Have to second this. Watching some of the matches, after getting to know characters on both sides of the net, made it impossible to cheer for just one side or want one team to lose.
_Concreto shushin. Hinata Shouyo desu. Anata wo butaoshitte zenkoku e iki masu._ I've seen that scene so many times that I have the whole line memorised. Words cannot describe how invigorating it felt to repeat them with Hinata in season 3.
I mean Miya Asumu (Asamu? Whichever) and Ushiwaka too I guess fulfill that role pretty well (SPOILERS) until the last arc where we love everyone involved and who fucking knows who were meant to be cheering for because I want them all to win but they can’t and... anyway it’s a good show
Derpy Mule uh, idk about you but I actually love Ushijima and yes, Miya Atsumu is kind of an ass but I don’t hate him at all. There aren’t any antagonists in this show, only rivals.
We adopt everyone. Period. No one, except yamaguchi and tendou’s bullies, is left behind. You see that libero on Wakutani? There’s probably a fan club just for him, including libero nation.
I konw right it is just wholesome hiw they cheer each other up and watching the relationships between the characters ...they are just all so wholesome and haikyuu is really exciting to
If you want the best cheer then look no further then one of the best OPs the series has OH YEAH!!! (I know it's not a team cheer but it's so fun to yell that I don't even care)
Haikyuu is really realistic. They have their losses. Unlike most anime where the mc is super op and wins everytime. Haikyuu shows that you have to work hard and that even if you do try your hardest, you wont always win. Haikyuu also builds up the tension in a nice way. You get to know the characters really well too. Most importantly, the characters are to soooo hot.
Spoilers!! When the boys lost the big Aoba Johsai match, I was shocked. I knew, fundamentally, they didn’t have the skill to beat them yet, but you always expect the ‘good guys’ to come out on top. It was such a crushing loss, and so unexpected, but the show wouldn’t have had as much punch any other way - the joy I felt when they finally defeated Oikawa and his team wouldn’t have been the same without being prefaced by the soul crushing defeat before it
@@beccaroonie2946 I was like, karasuno is a protagonists team, they can win easily against aoba, when karasuno lost the match, I was feeling really sad. When next time the faced aoba, and they won, it was one of the greatest feeling
Most protags are underdogs, tbh. It’s just like: Powerless supportive kinda badass protagonist and who won’t give up! And then they get more powerful, cuz they have this one goal. These protagonist are like, Hinata, Ash, Asta, Deku and many more! I protags that could be a easily just be side characters, but have this one thing that still makes them protagonists Kinda like in jojo’s, they connect, cuz of their bloodline and personalities, but it could have been like Kakyoin was a jojo and Jotaro was just a side character, that could have worked easily But I just can’t like haikyuu?!
And it isn’t that realistic, when they actually play it kinda ain’t things just happen like zap ziu pau and a point, but in anime the watchers have to process the hat is going on so they have to slow down it and add unrealistic stuff
I'm not lying when I say Haikyuu definitely has some of the *best* characterization, character growth, and story development. Haruichi Furudate is a genius, and they took to their story with a passion you can feel through each page flip, and through the screen. You will fall in love with almost every character you're introduced to. They aren't just people you're going to forget about, they're people who'll stick with you for a long time, and inspire you at every turn. You will feel invigorated when Karasuno wins, but you'll also feel a little melancholic knowing that the other team has to go home, and some of them for the last time. You get training arcs where change is encouraged, and then it's taken by the back of the shirt and whipped in your face. You had a character you didn't like? Well, now you do. For the story, where most have plot holes and things that were never expanded upon, there's closure in everything. And it's satisfying. Things aren't left open ended, but instead they come full circle, and they hit you home. It's the workings of someone who knew what they were starting, and took it in stride. It's incredible. You fall in love with the sport, and you feel the need to go and get a group of people to laugh and play with, and feel just as these Highschoolers did when you watched them. I love this show, the manga, this story. I love everything about it, and it's most definitely changed my life.
@@toraozawa3656 i dont think so like okay you may not like the animation style, but the story is exactly the same and the characterization is still as good as it was before
"Our match against Date Tech was like a first sip of beer. That first sip of beer is incredibly special." "Ukai-kun, remember you're talking to minors here" my favorite joke from the show
If I had to point out one thing about Haikyuu, it would be: Everyone is humanized. Everyone, be it the opposite team, coaches or even the exposition stand-ins, they all get these little funny moments or relatable traits to make them memorable and feel like real people. It could have been so easy to solely focus on Karasuno's characters (which would have made for a perfectly good series), but it doesn't. It goes way beyond that and it's delightful. Haikyuu is a delight and it always manages to put a smile on my face.
In fact I really don't like Ushijima, cause he's the less humanized character, even if he's not a side character. They portrayed him too much as the typical "final boss"...Actually, I think in general Shiratorizawa has the poorest character investigation (with the exception of Tendou), considering that they appear in an entire season...
Francesca Alberici i think the manga does a much better job humanizing ushijima and shiratorizawa than the anime did. the anime cut out quite a few shiratorizawa-centric scenes probably due to either budget or time constraints. ushijima is also just a big dumb loser who just really loves volleyball a lot and is bad at reading the atmosphere, just like kageyama!
That’s so true! Bc I can’t pick a favorite team I love all of them! Every single character even characters I don’t/forget the name of... they are all beautiful and I wanna protect them all 😭💜😅
i don't like sports, and that's why haikyuu never interests me because why watch a show on volleyball when i don't even know anything about volleyball neither plan to know?? but i have never regretted watching haikyuu, i honestly watched it because there were so much hype so i just wanted to see what's so great about it. best decision ever.
Same,i feel like alot of ppl think that way before watching haikyuu "it's just volleyball, whats so interesting about it" my friends werent that interested aswell but when i finally convinced them they became just as attached
Exactly, I've *never* been interested in anything that has to do with sports, so I never expected myself to fall in love with a sports anime. But after watching it, I understand why so many kinds of people like it so much, it's not only a show about volleyball, it's a show about *life* .
Same I'm not into sports at all but haikyuu still makes me interested in it, it also educate me about volleyball even if I don't play it. Honestly I just waitch it because it was on tv and I have nothing to do, yet here we are
Same i felt that way too now im obsessed with haikyuu and im trying to get my best friend to watch it when she’s just saying, “its just abt volleyball why watch it?” :(
My friend actually recommended haikyuu to me like months before I decided to watch it, but I told her that I wasn't interested because I'm not into sports and I regretted so much that I didn't watch it immediately because when I did, it captivated me so much to the point where I would rewatch it several times and I even made an anitwt bc of it. Haikyuu is such a wonderful show with beautifully written characters.
In every other anime: You hate or not like the people protagonist goes against. In Haikyuu: You end up loveing literally every character, no matter what team.
@@lucab5162 this month i read it yes, didn't expect such a turnaround by him, but it's a great lesson, don't let yourself judge someone by how they were when you first saw them, you have to change your stance if you see improvement
Every other sports story: The main team is the most strategic, most talented, they never lose....the opposite team sabotage them but the main team still end up winning Haikyuu: Every team is talented, strategic and strong in their own ways. Every team has their loses and wins. No sabotaging......just talented people with the burning desire to play the game till the end This speaks for itself ✊. The only unrealistic thing about Haikyuu is how incredibly attractive every character is lol
The Soundtrack is God tier also. There is not a single bad OP and ED. The music in the episodes is amazing too. Especially when Tsukishima blocks ushiwaka.
That scene is incredibly powerful. He is always reserved and when he blocks him shows real emotion for the first time blending in the flashback from the Tokyo training....damn so hype
Yeah I think the OST doesn't get talked about nearly enough. Hayashi and Tachibana are absolute masterminds when it comes to the art of balancing extremely hype mixes with the slower and more reflective tones. If we take into account every factor that makes this anime good: animation, characters, music, story etc. I wholeheartedly believe that the music is the biggest contributor to what makes this show so utterly fantastic. That's my opinion though, other people might not care about the music nearly as much as I do :P
@@wildflame1018 if you are a beginner you don't care a lot about the music, but for expert weebs like us it's an important factor. And goddamn, i love Hayashi and Sawano.
To be fair, 99 percent of the Haikyuu cast are massive idiots, with the exception of Sachiro (the wavy perm dude who is friends with seagull dude). Was tempted to exclude Akaashi from being an idiot but he unironically respects Bokuto so
haikyuu is one of those animes that genuinely makes me feel horrible when a team loses. just seeing how hard that team worked and how they have their own dreams, hopes and desires that they worked so hard for makes it impossible to just want one team to win.
no matter how hard you work you do need some talent whether that's physical like ushiwaka or kageyama or mental like Oikawa they have talent. his talent is his ability to make those around him better and his communication skills
The things I like about Haikyuu : 1. No powers, just pure real life abilities. The reason why Slam Dunk is the only acceptable Sports Anime for me is because its true to life. 2. Each characters are thought out. You can do a deep character analyzation of each character. I am not exaggerating. You can do all of them. 3. The animation is insane. Though the last season is not the same its still good. 4. The character development is amazing too. The way that they do it all at once. Watching those makes you cry or rejoice with the characters. 5. The moments that the characters shine they shine brighter than the sun. Haikyuu is in my top 5 animes and its the only anime that made me read the manga since I cant wait for them to release the animated one.
yeah. u r right. even though it is Anime people often like to look things which are more possible in actual life. which makes it more relatable in everyone's life.
The number 2 is soo true. Like even if they show only a few minutes about the character's background or stories etc., we can still write like 10 pages of essays about them... or maybe even more!
I just really really love Yamaguchi. He's more quiet and anxious and lacks the natural talent that drives many of the others. But that makes him even better because that makes his achievements even more his. HE's not flashy or wild but he shares the same conviction to be better and win. And honestly that's the kind of character i needed when the first season aired. Someone i could relate to in a way i couldn't with the loud and naturally talanted charactes. And i love them for creating it.
Daichi is my absolute favorite member in karasuno, but i have soft spot for yamaguchi. i remember i cried when he FINALLY perfectly served the ball. he OWNS it.
He’s not even wrong about Haikyuu inspiring people. After watching the first two seasons of Haikyuu, I was encouraged to work out. And from there I was encouraged to do other things like cooking, and really challenging my creativity. I love this show and it honestly does inspire me to be better for my mental health and physical health
When my boi thukishima screamed after blocking that moment alone make this anime legendary for me ...till then it was a great anime but at that moment witnessing one of the best anime character development ever Haikyuu became one of the best anime i have ever seen ..ironically that moment was also THE moment thuki got hooked into volleyball like bokuto said what a masterpiece
pros of loving haikyuu: you love every character and team cons of loving haikyuu: you love *every* character and team we see the opponents goals, and hopes and dreams. we see them crying when they lose, and their practices, their motivations. haikyuu’s also very realistic, no powers, just real life abilities. the main team also has their losses, unlike other animes where the main characters always win.
"Talent is something you make bloom, Instinct is something you polish" -Oikawa This line purely inspired me to do great things in volleyball and not succumb to those who are way more talented than me. Train hard
Talent is almost always an extremely tiny factor to people's skill level. But there is a lot of people that are working very hard and pretending they don't because they think it makes them look cool. But if you know the truth it just makes them look like assholes. Work hard and you'll get there too.
@@MrSkme I agree and disagree. As Haikyu!! proves, talent can make people naturally better than you by a wide margin, but if they solely rely on that talent and do nothing with it, then they will never succeed fully. Kageyama was like that in the first season, he wasn't applying his talents where they needed to be and he fell to Oikawa in their re-match. But when he learned what he needed to do (ironically from Oikawa himself) his team and him managed to defeat Aoba Josai once and for all.
I don't cry during shows/movies/books because I'm a monster, but watching Haikyuu makes me WISH I did because I get so emotional but I wanna EXPRESS EMOTIONS with them LMAOOOO
I have been avoiding watching Haikyu for a long time for no reason at all but then I started watching it 4 days ago out of boredom. And now, I not only caught up with the show, but I also managed to finish reading the manga (I picked up on the chapter where season 4 anime ends). I always sucked at sports, even volleyball but the show really makes you wanna do better and try harder. I don’t even have enough words to say how much I love all the characters and the story. The ending is so perfect and so grounded in reality. It’s so rare to find a sports manga written so realistically and still drive you to “fly higher”! Seriously, thank you Haikyuu.
@@luciacaterina4130 not at all, I always say support the manga and buy the official copies but it’s hard times at the moment. Search readhaikyuu on google. XD That’s where I read the whole manga!
I can't pick a favorite team, they're all my children. However Nishinoya is def my fav character, that double save in the Shiratorizawa match had me out of my chair SO FAST
That and Tsukki’s kill block on ushijima’s spike, that one was amazing i was basicallly standing up while yelling OHHH MYYY GOOODDDD Fave character (excluding hinata and kageyama) is probably daichi tbh
Catalin Armand my bad.i just started the manga and in two days I’m on the karusono vs kamemodai match. I didn’t think I’d like the manga because the anime is insane and sports manga seemed weird to me. I soon overcame it and now I love it. I can’t wait for it to be animated. Do you think season4 part 2 will have the kamemodai match or will that be a separate season?
"I may have created a monster" -The Little Giant/Small Giant/Little big ace/my most favorite and attractive character even if he just appeared for a couple of chapters
You talked about it a little bit, but for me one of Haikyuu’s best parts is how is exemplifies what ‘Boys will be boys’ should be. No player lets another get away with being an asshole. They will call each other out all the time, but they’ll be emotionally supportive. My favorite team is Shiratorizowa, because they’re all deliquents in the best way and my favorite player is actual dad, Daichi Sawamura
@@sophial7261 do you mean in a negative or positive sense? I dont necessarily like the phrase boys will be boys but it was the best in the moment of what I could think of
Haikyuu is just the kind of series that will leave you feeling hopeful, happy and energized. It'll take you on an emotional rollercoaster, but once you get off you'll find yourself with a different kind of appreciation and love for the world
There are few anime that got me as excited as this one. I could feel my heart pounding out of my chest, and I couldn't breathe. I was hopping up and down in my seat in almost every moment of every match. This show made me laugh, almost cry and cheer like there was no tomorrow. Also, it helps that entire cast is the most lovable bunch of dorks I've ever seen.
I'm so happy I gave a haikyuu ago. I was not disappointed. This is the only anime I've watched that just inspired me to exercise and study every day. This is one anime I will watch over and over again
I cannot physically watch Haikyuu in a room with other people I literally cannot. why? Because I scream a lot while I watch the show seeing all these good bois on one screen I’m so inspired to see so many different characters with so many different motivations I can’t help but scream Haikyuu is a ten out of ten I will never get tired of this show
I discovered haikyuu with my friend and she didnt continue watching but I did. I was screaming during the first 10 episodes we watched and she was like,, the hell?
I KNEW this show was pure gold the moment it made me cry. I almost never cry at anime (probably only ever cried at 4 or 5) and it had be crying like a baby while simultaneously cheering my boys on. Also I had a favorite character from EVERY primary school's team. It's rare for me to be emotionally invested in so many characters.
Tsuki's big moment in the Shiratorizawa match mad me leap out of my seat in excitement. Never have I felt like that watching any other piece of media. Even while reading the manga, my heart is often in my throat at the end of a match cliffhanger. Haikyuu just gives you such a rush of adrenaline and motivation while at the same time feeling like you're coming home where its warm and comforting.
When that moment happened I started crying. That’s the first time an anime or any show ever has made me have tears in my eyes, much less cry. I don’t think I can put into words the amount of emotion this show has given me haha.
I love it so much and I gives me such and adrenaline rush that I just have to scream and cheer with the characters when I watch this! ...my family thinks I'm just overreacting tho, but they DON'T UNDERSTAND! Reading these comments, it lets me know that I'm not alone 😊
YOOOO I thought it was just meeeeee I feel sooooo freaken happy and excited when they win or anything in a game. It's crazy but amazing. God bless this anime. It can make my day so much better in just 24 minutes
I totally get this. No matter how many times I reread the manga or rewatch the anime, the feels are literally the same every damn time. Even though I already know what will happen or who wins and loses, the anticipation is still there.
I love the way he says everything in the same tone. He explains both the in-depth characters, relations, and plot design, in the same way, he called Oikawa, "a big dumb loser with a bit of an inflated ego" and it kills me
Those are fighting words. I could say so many things that make Oikawa a great character. Just like I can say so many good things about 80% of the characters we know. It’s so hard to dislike Haikyu characters.
She is probably my favorite or second favorite female from the show but I doubt many people would say she is their absolute favorite character from the whole show. She just didn´t get that much screen time or characterization. So while I love her, there is not much reason to put her as your favorite
I think the most underrated parts about the show are the many memorable and motivational quotes that don't apply to sports alone, the coaches (and players) often give advice about things that can be applied to pretty much anything in life. Haikyuu also shows that defeat isn't a reason to quit, it's a reason to work twice as hard and improve, and I think that's the strength of the story. The lessons it teaches doesn't just apply to volleyball, it applies to everything that takes effort. Like when Nishi says: *"Life's a bore if you don't challenge yourself."* I believe it's a show that pretty much any young person should watch, because it teaches one of the most important lessons of all: great things don't happen without great effort, sure you can get lucky from time to time, but at the end of the day you have to work to get results. I already worked out before starting this show, but man did it make me shoot into overdrive.
I watched one episode. Just one. And suddenly I was attached. I watched one season. Just one. And suddenly I was wanting to learn volleyball. I watched the second season. And suddenly I was watching clips of real volleyball matches and let me say, it is amazing, especially the Japanese ones.
And then you are learning the name of the best players in every position for every national team. And then, when a game is being shown on TV while your dad is jumping through channels you make him stop to watch all of the sets of the game.
Something I love about Haikyuu is that they give so much context and depth to nearly every character. They even gave a mini arc for one of the Karasuno bench players. And I love it. I love learning about the characters and understanding them on a different level.
My favorite character in the series? Toru Oikawa. Oh god, Oikawa. He has a tremendous backstory, and it makes me love him and hate him at the same time. The reason I love him is because overall he knows his weaknesses, and he knows his strengths. When he admits that Kageyama's sets are better than his, he genuinely means it. Though, he makes a plan for the future to not let them score any points by keeping their defense up. Oikawa, is just an overall important character because of the roll he plays. And oh god, his personality. He knows he's good, which is something you kind of get taken aback by. He is seen as someone big- but he has feelings. And you see him struggle because of his past, and he is in general a great leader. He pushes people to their limits, and can get everyone to coordinate on a team, which is something I really love about him. Sorry for the rant
To hell with flattykawa, I would have liked him a lot more if he wasn't such a bitch towards Karasuno. Also, he should have gone to shirtatorisawa (however you spell it) edit: Bruh leave me alone this was 3 months ago, I still don't like him and you can't change my mind. So stoppppppppp
@Withro Anime Edits Sorry, but I just can't like him no matter how hard I try because he reminds me of someone I know and real life and hate. Stop attacking me for not liking a fictional character
@@phoenixchi1332 The thing about that is that he didn't mean to. In the moment he was just so frustrated that he had to develop those skills of serving and setting while Tobio just, had them down in the first place. He trained for years and years just to have some kid randomly show up and suddenly be better than him. Of course he's frustrated, everything crumbled around him. He even apologized immediately after, while Kageyama probably doesn't even remember the incident.
I avoided this show for years because I played volleyball year round from middle school through college and stopped right before season 1 aired, and just didn't want to watch a show about a sport I couldn't really play at a competitive level anymore. I think it was about three or four years after it premiered that I finally caved, and I'm so glad I did. Its really fantastic. Also check out Run With the Wind if you want another show in a similar vein! As a setter, Kageyama's rant in episode 2 or 3 basically hooked me for the rest of the show.
I feel the same way!! It was so hard to have to stop because I couldn't medically play anymore and watching the show was like seeing flashbacks to moments in my life. I was a Libro, defensive specialist, and a severing specialist as I am tiny like Hinata but watching the show was hard. I'm glad someone else understands! My favorite character is *The Great King Oikawa* besides that his character was created to represents the "Hard work does not always beat talent" quote, he also shows that people don't have to give up pursuing their passions and neither that they will always lose to greater talents. Oikawa shows how to accept the limitations and go forward, this tenacity is actually embodied by his first name 'Tooru' (徹) which means 'to pass through, typically with great intent and effort' or 'to do something thoroughly'.
Nishinoya Yu is my favorite Haikyuu character. 1. He's a fellow short person. 2. He's driven and always has his team's back. 3. He's close to Asahi, Tanaka, and Hinata three of my other favorites. 4. He LOVES his position. There's something to be said about someone who loves what they do wholeheartedly and so purely. 5. He's voiced by Bakugou's Japanese VA. An immensely talented man. 6. His English VA is Greg Ayers, a VA I have loved ever since I first got into anime 13 years ago. 7. He's pretty cute. Shallow reason, I know, but hey, I've got eyes and they love looking at him and many, if not all, the other characters in this show (male and female). 8. He's a good boy who jist wants to win with his friends and according to anime law all good boys must be protected and cherished. (ex. Goku, Naruto, Ichigo, Midoriya, etc.) It is literally the law. Thank you to anyone who bothered to get to the bottom and read all this. I am just so passionate when it comes to literally ANYTHING about this masterpiece of a show.
I agree with everything you said!! I also have a 'shallow' reason why he's my fave character but I fell in love with him ever since his first appearance~ I mean it's one of the best (and coolest) introduction of a great character like him!!
@@enbi5440 I know, right?! When I saw him in the opening (before his introduction) I was a little apprehensive, thinking he'd be a jerky rival showcasing all that Hinata should be and could be, that'd he'd be the epitome of the perfect short volleyball player and be a jerk about it. I didn't know how Haikyu!! worked yet. Nishinoya is the epitome of what a volleyball player (not just a short one) should be; but he's also a sweet, funny and loyal teammate who just wants to improve his already God-like skills. He's just so awesome! I'm glad you agree!
The only bad thing about Haikyuu is there are so many characters that I forget some of their names but at the same time that is a good thing too Edit: also it makes you feel like you know so much about volleyball uNTIL YOU DECIDE TO TRY PLAYING
Haikyuu will be the most memorable sports anime you'll ever watch, you won't see a overpower protagonist or antagonist, every single character is realistic and balance, almost every character have character development despite their huge cast. Here's 10% of their development: •Hinata our protagonist, a human tangerine🍊 and decoy of karasuno is short 167cm and counting (in volleyball that's very short) but that doesn't stop him from doing what he loves and became the next little giant, he used to only be good for his quick reflexes and stamina but when time goes by, his gradually getting better at receiving and serving through watching his opponents matches. Though it isn't a drastic improvement. While he was learning, he used to received with his face. •Oikawa, captain of Aoba Johsai. If you pay attention, you'll see him wearing white and black knee pads, the white one is not really a knee pad but a brace or protector, he wore it cause of a previous injury. Oikawa and kageyama was rivals to the core, since they're both setters and oikawa have some bitter history with kageyama. (I'll just let you find that out yourself) •Sugawara, the mom of karasuno and a backup setter. Suga used to be in the staring lineups but then kageyama showed up, suga can clearly see the differences between their sets. Suga sets from experience and bonding with the spikers, while kageyama is a genius setter and can set the ball directly to the spiker's palm. Suga in the name of the team he sacrifice his own spot on the starting lineup since coach Ukai can't choose between the two setters. The sad part is that this was his last year in Karasuno as he was a 3rd year yet he's still sacrificed it.

After seeing all the hype around haikyū for month's I decided to watch it and it didn't let me down. After finishing it I went straight to my aunt and asked her to play with me and hell did I love it, it makes you feel giddy and happy for some reason. I've now been playing volleyball for 7 month's (not on a team tho sadly, as I already graduated high school and have taken time off college) and I still get that feeling. Haikyū is something definitely worth spending your time on, every character is something new and as much as you want to hate the rivals, you can't because at the end you realize that they're just trying to make it big on the same thing. I am forever in love with Haikyū 🥺❤
@@redvelvetdoll Awesome. Next episode is THE single most important episode to determine if you will like this show :) If you like ep9 you will absolutely love this anime. If not, you can drop it imho.
I just finished the 3rd season today and this show has reignited my love for volleyball. I played setter and middle blocker in middle school and early high school before I quit do to a bad coach getting the best of me. This show hit really hard since I could relate to so many characters in this show.
im only like two episodes into the shiratorizawa match but i remember before i started it i thought "the whole season? so they're just going to show us every single point earned instead of skipping plays like normal?" because i didnt know they changed the number of sets for it. Let me tell you, the thought of a fully charted out volleyball match with every single second shown... was still really entertaining in my eyes
Emanuel Serrano I miss it too :(. I’m actually in two teams since I also play for my city’s club and they both recently just announced that all my tournaments are going to be cancelled...
Jeff: "I'm about to make a video about the match against Shiratorizawa." Also Jeff: "I died of burnout right before I was able to click the upload button."
Honestly this may sound stupid but this anime got me through a tough time in my life when I was struggling with depression. I don't know why and I honestly never will but the drive, the passions, the goals of each individual character. The ups and the downs, the defeats and disappointments, the triumphs and encouragement: the intensity was what kept me going. Hinata is such an inspiring character to me and will forever be one of my favorites.
the same thing happened to me! i first started the show during a really bad depression as a teen, and that first episode, seeing Hinata's conviction, really made me want to get up and do something for the first time in a while.
Yes! He is one of my comfort characters and he makes me so inspired and determine. He is also one of my favorite anime characters out there and my favorite in Haikyuu!!
What I love about haikyu. Is that its protagonist is someone with whom we can all empathize because he starts from scratch. We could compare him to hanamichi of slam dunk, but he was tall enough to play basketball, Hinata was a little short but he gives it all to fight.
I actually got hooked because of Kageyama more... I mean I love Hinata, but the trauma Kageyama faced drew me more to this anime. In fact I was hooked on the very first episode as Kageyama saw Hinata's will to do anything, and his growing frustration at his team being so laid back. My heart just went out to him. Hinata looked so cool in my eyes despite loosing. It was so weird that I felt pity for Kageyama more... lol
@@LuisFelipe-hb9ls Well, I think it would not have worked if it wasnt Hinata, although I guess I wouldnt have minded had Hinata already been good from the start (I dont really care much for underdog stories). But I also see Kageyama as the protagonist, the show would have never worked without him.
@@LuisFelipe-hb9ls I'm sorry but Hinata 100% deserves to be the protagonist. He has had the most character development in the show no question. Everyone one around him was either tall and/or good at the sport and he was kinda of the odd one out. Rivals or not he always helps everyone out no matter what. I could rant about him all day especially since he is my favorite character but absolutely Hinata deserves his spot as the protagonist not kageyama. He is always inspiring people due to his determination and how hard he works despite on the outside not deemed good enough for the sport. Funny thing is Hinata was the one to help develop Kageyama into what he is now and he is (from the most recent chapter) what kageyama needed. Hinata is a good protagonist and even though you don't like him you have to admit he is a great main character
Haikyuu makes me feel like how Naruto should have made me feel. Naruto should have made me feel like I'm watching a group of protagonists grow together, strengthening each other and making up for the others' weaknesses. Instead it's "oh man, look at how strong this guy is, Main Character doesn't stand a chance, but wait, that guy was actually no match for this other guy, Main Character beats that guy later on." Why I compare it to Haikyuu is because the skeleton of these characters resemble that of Naruto's characters. Hinata (ironically) is the Naruto of the group. Raw natural talent, brash and emotional but with a good heart. Tobio is the Sasuke. Gifted genius who's goal is to surpass one from an older generation which drives him to become an edgy loner. Daichi is the Kakashi. The leader that the rest of the team respects, his backstory moments are there to accentuate another characters backstory. There's plenty of other comparisons (mainly because Naruto's cast tries to spread itself so hard to make sure there's a character for everybody, i guess) but the core cast of characters have the personality that embody Naruto's core cast. What Haikyuu does that Naruto don't is evolve these characters naturally into what they become. They have faults, they fuck up, they move on. Naruto's characters have such an awful evolution throughout the show. Sasuke never evolves from the edgy loner, he and Naruto never even have friend moments like Hinata and Tobio do, but they're supposed to be "best friends." From what I remember, during the first season they climbed a tree together and the rest of the season they were essentially separated. Throughout the chuunin exam Sasuke and Naruto train separately with their only interaction before Sasuke joins Orochimaru being a fight becasue Sasuke was jealous. Next, Sasuke leaves and Naruto catches up to him, and he tells Naruto "you're my best friend" referencing the Mangekyou Sharingan acquisition. But they aren't friends. We never got those scenes. Haikyuu gives us those scenes. Hinata and Tobio grow together, one makes the other stronger. In the first season of the show. It's like, 7 episodes in and we get more development from these two than the entirety of the Naruto canon between Naruto and Sasuke.
Naruto made me feel more than Haikyuu did I don't think the main intent of Naruto was to show how characters strengthen and grow together. Naruto and Haikyuu both got boring to me at points though. I wouldn't say Naruto had raw natural talent because he had to work and practice to reach his goal. In my opinion Naruto is better than haikyuu I just enjoyed it more maybe because I grew up with it.
The Haikyuu anime happened to come out right after I had just quit volleyball. It was my senior year of high school, and I had no intentions of playing in college, so I wanted to enjoy my final year hanging out with friends rather than in the gym everyday after school. I played for 8 years at that point, and needless to say, it felt like something was missing. Haikyuu really filled that void for me, and kept my love for volleyball alive. It even got some of my friends into playing. We'd go play in public parks sometimes so I could teach them, and eventually I got into coaching as well. During breaks for school when I'd come back home, I'd go and help out my old club team with coaching, and one of the girls even told me I really helped her open up as a person and become more confident when she played, made me cry just a little. Even if Haikyuu didn't get me into volleyball, I still consider it a big part of my life. My only gripe is that you'd never realistically play Hinata in a match, he's just a life-changing injury waiting to happen lol (at least in the early stages of the story). Ukai literally let him play when he could've killed himself and everyone else on the court, but hey look at him making kills with his eyes closed. I know it's just fiction, but it's one of those things where if you have experience, of course you're going to have some issues watching it.
I literally cannot get enough of any of these boys. I've never seen a show that has a cast with this many extremely memorable characters that could all be considered "best boy." The training arcs also make for amazing callbacks during actual matches so you can be like "wow they did the thing I'm so proud."
I really love oikawa, and I want to protect him. Throughout all the series he shows that a part of the talent you can have at volleyball is something you have to be born with like KAgeyama, which he hasn’t and he tries so hard to find his limit. He struggles and wants to get better even tho he knows he won’t be as good as other players for that reason, but he keeps going because volleyball is his passion , and wants to be good at something . He thinks kageyama is better than him and want to go on his level but at the same time , kageyama thinks oikawa is better than him and tries to be better than him . His story is really interesting (also I used something you said for my video on the comments ,gave you credits , you explained everything amazingly )
not gonna write a whole essay about why haikyuu is my favorite anime and one of the best series in existence because i've absolutely done that elsewhere, but thank you for covering this show and what makes it so great. i kept nodding and smiling so big every time you mentioned an element or character i particularly love, so yeah i was smiling a whole lot :') haikyuu motivates me to exercise and get shit done, but it's also done a lot for me emotionally. as someone who deals with low self esteem, insecurity, and very broad inferiority complex, it was life changing for me to go through high school watching a series that involved several characters dealing with the same stuff. tsukishima and oikawa come to mind--though tsukishima refuses to try and oikawa pushes himself too hard, they both struggle with the fear/knowledge that there's someone better than them out there and both react very badly to that fear. eventually, though, they come to realize that they don't NEED to be better than everyone, and it's okay to be driven by their own pride and do what makes them happy simply because they want to, not worrying about any external pressure. i really needed to hear that, and for these reasons and others, they're two of my favorite characters. i also love yamaguchi, who inspires me as well because we're both anxious and worried about disappointing others, but he puts in the work and becomes someone dependable for his team. i guess i did write a bit of an essay lol. but the whole thing about haikyuu is that it makes me say, wow, i can do that too! even if it's not volleyball, it comforts me with its message that it's okay to fail, because you'll come back stronger, and it's okay to do the best YOU can do, because what matters is it's YOU, and you don't have to be better than someone else to be worth something. this is long, so if anyone reads all this, thank you! and feel free to wax poetic about your own favorite characters in the replies, i love to read that stuff :)
The episode that made me go from liking this anime to loving it, is season 1 episode 16 "Losers." It's the episode that wraps up the match between Karasuno and Ikejiri's team, while also simultaneously showing us a match between Karasuno's girl's team and another school. At the time, I liked sports anime, but I had only seen a few, and to me, none of them showed the losing side like that montage at the end of the episode. It made me take a minute and step back because for the first time, Karasuno, the boys I have been rooting for and couldn't wait to see them dominate the competition after being put down for years, was too intimidating. I felt so bad for Ikejiri and his team. I felt Karasuno was too strong and this wasn't fair! This feeling continued for a while, but once we got to stronger teams, I breathed a little easier. Even when Karasuno lost that first time, I was devastated, but I couldn't be mad at the opposing team for one, because I grew to love them, and two, I know they worked just as hard and everyone did what they could. It was the strangest feeling. Haikyuu!! is my absolute favorite anime and always will be.
I couldn't agree more! It just has this level of realism to it, with how they show all the characters interacting and how they react to things. I just love this anime so much and as hype as it is, I feel bad for people who will avoid it just because it's hype. It deserves the hype.
"Him and his best friend Iwaizumi have been training since they were kids to go to nationals together" Damn I didn't expect to get hit in the face with feels like that ;--;
As a former volleyball player, watching Haikyuu brought me back to when I used to play. It made me regret quitting. I remember the feeling of playing and watching haikyuu took me back to those feelings and memories. Damn I miss volleyball..
The Way of The Ace: Number 1, Your back should be an inspiration to your teammates Number 2, Smash every wall in your way Number 3, Every ball shall be spiked
that's basically what i answered to my friends when they asked that and they tease me abt it since i immediately sort of went to volleyball instead of soccer lol
I watched this show after I graduated high school, just a week after my own volleyball team had lost in the semi finals. Honestly it stung a little to see Karasuno succeed after my team had just failed, but the characters are so endearing that I couldn't help but root for them, and it honestly gave me a great way to cope with my team's loss. (I also related way too much to the third years who lost and wouldn't get another chance next year rip)
I would like to say that while I didn’t start playing boys volleyball because of Haikyuu, the sport has truly changed my life for the better. When I was younger, I was a depressed, overweight kid who had no social skills at all. I tried other sports, but I didn’t have any love for them. However, joining my first junior club team here in the states opened my eyes to many people and interactions the old me would’ve never had. My weight improved and I’ve gotten stronger than I thought possible. While not everyone may like actually playing volleyball, it brings a bond that I feel no other sport can. It sucks that it’s perceived to be a girl sport, but overtime this perception will diminish as player count grows. It’s also nice to have an anime about the sport I play and I can relate to! (Even if Tobio’s spinning drop sets are illegal moves in actual volleyball)
Skully _ Nope. I’m 100% sure (at least for indoor) that after the first pass when the ball comes over the net, all sets must have minimal spin to be considered fair. The first touch can spin though as long as it wasn’t deliberately 2 separate touches.
My mom is a sports anime fan whilst I'm a supernatural anime fan. She tried many times to make me watch sport anime and so I finally gave in. Haikyuu was what I watched. And I liked it. In return I had her watch Tokyo Ghoul. She also liked it. Now we both watch each other's taste in anime. (Yes, my mom is an anime fan.)
Character Development is so strong in this series. Im proud of every single character even if they are from a different team. These characters are people and they have realistic dreams of winning that I end up cheering for both sides 🥺🥺🥺 so wholesome and relatable 💖
Haikyuu has the absurd ability to make me feel genuinely bad for the opposite team when they lose. Everyone just wants to win so badly.
Have to second this. Watching some of the matches, after getting to know characters on both sides of the net, made it impossible to cheer for just one side or want one team to lose.
Futility Belt the same happens to me with Demon Slayer
still devastated seijoh lost
Go check out Hajime no ippo. Same idea but the fact that it’s boxing allows more development of the opponent

It’s just like:
Powerless supportive kinda badass protagonist and who won’t give up! And then they get more powerful, cuz they have this one goal.
These protagonist are like, Hinata, Ash, Asta, Deku and many more!
I protags that could be a easily just be side characters, but have this one thing that still makes them protagonists
Kinda like in jojo’s, they connect, cuz of their bloodline and personalities, but it could have been like Kakyoin was a jojo and Jotaro was just a side character, that could have worked easily
But I just can’t like haikyuu?!
Then try Slam Dunk. It is not one of the best sports anime, it is one of the best anime.
Heck even the comedy surpasses most comedy anime
too bad season 4 kinda ruined it
damn, I couldn't have said it better

Haikyuu is in my top 5 animes and its the only anime that made me read the manga since I cant wait for them to release the animated one.
yeah. u r right. even though it is Anime people often like to look things which are more possible in actual life. which makes it more relatable in everyone's life.
the fact that you mentioned SLAM DUNK...... hahaha. i hate writing so i hope u understand

Even a small character as tsukki got his moment! He went from not caring much for the sport to loving it 🥺
The number 2 is soo true.
Yamaguchi is criminally underappreciated and I will fight everyone for it
Daichi is my absolute favorite member in karasuno, but i have soft spot for yamaguchi. i remember i cried when he FINALLY perfectly served the ball. he OWNS it.

This is the only reason I ended watching Haikyuu
pros of loving haikyuu: you love every character and team
cons of loving haikyuu: you love *every* character and team
we see the opponents goals, and hopes and dreams. we see them crying when they lose, and their practices, their motivations.
haikyuu’s also very realistic, no powers, just real life abilities. the main team also has their losses, unlike other animes where the main characters always win.
"Talent is something you make bloom, Instinct is something you polish"
-Oikawa
This line purely inspired me to do great things in volleyball and not succumb to those who are way more talented than me. Train hard
You made me cry 😭

Also I had a favorite character from EVERY primary school's team. It's rare for me to be emotionally invested in so many characters.
You know it's a really good Anime if it manages to make you cry without killing off any of your favourite characters

And he tried to bitch slap an 11 year old:)

Nishinoya is the epitome of what a volleyball player (not just a short one) should be; but he's also a sweet, funny and loyal teammate who just wants to improve his already God-like skills. He's just so awesome! I'm glad you agree!
The only bad thing about Haikyuu is there are so many characters that I forget some of their names but at the same time that is a good thing too
Edit: also it makes you feel like you know so much about volleyball uNTIL YOU DECIDE TO TRY PLAYING
Haikyuu will be the most memorable sports anime you'll ever watch, you won't see a overpower protagonist or antagonist, every single character is realistic and balance, almost every character have character development despite their huge cast.
Here's 10% of their development:
•Hinata our protagonist, a human tangerine🍊 and decoy of karasuno is short 167cm and counting (in volleyball that's very short) but that doesn't stop him from doing what he loves and became the next little giant, he used to only be good for his quick reflexes and stamina but when time goes by, his gradually getting better at receiving and serving through watching his opponents matches.
(I'll just let you find that out yourself)
•Sugawara, the mom of karasuno and a backup setter.

@@crystalcollision5432 yeah same and i still don't understand how those 10 episode were long but were perfect. It fits

The video should have been just a screen saying “*everything*” for 10 seconds
This is making me miss volleyball more than ever
Me too man it ain't easy
Yeah, same
All I wanna do is play some volleyball with the boys :(
All I can do is wait for Haikyuu’s new episode every week
Emanuel Serrano I miss it too :(. I’m actually in two teams since I also play for my city’s club and they both recently just announced that all my tournaments are going to be cancelled...

Hinata is SUCH a good character and protagonist. I love how he treats and interacts with people from other teams.
It was so weird that I felt pity for Kageyama more... lol
@@LuisFelipe-hb9ls desire to kill intensifies
@@LuisFelipe-hb9ls Well, I think it would not have worked if it wasnt Hinata, although I guess I wouldnt have minded had Hinata already been good from the start (I dont really care much for underdog stories). But I also see Kageyama as the protagonist, the show would have never worked without him.
@@LuisFelipe-hb9ls yes, but kageyama is a genius, like Tsubasa or Rukawa, he serves more like the rival no the protagonist.

Preach 👐
YES
Naruto made me feel more than Haikyuu did I don't think the main intent of Naruto was to show how characters strengthen and grow together. Naruto and Haikyuu both got boring to me at points though. I wouldn't say Naruto had raw natural talent because he had to work and practice to reach his goal. In my opinion Naruto is better than haikyuu I just enjoyed it more maybe because I grew up with it.
Amen Broda
You can have an opinion but if you're implying this overrated repetitive mid anime is better than Naruto please leave
What's so great about haikyuu!!: ROLLING THUNDER!!! ⚡⚡⚡
again!
Double!
His story is really interesting (also I used something you said for my video on the comments ,gave you credits , you explained everything amazingly )
indeed, kageyama has it ever since he was born... in the manga, he even munched volleyball as a baby.
not gonna write a whole essay about why haikyuu is my favorite anime and one of the best series in existence because i've absolutely done that elsewhere, but thank you for covering this show and what makes it so great. i kept nodding and smiling so big every time you mentioned an element or character i particularly love, so yeah i was smiling a whole lot :')
haikyuu motivates me to exercise and get shit done, but it's also done a lot for me emotionally. as someone who deals with low self esteem, insecurity, and very broad inferiority complex, it was life changing for me to go through high school watching a series that involved several characters dealing with the same stuff. tsukishima and oikawa come to mind--though tsukishima refuses to try and oikawa pushes himself too hard, they both struggle with the fear/knowledge that there's someone better than them out there and both react very badly to that fear. eventually, though, they come to realize that they don't NEED to be better than everyone, and it's okay to be driven by their own pride and do what makes them happy simply because they want to, not worrying about any external pressure. i really needed to hear that, and for these reasons and others, they're two of my favorite characters. i also love yamaguchi, who inspires me as well because we're both anxious and worried about disappointing others, but he puts in the work and becomes someone dependable for his team.
i guess i did write a bit of an essay lol. but the whole thing about haikyuu is that it makes me say, wow, i can do that too! even if it's not volleyball, it comforts me with its message that it's okay to fail, because you'll come back stronger, and it's okay to do the best YOU can do, because what matters is it's YOU, and you don't have to be better than someone else to be worth something.
this is long, so if anyone reads all this, thank you! and feel free to wax poetic about your own favorite characters in the replies, i love to read that stuff :)

"so why do you play volleyball?"
me: h a i k y u u
that's basically what i answered to my friends when they asked that and they tease me abt it since i immediately sort of went to volleyball instead of soccer lol
Do you think it may just be illegal in the states? Jw. Most of what I know about the sport is from the show lol
Laura YUC You can’t really set the ball with a spin without it being considered a double touch
its illegal if the ball spins sideways, but it does forward
I thought that was just in Beachvolleyball
