Thank You for a great video and information.

Thank you so much Mike for taking your time to make these videos that teach us beginners very useful techniques. I am making an octagon end table made of walnut. I wanted an accurate octagon for the shape so this really helped. After shaping the table top I want to route the edge with the Roman Ogle profile then inlay,1" from the edge, a 9/16" wide strip of marble tile I got from Home Depot all around the whole outer section of the table top. Then I want to insert a 4" piece of padauk in the center and out line it with a thin piece of brass. The column down to the legs will be turned on the lathe also of padauk. I am not sure what type of wood or style the legs will be or the number. 3 or 4 I guess. Anyway thank you again so much. You are an awesome craftsman.
No problem, that table sound Awesome. Have fun, good woodworking.

.
Great tip Mike. Will this work for any size? I need to cut a 12 inch octagon for a game board for the wife. Keep the tips coming.
Yes I just did a 16in just fine
good tip, ty
.
Neat trick! So did you save those little corners thinking they will come in handy someday?
Yup, and have already use some.
nice
Thanks Dave
i like the way you did that .what i would like too know is how to make one out of 2by 4 ,about 6 feet sq./?
+albert mikkelsen Well careful measuring and a straight edge with a saw for me. Or buy a big table saw
Almost Perfect octagon, use sqaure w unit 8. Cut of all corners at 45 D at 2.343 into sides, remaining virgin face is 3.314 (8) and formed cut sides are 3.3135, if you can measure accurately enough. SO if you g a 6" sqaure the corner cutoffs are 1.75725"
True, close is good enough for this demo
@@mfwoodshop right. I like your method though, did not know that.
So are you making a stop sign birdhouse?
No but that would be cool.
Do you have any tips for making a 10 sides decagon?
no Sorry
Would it be possible, using the shim, to flip the pieces over and knock the corners of the other piece and end up with two octagons? Obvious the nails would get in the way.
Great question, and yes the only safety concern is there is not a lot of surface area to hold against the shim. I did that on my bird house and that's what I found. It still worked.
If you were doing multiple octagons I think it would be easier to lay them out with the octagonal table from your framing square and then gang cut them.
Uv
What if you want to cut an octagon without putting holes in the piece?
+Jason McCabe (Camulas) double sided tape, hot glue, ca glue.
any better solutions for this now that time has passed? Something without nailing each piece like that? I gotta do 1000 :)
I have not thought about it at all. I haven't cut any sense this video. maybe double sided tape.
quebien ese megusto
me too
as Maynard G. Krebs would say, that was a little square :>)
Don't know who that is. But I'm sure it has to do with the 60's I think. Thanks for watching.
comedy series The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. Maynard was his beatnik sidekick. yes, you are too young.
Two words = Framing Square.
.
Thats a shit idea, now you have holes in you octagon...
then dont do it jack ass
