I'm glad you like it. My Father's old super-8 videos that he took during my whole childhood had been sitting in a box in his garage for all this time. I had them converted and made clips for you-tube 2 years ago. I'm lucky that he did such a good job of organizing and combining his reels over the years. He just died in January of this year. He lived a very good life. Thanks again .. Steve
I was 11 and dad brought me along on a business trip from Chicago. Stayed at the Sir Francis Drake with the Beefeaters and the Skyline Room and the cable car at the door. I said to myself this is where I'm going to live when I grow up and after college it was. While he was working mom took my brother and I to GGPark and the Japanese Tea Garden and to Fisherman's Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge. All so beautiful and everything clean - no bums or junkies around. Half a century later I would walk dog at Fort Funston near where the pony ride place was in Daly City.
Thank you for posting this. This was the city as it was when I was 7; we moved away a year later. I’ve been looking for my parents and grandparents in the film! LOL!
This is the SF I remember my ship was stationed at alameda and i went to SF as much as i could. 66 was a very good year for me made 2nd class electrician got a car ( a 57 buick but what the hey) got a girlfriend Great memories thanks for sharing
I Was Born In 67 As They Call The Summer Of Love I've Always Thought I Was Born At The Wrong Time I Should Have Been A Hippie Back In Thoses Days I Have Very Strong Feeling's For The Late 60s And Early 70s✌️✌️
Thanks for the great video. I was born in the city in the early 50’s and lived there until 2001. It’s fun to see the old cars and the SF muni busses back in that era
Yes Indeed 💯 Vintage Classic Bay Area Footage, I was Born 10-31-1965. I'm From San Diego Cali. & My Very Best Freind went to College in Frisco & I used to visit him as often as I could, Hey any reason to get to the Bay Area was Ok with me, I Luuuuuv Frisco its a Great City💙💗😁
I remember living in the inner Sunset district on Lincoln Way & Funston street. We lived in a lower flat with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. I think my mother paid $128.00 dollars a month rent back then!!!!
Great stuff ! If someone wanted to do a parody of a film and be silly this is a goldmine. However I would charge that this film was quite well planned and likely spend some time and money to complete. It was a joy to watch.
This is so cool! I've been looking for this in the old, back in the day films & videos of San Francisco. I was a big fan of the TV show "ironside" starring the late great Raymond Burr. At 04:54, you can see the old Hall of Justice building that Ironside worked out of. To the bottom left of the tall office building in the center of the screen, you can just about make out a black building just off the very visible street there. That's Kearney Street. The Hall of Justice has those arched windows that was a hallmark of that structure and you can just about make them out. You can also see what look like skylights or something on the roof, reflecting the sunlight. Also, just to the right, across that street, with all the trees, you can make out Portsmouth Plaza Park. They filmed some remotes of Ironside's building there. And then just to the right of that, there is a slightly taller white structure. That is a restaurant that has long since closed. "Empress of the Boon". From the roof of that restaurant they filmed a sweeping remote skyline view of Ssn Francisco and panned around to the Hall of justice, where they then closed in on it leading to a scene inside Ironside's office. The people who shot this video here on u tube clearly shot this video from Coit Tower on top of Telegraph Hill. In 1966, that was a year before Ironside premiered on TV in 1967, but they shot remotes of the Hall of Justice before they tore it down. For just about the entire 8 year run of the series, though his office was in the old Hall of Justice, the building itself actually no longer existed! They tore it down to make way for the Hilton Hotel and the Transamerica Pyramid complex that stand there today. I've been stumbling across some old videos of San Francisco back in the day and how it has changed from then till now, not necessarily for the better. And I've been looking to see if anybody caught the old Hall of Justice, whether inadvertently or on purpose. And I never saw it. Either because when they were filming it was already torn down, or if before it was torn down, they just weren't looking for it. But you guys scored a bullseye! Thank you and congratulations. It's too bad you didn't happen to close in on it and it's very far and blurry, but I was look'in and I caught it! What an amazing piece of video trivia! Thanks again!
Very cool but I had to lol at the close ups of the strippers in the poster . Dads..am I right? You guys traveled everywhere. I’m jealous. Great little channel. Great family it seems. I’m from San Francisco and this video captures the spirit of the city. Take care during these crazy times ✌️😷
hopefully you made it to the haight, went to some shows at the fillmore, avalon, or carousel ballrooms, saw some legendary bands, dropped some owsley and lived through a moment that changed history forever
Kids climbing all over a steam engine! Would they (the authorities and do-gooders) even let you do that today? Someone might fall and sue the city for millions! Simpler times!
I was born at the Presidio 70 years ago, this video brings back some fond memories. Thanks for sharing!
I was born in San Francisco in 1963 I lived there until 1970. Thanks for the great video brought me back.
Oh how much I would have loved to live in this city then....

You’re a very lucky man for having such a thoughtful Father & loving Family.
Lived there during that time- was three, but I do remember a few things.
I was 11 and dad brought me along on a business trip from Chicago. Stayed at the Sir Francis Drake with the Beefeaters and the Skyline Room and the cable car at the door. A marvelous tribute to your family and to the city from your father.
OMG!! I went on that pony ride as a little girl too!! I remember that!

Love these videos! Just found your channel. I was 6 in 66’. Your Dad liked the Bunny Room! 🤣🤣 thank you for sharing!
I was a baby living on 24th Street at the time. My father, John Overstreet, was a cab driver.

Wonderful !! Tanks for post!!!!
Thanks! I was born & raised in San Francisco (born 1962) This is just so fantastic!
Great video thank you
I bet the rent was incredibly cheap back in '66.
I remember living in the inner Sunset district on Lincoln Way & Funston street. We lived in a lower flat with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. I think my mother paid $128.00 dollars a month rent back then!!!!
Russian Hill 2 bedroom flat, $90/ month.
I was born in 63, I’m the little boy in the video :-)
Wow it like opening a Bay Area time capsule. This is a historical gem!!
This is where and when I was conceived (born/raised elsewhere). My parents aren't around to tell me more. So, this find of a film, is well, wow.
Loved seeing my home town as it was when I was just learning to drive in 1966. Wonderful memories! Thank you so much for posting this!
Absolutely amazing footage. The lack of wall to wall people. The Tenderloin not looking like the ghetto it is today. Where's my wayback machine?
My sentiment exactly
So much more pleasant
Thanks for posting this.
What a treat to see both Monterey AND San Francisco from that period!
I remember playing on that train at the zoo
Forget the animals, playing on the steam locomotive at 8:20 is why I loved the zoo.
Wow!!!!to see sf like this before I was even born is amazing!!!thanks for posting!!

Thanks for this beautiful and historically important video

This was before the Pyramid. Before BART. Before they tore down Playland.
Yup, I remember as a teenager Playland at the beach closed down on Labor Day 1972. My mother knew George & Leo Whitney!!!!

Glad you like it.
A lot less people and cars..and bums.must have been nice.
Those roads though....
When in '66 was this shot, Steve? We lived in Los Banos and Fairfield in 1966.

I jumped off that same engine as a kid (on a dare), & had the wind knocked out of me!!
He was 87.
daddy look like he was interested in the girlie shows- thank goodness momma was there to give him some common sense.
How old was your dad when he died?
