It is a great chest mount, but I do have to tell you something. Now that I no longer use a gimbal and run a GoPro 7/8 using their software stabilization I am back to a light weight chest system. I do not need the added support the Stuntman offers since these cameras are light and don't bounce much at all. Just thought I was give you this info ;-)
Have you ever hit the camera with the rear tire? I've destroyed one when the rear tire came up on my full suspension bike :-( Yes! The editing does get to be a pain with all this footage sometimes.
I saw a trick where you clap your hands or make a loud snap 3 or 4 times after you started recording on every camera. When you put the footage in a video editor you can see the the snaps in the audio profile as a way to sync the footage
Hay thanks for pointers. I really nead to get around to trying some more things. Some of these work great and would not be expensive for me to implement. One of my favorite shots that you didn't mention was chainstay looking forward. Seth's bike hacks has used that effectively several times going over jumps it really shows the air, and the way the suspension unweights and the feet unweight and then the landing.
Take your suspension mount and put the camera on the side of the frame and you can actually see the fork moving up and down and get some trail footage at the same time that’s one that I’ve used so just face it forward
Hey Gene, I like putting my second camera on the seatpost pointing backwards. Picks up the top of the rear tire and terrain just ridden like you said on the chainstay, but keeps it safe from rocks and other camera-smashing things. Nice vid!
Good call man! So I've tried this in the past and have had the following issues. Let me know if you have some tips... 1. I have a dropper seatpost so the camera gets moved to close to the tires sometimes. 2. I have actually destroyed a camera after landing a jump because the rear tire came up and smashed the camera. I'm riding a full suspension bike.
Hmm yeah that's no good huh - I too ride a full squish with a dropper but it is old and only 100mm of travel (both the suspension and post) so it stays out of the way enough. Guess trial and error, or rather test-fitting is the best bet here. What about mounting on your pack facing back? I think Seth did that a couple times..
Good for you man! I read in your other post that you are getting your workouts in. Really try to keep that up even with the channel. I've not done a great job of this and my body is paying the price :-(
Consistency is the key and I haven't been consistent in the past. I am changing that now and I plan on using my bike to reach my goals. I'm 48 and the days don't get easier. ;-) Scott
Very Very Cool!! Great stuff., try a down tube angle facing the front wheel and maybe a side helmet view on your full face helmet, that way you trail helmet doesn't lean to one side. Live-Life-Loud!!!
Fantastic stuff Gene! I love playing around with different camera mounting positions and you showed me a few new ones I'll have to try out. Any recommendations for on bike mounting solutions that can hold up to aggressive riding? I've bought a few no-name brand mounts from Amazon but so far they have been less than impressive. Also don't forget the "under the seat" mount to capture riders behind you and sometimes, your own behind. Hey now!
Thanks Jordan! So I've been very happy with the SP Gadget mounts that my buddy Mike has turned me onto. There are two that I'm using. One is held onto the bike via a velcro strap. The nice thing about the strap is that is has rubber on the back so it really keeps the camera in place. The other is held onto the bike via a tie wrap. I don't use the tie wrap that they supply and just use my own. You do bring up a good point man around stability. All these mounts are nice but you also need good quality "J" style adapters that actually connect the camera to the mount. I've had my Session bounce down the trail once because the darn plastic adapter snapped in half! Other then trying to stick to name brand ones, I don't have much more to offer. If this video takes off I'll try reaching out to vendors to do some more reviews :-) Without trying to sound to much like a used car salesman, there are affiliate links to those mounts in the video description ;-)
Oh I hear ya man! Actually, that's one of the reasons I stick with the Session now. I'm going to try to stick to just the 2 GoPro cameras on the rides. My Silver in the gimbal and the Session will just get moved around a lot. It's taking me to long to edit video because of all the footage I have to look at!
Not yet 😜 I totally get the concern about this but I just wanted to share some ways to get cool shots. Remember, I'm getting footage for this channel so I might take some risks that others would not. For me, the risk is worth the footage rewards 😜😜😜😜
Thanks as always. You had some nice high top hikers on so please give me the scoop on those. Also, I like the way you pulled out from the 1 shot to the 5 shots of your different camera footage. You may want to start doing some vids on your video editing techniques. Be considerate to those of us that are on PCs vs MACs so we can ALL get our vids as enjoyable to watch as yours. #TrailLife #MTBikeLife #VideoEditingLife
Glad you liked the video my friend! Those sneakers are some older SixSixOne shoes that I got many years ago. Sure, I would be happy to put together some kind of video on creating videos that is platform free and everyone can enjoy!
Gene you scare me. The latest 2 questions i had on my mind: 1. Should i mount my GoPro facing backwards to get some cool shots of my dog chasing me down the trail? 2. Should i get the new GoPro 6? and sure enough you just made 2 videos about it. LOL Awesome timing.
I just had my hero 3+ blow out because I had it mounted under my seat to the post....first time riding DH and didn't realize how much suspension is used. Camera blew off but still works....no front screen display and is dented but if I hook the LCD Backpack to it then I can still work all functions!!!
really helpful tips! seriously, keep it up. Where do you get the those rubber conformed mounts that you tie strap to the frame and fork? what are they called?
Thanks man! It's a combo of both the Session and Silver. A little secret that we can keep just between you and me, many times I'll just go back and grab audio from the best sounding camera and lay it under the video I'm showing. Wheels on dirt sound pretty much the same all over :-)
Afternoon. I am finally trying to invest in the Stuntman Chestie Mount but now need a link to the gimble you recommend. So hoping it will have a adapter so I can use it with my Sony Action Cam. Thanks
Here are some links for you my friend - Not sure if these will work amzn.to/2xueCfD amzn.to/2g6dRqR This one is made for you action cam amzn.to/2gpeA3c Thank you very much for watching my friend!
I'm having hard time with getting decent videos on my night ride with the GPH8 mounted on my chest. Hypersmooth seems to be not working as it is on a day light. This video gives me an idea. Which Gimbal are you using for the chest mount?
Regular Guy Mountain Biking I was thinking maybe on the fork, top tube and maybe on the seat post, which one do you think will be sturdier so there’s less shake? Thanks
They are from a company called G-Foam. Here are a few links for ya - How I got them ua-cam.com/video/EVCxQTRAvLs/v-deo.html More info on them ua-cam.com/video/RBOGGBNUeno/v-deo.html amzn.to/2qAgAsf If you're interested in getting them amzn.to/2qAgAsf

I've had problems with that when riding a full suspension bike. Actually lost a camera trying this when the suspension did it's thing and ripped the camera off my bike :-(
So sometimes I just don't and the the added camera movement looks cool for the short "B Roll" type shot. You can't use it for a long time because people will get sick of watching the screen jump around like crazy. Short clips that are well placed look cool. Sometimes the completely smooth stuff looks a little fake, ya know what I mean? I also sometimes use the software stabilization in my editing program. Just understand that these shots are specialty shots and recording your entire video like this might not be to cool. Now with the GoPro 7 you can get away with much more because it's hyper smooth actually works pretty good.
Check out the description of this video. I list links to all the mounts that I used :-) Really cool stuff! Thanks so much for watching and the support 👍
well, but for multiple angles you need multiple cameras.. shit I only have one action cam :D Also, for editing with multiple cameras you can use Davinci Resolve (free), it's a nice editing software which also has multicam editing which looks like this: ua-cam.com/video/hEIXhPpdOJk/v-deo.htmlm50s
A little while ago RGMTB won a video contest from Outside TV. The helmet and a few other items where prizes. I'm still stoked about winning and wear the helmet ;-) Here's a link that explains ua-cam.com/video/EVCxQTRAvLs/v-deo.html
my friend crashed and his mongoose helmet, same one as genes, took a hard hit (made a dent) and saved him from a concussion.. his crash was a pretty gnarly washout. video if you want to see: ua-cam.com/video/1ngUqZfjkzc/v-deo.html Gene has an awesome helmet. It worked great on saving my friends brain!! I am actually thinking on buying one like his haha
"Top 5 ways to mount your action camera on your mtb" = BUY SOMETHING. I better THINK and LEARN how to mount my cammera DOING IT MYSELF. Video is no more than 5 ADS.
Wow man I'm very sorry you view this video as nothing more then a commercial 😦 I did take a lot of time to show how each angle would help produce a specific shot and which product I used to make the shot happen. Sadly, you will need accessories to get cool shots sometimes with action cameras and I was hoping to show people how this all worked so they didn't waste their money on items that do not perform well. This really was not attended to take peoples money in any way at all.
Stuntman looks awesome and could really help my footage!
Super review. Short, descriptive and useful. Plus, you have a great voice for this! cheers
bro you completely blowed my mind with the shots from the wheel bro.
Thanks for the shout-out, Gene! These are great for people looking to keep their videos fresh!
I appreciate the great job you did!
DAMMMNNN GENE!!! This vid was a home run dude, I will say best video you have ever done man, quality was solid, so stoked for this vid!!!!
Thanks man! I was hoping this one would come out pretty nice ;-)
I also like the under the seat facing back mount. That makes for an interesting shot.. However, editing multi-cam footage can be a challenge.
Have you ever hit the camera with the rear tire? I've destroyed one when the rear tire came up on my full suspension bike :-( Yes! The editing does get to be a pain with all this footage sometimes.

Nice, clear, and concise video.
Sweet. Been looking for mounting devices for my bike.

Seth's bike hacks has used that effectively several times going over jumps it really shows the air, and the way the suspension unweights and the feet unweight and then the landing.
Good call man! So I've tried that once and hit the camera with my foot. I'll try to reposition it and see if I can get some better results. Thoughts?
maybe you could get a similar result from the rear of the seat stay, just turning it to face forward? Has to be pretty low.
Nice work dude!!! Great video
Thanks man! Looking forward to putting something together with you soon!
Take your suspension mount and put the camera on the side of the frame and you can actually see the fork moving up and down and get some trail footage at the same time that’s one that I’ve used so just face it forward
Pretty slick mounts for the fork and chain stays!
Tuning in from Australia

Rear chain stay mount, also can point forward
Good one too. Thx
Love the hero session
Concise, nicee
this helped me out so much! thank you!
Awesome video Gene. Wish I had as many cameras as you lol.
HAHAHAHA! Hey, I've got some free days coming up and want to talk to you about a few MeetUps!
Very useful video man
Thumbs up! Bought both of the sp brackets great with the hero session.
Sweet! Please link your video here so I can check it out 👍 Best of luck my friend 😀
Thanks
Great work, Gene. Useful content and excellent presentation.
Thank you my friend! Always nice hearing from you :-)
Excellent video with some great mounting options. I am just starting my channel and I appreciate the advice. Scott
I'm 48 and the days don't get easier. ;-) Scott
At the canote also looks cool! GoPro Hero 8 doesn't needs a gimbal
Very Very Cool!! Great stuff., try a down tube angle facing the front wheel and maybe a side helmet view on your full face helmet, that way you trail helmet doesn't lean to one side. Live-Life-Loud!!!
Nice ideas man! Maybe a part two is in the works!

i have found that underneath the seat facing backwards gets a good angle. maybe try that?
Same helmet dude
The crotch mount is v underrated. Just remember when nature calls to un mount
Nice video Gene! Good luck going through all the footage lol it's a pain and I only have 2 Gopro's
Have you ever broken a camera using it in the fork or chain stay?
I would try this, but only on easy trails.
Thank you for sharing.
Not yet 😜

HAHAHAHA! To funny. Oh, I guess I left out the 6th place I mount action cameras. In all my subscribers homes! HAHAHAHAHA I'M WATCHING YOU!!!!
HAHAHA Dont feed my paranoia. ;-)
Hello Gene! Love the page. Question what type of mount did you use for the chainstay shot?
I put links to all the mounts in the description for ya. I'm pretty sure that one was the SP Connect Clamp Mount Set
How about attaching the camera inside the wheel somewhere in amongst the spokes. I'd like to see this!
🤔 Interesting idea man
Good vid

That's exactly how I lost my first GoPro wannabe camera. OUCH!
really helpful tips! seriously, keep it up. Where do you get the those rubber conformed mounts that you tie strap to the frame and fork? what are they called?
Dude, this is a thing of beauty. Nice work. Quick question, which camera do you take the audio from in your videos?

Hi where can you buy that fork mount, full suspension mount and chain mount ? Please give link
Much appreciated.
Hey can you explain how you can use the universal mount with the gopro.
How about trying to find a way to make a VR video by using two cameras?
That could be cool. I've been messing with the Insta360 X1 which is a great 360 degree camera
Chest mount = best mount
Hi.. a quick question i have a regular chest mount and i was wondering which Is the best angle to use the Jack mount go pro.
Omg is that guy at 2:56 riding a Norco scorcher? That's my bike!
Nice!!
But is it a norko?
Does it fit to go pro 7
I'm having hard time with getting decent videos on my night ride with the GPH8 mounted on my chest. Hypersmooth seems to be not working as it is on a day light. This video gives me an idea. Which Gimbal are you using for the chest mount?
I have the EVO SS gimbal.
hey, is there any way more "wheel" into the fork mount?
I'm not sure I understand?
@@rgmtb is there any way to get more of the wheel into the shot?
Should I get the SP clamp or universal mount??
It really depends on where you're looking to mount the camera. What are you thoughts?
Regular Guy Mountain Biking I was thinking maybe on the fork, top tube and maybe on the seat post, which one do you think will be sturdier so there’s less shake? Thanks
Regular Guy Mountain Biking I have brought the mount your using in the video but the mount is way too small for the GoPro mount please help!??
What knee/shin pads are those?

try mounting your cam on your seatpost
I've had problems with that when riding a full suspension bike. Actually lost a camera trying this when the suspension did it's thing and ripped the camera off my bike :-(
How do you stabilize the video
So sometimes I just don't and the the added camera movement looks cool for the short "B Roll" type shot. I use a EVO SS when I'm using a gimbal. Now a-days I've been just using my GoPro 7 and liking that footage.
What mount did u use in this video?

Gotta pic those safe lines 👍
Why do you have a mongoose helmet
A little while ago RGMTB won a video contest from Outside TV. The helmet and a few other items where prizes. I'm still stoked about winning and wear the helmet ;-) Here's a link that explains ua-cam.com/video/EVCxQTRAvLs/v-deo.html

I think filming yourself with the GoPro works good as well. There are some examples in this vid: ua-cam.com/video/fBJO8IuoE34/v-deo.html
Yep, totally agree! Getting some nice shots of you riding along does add to the video. Nice job!
Thanks! =)
I'm not sure how safe it is though.. :-P

No problem. I've already seen many videos like that. Most camera mounts that show anyway do not provide any anti-vibration.
