to me and will forever be special to me, even 18 years later 💚💖
I am FINALLY, going to watch a Broadway show this weekend and I am SO EXCITED TO WATCH WICKED
I hope to be on Broadway someday maybe that day is close at hand
This whole video made me absolutely giddy. I've watched so many *green girl slime tutorials* and I've never seen this much energy on stage. I love to see it.
Welcome Back To Broadway Wicked
This needs to be a live stream! For streaming services!
She's a great big supernova of talent & love of theater.

I'm not crying. You're crying
There back
Not me crying in my kitchen in 2024 😂
I’m pretty sure no one in the audience heard the guy who said “Look it’s Glinda!” Because they were too busy applauding!
Love it! But I thought you're not allowed to record in the theatre.. lol
At last.
OMG OMG OMG amazing
In Charlotte we clapped and yelled too lol
