This is even - so to speak - highest quality of singing (and expressing human feelings). Unuebertrefflich in every time, never ever again! Bravissima Anna Tomowa-Sintow! Bravissimo Placido Domingo! Und wie sie sich gegenseitig aneinander begeistern!!!

Listen also to the amazing timpani playing of the late, great Royal,Opera House timpanist Alan Taylor, RIP…pedalling his way through this duet, including an amazing upwards scale towards the end. Playing of the utmost brilliance, night after night. It was a thrill to hear him always.

Domingo and Tomowa-Sintow deliver an excellent performance with a powerful dramatic crescendo. His voice sounds beautiful and quite youthful. Hers does not sound quite as youthful but is round and firm up to the high notes. There is an intriguing quality to her timbre.

Great delivery of this spectacular finale. Wonderful voices and so much passion. Who cares if they sing half tone below? This is opera as it should be performed, not what we have now in many opera houses.

@vivadomingo1 and @Carlos Montane. Bringing this half a step down was not uncommon. One mentions Del Monaco did it and so did Di Stefano. When they do these productions they do several performances. When you sing this type of music and especialy something as heavy as Chenier, you are going to have nights when you need to get a bit of a break I guess. Remember also you are at the end of the opera. You tend to be a bit tired at this point.

Half step down, for Domingo, who else ????. The B flat was top, why do you think Bonisolli called him Placi mingo ??? because no DO.

Most tenors sing this down in live performance - even Corelli and del M. So what is your point?
