This was probably one of the best image campaigns NBC ever had. It was a memorable season as the Summer Olympics started the Fall season. The daytime and nighttime lineups were stacked with great programs! But that spring also brought transition for NBC...It was the final seasons for Family Ties and Miami Vice. 4 of the 6 game shows on their daytime lineup would be gone by September. One of them being the legendary Wheel of Fortune would move to CBS. And sports wise, that Spring would be the start of the final season of NBC’s baseball coverage and The Game of the Week. The pilot for what would be NBC’s top program of the 90s Seinfeld would end this season in July.
This season was the first year for NBC since 1978-79 to not carry shows set in the Diff'rent Strokes or Facts of Life Universe, Originally there were plans for a spinoff featuring Lisa Whelchel as Blair Warner focusing on the decision She made in using her trust fund to purchase the financially troubled Eastland Academy, and She became headmistress of the School, and opened enrollment to male students for the first time in Eastland history, Unfortantly, It never got picked up.
I still remember that last episode of *Family Ties.* Gary David Goldberg promised there would be no reunions and no reboots, and so far he has remained true to his word.
The only time a single broadcast network won EVERY week in the ratings for an entire season. An ENTIRE season.

Blair gave up a law career to save the school, and Lisa Whelchel gave up an acting career to be a wife and mother.

Channel 7 Australia used the theme music in 1989
I used to listen to this song years ago.
And 7 years later, the network that would stomp Tribune's non-Warner Bros.ish crap The WB in the ratings 11 years in a row, was born - UPN!
1 Year Of $ale Of The Century, Classic Concentration,
