- Usually we wait ‘til the end of the review to make our proclamation, but Magura’s MT7 Pro brakes aren’t usual. These 4-piston stoppers pack a serious punch in a uniquely German-looking package. Features, technologies, unique materials, blah, blah, blah - rather than spout off a million things that probably don’t matter, we’ll keep in tune with Magura’s bare bones website and just point out the key factors of what we do and don’t like about these brakes.

I used to run HS33 back in the day, recently had MAGURA LOUISE, now got my Trails, these brakes have a great heritage I cannot fault.

how do you adjust brake power point ?. magura mt7 have one bolt that goes "trough" the brake but i dont see any difference when turning it left or right..
I'd like to know what type I should use for my Delfast which is 162lbs. I'm thinking maybe the MT7s but need the regenerative brake system to exist.
Have ypu measured actual weight? Caliper+lever+hose?

you can flip the BAT adjuster to the top. Has this 90degree washer and a is spring loaded.
Are this the same front and rear ?
Best way to discover full mt7 potential is actually to use XTR 9020 or 9120 brake levers.
My Shigura setup mt7 calipers + xtr 9120 levers = the best brakes!
What about saint levers?
@@or-ian6973 if those servo wave little things are made of plastic, like in xt and lover tier levers, then don't. If those servo wave thing made of metall, like in xtr levers, then yes, it would be equal.
Do these brakes have a free stroke adjustment
Never had issues with the carbotecture. Magura’s brake have been the best brakes I’ve ridden. I wouldn’t buy any other brand. They are that good.

@@Nosaracasalaplaya Shimano, SRAM, TRP. It's like many of the reviews say, as powerful as the Shimano Saint with almost the same modulation of SRAM Code. Almost because I still think the modulation of SRAM brakes are the best. The only thing I don't like of Magura is that the brake pads don't last too long, they run very close the disc brakes and can be a little bit noisy. Something very important, I ruinned some while using Muc off brake cleaner.

They dont mention it In their manuals - if you push back your Brake pistons without losening the bleed plug on the Lever, you're going to destroy your lever for good. Or to be exact the membrane in the giver. No refunds. I'm actually angry because it's so expensive and no word in their manuals or video guides. In the bleeding process it's mentioned but it should be a BIG WARNING sign everywhere. A friend of mine had this happen during bleeding and i just changed brake pads and now it's toast. What the f, honestly. Best brakes, but this is a huge screw over.
I heat shrunk the end of my cable to shrink it a little and it worked fyi.....
Did you have Problems with noise from the Rotors? Heard a lot of conplains that they Sound make tingeling noises
I slightly contaminated my pads and now they make what my friends described with "it sounds like a wet fart wtf" 😂
I actually love that sound
Apparently the mdrp rotor is quieter and the aero rotor from intend are a good option too

I own a pair of mt8 racelines, they are so noisy when the trail gets rocky, it produces a rattling sound, I just found out it’s because of the brake pads, I guess it need springs like Shimano and sram have with their brake pads

I like a softer front brake and an aggressive rear brake. I run SRAM Guide. Do you guys offer a soft organic opinion pad for front and a full matalic aggressive pad for the rear.
Magura offers four different pads. The "S" named are e-bike ready and they are more aggressively oriented, so more metal parts in them but still organic. I've already tried the basic which comes with the brakes and they are garbage, and performance, which are way better, soon I'll test the race version and will see if there's a differet
Sram guide rotors compatible with this brake?
Yes they are. Running the MT7 with my Avid Centerline 180mm rotors. No problems as the they come in 1.8mm thickness, which is the min. in the Magura manual for a disc.
I run shimano rt66 203 and 180 with no big issues. Not to say when I had new magura storms and new perf pads these thing wouldnt stop a truck.
How do these compare in terms of power to the SRAM Code RSC?
Michael Thompson the rsc has an average bite Force of 70,6nm the mt 7 has 99,3nm
@@Max-ig2cz also the mt7 has some of teh fastest deceleration times on earth (other then maxima from trickstuff) i had srams but i got horrendous arm pump from not being able to slow down when i wanted too...
They don't sram is garbage, plus dot fluid doesn't last long, so you need to bleed them often. I switched to mt7, these brakes are on different level, plus much less maintenance and bleeding.

When you order them from magura do you get front and rear or just one brake?
gus hollen you need to find one that says set i would recommend a website called r2-bike you can get the set for a bit over 300€

Are they coming with brake pads from this site?
How difficult is it to align the calipers with the rotors without them rubbing? It’s a pet peeve of mine and something that I’ve read about in other reviews of this brake but sometimes I wonder if it’s just a bad mechanic setting them up...
If you do it right it's fine, if you really want to you can pull out the drill and tap a grub screw into the side to make it easier to align...
Do the maguras feel more like sram or shimano?
That's a tough one... It's actually been a little while since we've ridden them but they sort of have a level feel that is unique but the power felt at the pads/rotors is more on par with Shimano. When they hit, you know it.
Do you have to use the 2mm thick rotors?
No, I use Galfer 1.8mm rotors and they’re an amazing combo.
Do you have to use the magura rotors?
No but a 2mm thick disc
@@lakaldrak I'm using standard Shimano 1.8mm rotors on my downhill bike & my MT5s work amazingly on our steep trails. (MT5s use the same caliper as MT7 but a cheaper lever).
These are the best brakes ever.

@@Nosaracasalaplaya hey there! So shimano deore XT's, and sram level T's. Both are 2 piston so not apples to apples For a fair comparison. But the grip and modulation is unparalleled IMO. What I really love is the that they give your fingers so much room. The one finger lever is really effective as well. That's coming from a guy with medium hands.
That lever has too much travel imo
That master cylinder is made of plastic. Mine stripped out trying to put the hose back in. Magura should be ashamed putting metal to plastic like that.

Look at the brake lever when he pulls the lever. It sinks almost all the way to his fingers. If he pulled a little harder I bet he could make the lever pull down to his fingers and hit them. This is very bad. I just returned my brand new Magura brakes because the lever pulls all the way almost to the bar, hitting my fingers.
This video proves it for me. They make brakes with levers that get in the way.
How can any real rider use these? I sure as hell can’t. The levers hit my knuckles.
yeah screw that bleeder port. I have had to replace the damn thing like 3 times. frickin touchy
It's meant to be torqued to 0.5 nm

Magura’s are a nightmare. I’ve bled mt7 6 times in a year. All manufacturers are going towards light weights. Bro I don’t mind lightweight but I’d like to know I can stop when my brakes are hot.
They use royal blood which boils at 200ish degrees. That’s a 15 minute descent and they are boiled over.
If you weight over 150lbs and ride hard.
Get something with DOT oil. Or go for hopes.
Man, just use Shimano mineral oil. Twice as boiling point and compatible. Just drain Royal Blood first.
