I'm only just now realising what a huge part of my youth this band was. all of these songs bring back wonderful memories and I remember all of the melodies in most of the words. I miss those days and I miss good music. Rest in peace genius.
A fantastic tune off a brilliant album!!! The band were on top form for this record. Played it non-stop when it came out. This is my favourite song on it. Steve Hanley's monster bass sound and Mark's maniacal and increasingly hysterical yelping! It's just superb. Buy the album!
Perhaps the label didn't have the distribution or payola power and if it wasn't supported by a strong video (during a time when video's were important marketing tools), that would also feature in it's un-hit eventuality. Maybe it wasn't deemed "commercial" enough to be put on daytime radio playlists too, which would definitely greatly affect it. Anyway, those are only examples that immediately came into my head: If one were to deeply get into it, there are many, Many reasons why some songs are not hits (or even massive hits!)
Because the proles have got no taste or soul? They would much rather 'Chav' it up town instead. Mark would have forgiven them their sins if only they would have evolved and expanded their musical tastes.
Someone here said " why wasn't this a hit " ? Well , many Fall songs were potential hits , but mainstream daytime radio and the general public at large , seem to prefer safe songs and fluffy nice songs ! Anything challenging or different is often rejected by the masses .
