    Y’all I scored 203 on the cae! I was so shocked when I got the results cause I wasn’t even aiming for grade a. I just wanted to get over the exam and pass it . So here’s an important tip I can give you: take it easy! During the whole exam I wasn’t stressed at all and you know why ? Cause I’ve been studying for so many years and I knew that I had knowledge to back up my answers.

      What do you mean by studying? Studying as in formally and diligently sit and trying to understand grammar rules and past test papers or studying as in just being exposed to the language?. You don't actually need to study much if you know the format of the exam and if you have a really good level. I didn't study at all and I scored 204 on the CAE and got grade A overall

    What I wonder is, will the cognitive devolopment or literacy level of the person affect their score when dealing with the different question tasks? I mean we, teachers, are supposed to "push" our high school students to get a C1 level when they don't even deal with certain words and concepts in their native language.

    • @Marian_RDZ
      @Marian_RDZ 2 роки тому +2

      Hi Estefane. I dare say it depends on the topic being discussed in the tasks, but having sat for CPE twice, I can say from my first hand experience that, as a candidate, it is infinitely preferable to be as much informed of modern subjects, topics and social debates as possible. Having numerous ways to respond to certain questions without being a buff myself in specific areas did certainly helped.
      In my experience, only by reading scientific articles, social debates on forums or online newspapers, learning new perspectives about the themes presented in the textbooks, taking in massive chunks of information in a tireless way, as well as diving into Cambridge's online dictionary in search of expressions labelled with a 'C2' tag can one be prepared to sort out tricky questions involving topics and discussions of sensible nature.
      I used to stick to the content given by my teacher the first time, but even then I felt like a fish out of water since I didn't feel capable of dealing with such level of knowledge. It seemed to me that I wasn't living up to the expectations.
      And it may have been that way because even though I did quite well in most of the parts, I failed my first attempt by having my Listening unregistered. The point is, I enrolled once again and promised myself I wouldn't repeat past mistakes this time around, the reason why I urged myself to start raising my standard of literacy from the get go. And I would do it just about every day.
      I sat for it the second time and this time around, the effort done throughout the year paid off. I passed and upped my scores in nearly all the parts.
      Therefore, if you are perhaps seeking advice, I would say your best bet is prompt your pupils to adopt a 'bookworm' attitude toward daily life if their purpose is to outdo themselves (as far as score is concerned) and overcome CPE, that is. It will certainly make an impact on their performance when the time of the exam has come.

    • @LNVACVAC
      @LNVACVAC Рік тому

      Both will affect scores.
      Autistic students may suffer with this kind of test specifically because they may give too short or too objective answers without intentional emotional emphasis.
      And at C1 level you are supposed to be able (an used) to read general scientific publications and contemporaneous romances for adults.
      --
      Anyway...
      At C2 you have knowledge and skill equivalent or necessary to hold a Bachelor's Degree in English Language or Linguistics. Only 2 to 9 percent of native speakers reach this level of proficiency, which could be called "Mastery".
      At C1 you have knowledge and skill equivalent or necessary to hold up to a Doctoral Degree in any field OTHER THAN English Language or Linguistics. Only 8 to 25 percent of native speakers reach this level of proficiency.
      At B2 you have knowledge and skill equivalent to 45 to 75 percent of native speakers. This is the level actually required to hold jobs in administration, technical/vocational courses or to enroll at most universities on exact sciences, natural sciences or IT related courses.
      Exam requirements are always higher than actual societal demands.
      Scoring High B's on FCE actually means you are proficient in practice, even if a C on CAE formally recognizes Operative Proficiency.
      Having an A on CAE or C on CPE means you are either a english language geek or a trained professional on the field.

    I took this test maybe four years ago, it was in a cloudy saturday morning; I went insomniac since I went to a concert the day before and came back pretty late. the results were lame, it seems. I'm currently watching this video and I'm quite disappointed with my hangover 17 year old self. grade C, 169 in the overall score. at the time I did not read literature in english with frequency, but I wasn't some illiterate twat. well, I guess sleep deprivation slowly eats you up.
    FCE1. it's funny, since I got all the right answers on two tests I took for preparation. well, I suppose my intelligence varies depending on the day.

    It seems that Grade A in Advanced and Grade C in Proficiency overlap. Does that mean that if you have Grade A in Advanced you received C2 recognition? Can you choose to receive a Certificate of Proficiency Grade C if you have received Grade A in your Advanced exam or vice versa?

      Jet Yeung Hi Jet Yeung, you're right scale scores below 122 in Cambridge English: First (FCE) are not reported. So if you scored 118 in the Speaking test, your certificate and statement of results will say 'not reported' for the Speaking. Thanks

      Jet Yeung Hi Jet Yeung, if a candidate missed part of an exam for a reason that was not their fault they could apply for a resit or assessed mark. If they simply chose not to attend, then they would get an Absent mark in EPS and a partially absent grade overall. It will show as an X grade on their Statement of Results and they won't see how they did on the other components. They won't get a certificate. Thanks

  • @juanprofesoreoi
    @juanprofesoreoi 7 років тому +6

    I'm sorry but I can't make heads or tails of the conversion.
    Take the listening paper for FCE for instance:
    You say that 27 marks equal 180 points on your scale.
    Then 18 marks equal 160 points.
    One is led to believe then that each mark equals 2,22 points ((180-160)/(27-8)).
    BUT then you state that 12 marks equal 120 points. In this case, each mark would equal 3,33 points, so marks from 12 to 18 do not convert like those from 18-27.
    Could you please explain this disparity? because it applies to every single paper

    • @cambridgeenglishtv
      @cambridgeenglishtv  7 років тому +1

      Hi Juan, thanks for your question. The raw scores candidates achieve are converted into Cambridge English Scale scores. These scores are then averaged to give candidates their overall score for the exam. The conversion of the scores to the Cambridge English Scale means that the final score (such as 180) does not have an obvious connection to the number of questions that were marked correct or incorrect in the test.
      A candidates overall performance is calculated by averaging the scores they achieve in Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and Use of English as the weighting of each of the four skills and Use of English is equal. We’ve produced a factsheet that helps you convert practice test scores to Cambridge English Scale scores. It includes tables for each paper that show how many marks correspond to a Cambridge English Scale score and CEFR level: stgprd-esol.ucles.internal/images/210434-converting-practice-test-scores-to-cambridge-english-scale-scores.pdf. Hope this helps.

If you know what exam you are taking have a look at our exams page (www.cambridgeenglish.org/exams-and-tests/). I am getting ready for FCE first for schools.when we do sample papers my listening(I get about 24 marks out of 27) , writing and speaking seems confident. but for Reading and use of English i make about 15 mistakes.
    How will it effect my overall score?
    Also,for the writing test i want to know if i make a spelling mistake the whole marks for the sentence get reduced?Thank you.

      Hi Sandani, your overall Cambridge English Scale score for the whole exam is the average of the five individual scores that you receive for the four skills and Use of English. So if you score lower on one skill, it may bring down your overall score. We recommend taking a preparation course and reading extensively to improve your Reading and Use of English.
      Spelling and punctuation is important. Although spelling errors and faulty punctuation are not specifically penalised, they can sometimes impede communication so do make sure you check your work.

    I got 179 points on the fce b2 exam. Feels bad i didn't get 180. I could have been assigned the c1 level. Will this affect my opportunities in the future? Because I am a de facto c1 level.

    Hello. Can you help me please? Is there a formula to convert the ket practice score of every seccion (reading and writing= 60 total points , listening = 25 total points and speaking = 45 total points) to the Cambridge English Scale? . I entered the Cambridge web page but it only provides with examples . For instance, for the reading and writing :
    practice test score ---- Cambridge English scale score
    55 140
    40 120
    25 100
    but it does not provide with a complete list for every practice test score....I would really appreciate if someone helps me ....Thanks

      Thanks for answering. I have already seen the site you shared with me. It is the same. What if the student gets 43 in the reading and writing, 12 in the listening and 40 in the speaking? How do you change these scores to the cambridge scale? I need a formula or a complete least of scores for any score in every of the four sections of the exam.....Thanks for your help. Greetings.

    I've got a question I've been unable to find the answer to. So, if the maximum amount of points one can achieve for one of the areas is 230 - or is it 210? it's reported differently in every source I read -, how does the evaluation system work in the case of, for instance, the Use of English+Reading part, which contains 56 questions? What questions should I be more careful to elaborate because they are worth more points?

    Excuse me! I would like to enquire somethink! In case you achieve 180, it is considered that you have passed B2 with an A or C1 with a C! I beg you to reply to my question, because I' m giving exams these days and I am nervous.

    • @cambridgeenglishtv
      @cambridgeenglishtv  7 років тому

      Hello, a score of 180 would be B2 with a Grade B.

    • @jiangao4804
      @jiangao4804 6 років тому +3

      Cambridge English maybe you meant grade A.

    • @karenadriana8325
      @karenadriana8325 4 роки тому

      it depends on which certification you applied for. If you take the FCE test and you get 180 you get a B2 Certification with an A. If you apply for CAE and you get 180 you get a C1 Certification with C. It depends on which Certification you have paid.

      It takes about 200 language learning hours to move from one level to the next, so to move from A2 to B2 would take the average learner about 400 language learning hours. You can find out more here:
