When placing the pan gasket on the block use gasgacinch 440A on the sides, the gasket will not move then. On the ends after you place the RTV set the pan on then go have a cup of coffee or a smoke anything to kill 15 minutes before you torque the pan bolts. You want the rvt tacky to prevent movement from wet and slick rtv.. you'll get a perfect seal everytime.
Really enjoying your in depth Instruction... just a few questions.. did you do a .030 overbore on the cylinders/block ? did you purchase the pistons that much over? and what did you have to do the crank too? or did you use stock crank bearing? I'm actually about to rebuild a 1971 402 and this is really helpful. !
Hey thanks for watching Mike! We did 0.030 overbore on the block so we bought positions to match. We went 0.010 under on the crankshaft. I double checked all of this with our machine shop. Good luck on your build! Part 15 of this series will be up tomorrow!
Awesome series Ryan, I have watched all of your series about 3 times by now :), Thanks heaps , little question for ya, looking to replace stock oil pan for my build, will it matter if i replace it with more quarts capacity pan or keep with stock?
Thanks for watching x3! No that won't change anything except how much oil you put it in when you change it. It is especially helpful with engines that run high RPM a lot like in a boat.
what would you suggest I buy to give a 1993 tbi 454 motorhome motor i am taking out right now, need to keep it low budget as possible,I would like to give it more power and torque, yet keep it dependable to pull a car behind it and go to California and swing around through mountains and colorado and around through Kentucky to Alabama and back to texas without any issues, appreciate any advise a long block from local engine overhauler is around 1795, I think I could do just what your doing and have a better engine, should I keep it tbi system
That sounds like fun! Well if it were my big block I'd go for a better cam and intake. Also consider moving back to a carburetor. Make sure your cooling system is also up to the task, it gets really hot here in California. Thank you so much for watching and commenting Raymond!
Thanks for posting. Why does the oil pan have a hole in the center towards the front? I thought I ordered the wrong one for my 454 but i noticed this moroso pan also has a hole with no bolt.
How many HP are you getting once is done? I am putting together something similar, but with flat top pistons with stock diameter. It may be a good idea to install yours...
Ooooo now there is the question I have been thinking about for the last 3 months. I have seen other guys run a setup very similar to mine and get around 500-550 hp. So I'd guess right around there. I mean I would, more is more :) Thanks for watching Juan!
So is this block the Gen V 4 bolt main (1991) because after doing a little research it stated this is the year it started with the 4 bolt mains? I’m asking because I have one I’m working on and the part for the oil pump on summit states it’s for applications up to 1990 which would not be a 4 bolt main! Or does this matter and it works for both?
I'm pretty sure it will work for both. It is also my understanding that 4 bolt mains where typically for truck applications and were made during the entire length of the Gen4. Could be wrong on that though.
It came with our oil pump or pickup. I don't think I re used that fastener. But there are hundreds on this engine, I can't remember where I got every bolt from. Knowing me I got it new. I wanted everything new. Thanks for watching!
Great content, I like the cleanliness theme, even the tech is clean-cut. And it's to the point, A to Z and done
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for keeping the series going. I’m going to be rebuilding a 454 this summer and this has been really helpful. Thanks!
Thanks for watching Nicholas!
watched all 8. i like how clean he is.
nice work ryan.
Just saw this comment! Thanks so much for watching!
This series has motivated me a lot more to tackle rebuilding my 454 out of my c20 I'm putting it into my k10
NICE! Let me know how it goes!
Really well done. My eyes taking it all in. Superb.
Wow, thank you!
Bro your awesome as giving up instructions for sure.I’m getting ready to build a 454 for my 62 c10
Heck yeah! Let me know how it goes!
great video that was top of the line
Thanks for always watching Joseph!

I found my oil pump drive gear on the floor when I had my engine upside down on the stand. Can this be reinstalled from the top side?
Watched the whole series great info.. don’t know if i over looked it or not but i can’t find the part where you did the harmonic balancer
It's right here ua-cam.com/video/WITN7Q8SX1U/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!
Nice content, good job. Will watch more
Awesome, thank you!

Mine has that too I believe. I believe it is so the same pan fits a Mark IV and a Gen V big block. Thanks for watching!
Is that the stock timing cover? Videos have been extremely helpful btw.
Yes it is. Thanks for watching!

2CarPros thank you! Also which video has the installation of the harmonic balancer in?
Hi again. So I’m at this stage now, I need the oil pump stud or oil pump bolt. Is that a part you replaced, or did you reuse?
It came with our oil pump or pickup. I don't think I re used that fastener. But there are hundreds on this engine, I can't remember where I got every bolt from. Knowing me I got it new. I wanted everything new. Thanks for watching!
Disappointed that Oil pan to to Pick - up distance was not checked, ( modeling clay method.)
They are both the stock position, really no need to check when everything is basically a fancy version of stock. Thanks for watching!
I was a little confused/concerned myself until I checked out the pump on the Summit website. I’d still check it anyway
Where did you get the dowels? Also what was this engine installed in?
I got those at Summit Racing and the engine is installed in my 1967 Camaro. Thanks for watching Tommy!
Hello. Can I use the same oil pan gasket for the gen v and the oil pick up
No, I think they are slightly different. The V and VI share but not the IV and V. Thanks for watching!
Some oil pump drive shafts were actually made of plastic?holy shit!
On one I’m working on the pump drive shaft doesn’t come out the block
you forgot the oil pump gasket .....
Doesn't need one. Thanks for watching!
There isn't one used
Are the one piece oil pan gasket any good for these bbc 454?
They are the best. Thanks for watching!
LIKE ! ! ! ! ! !
"Silicon rubber" is that RTV silicone?
Yeah silicone rubber is the same as RTV. RTV stands for Room Temperature Vulcanizing Silicone Rubber. Thanks for watching!
Hi 👋 brother
Can send me and youtube show how to fix 454 gmc truck 1982 oil pressure sending unit and wiring
oh shit ya i first used one of those 1 piece felpro gaskets over 10 years ago and have never and will never use anything else again
Yeah they are the best! Thanks for watching!
Yo
Trust nun yo
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You didn't show how to install the harmonic balancer :(
I would never let you down. ua-cam.com/video/WITN7Q8SX1U/v-deo.html Thanks for watchign!
You shouldn't use any gasket sealer with the one piece gasket. Especially the amount you used on the front. Way too much. Don't need any at all.
I disagree. Thanks for watching!
It’s just rtv folks…. Silicon rubber….. 🤦
This guy went from a 2 bolt to a 4 bolt block.....
As I explained, I had one donated to me. I couldn't resist! Thanks for watching Tommy!
