I've always wondered why songs like these and Artists like this one have the least numbers of views and appreciations. It realy takes intelligence, a healthey brain, a good personality, feelings, Sympathy, empathy, understanding, to be able to appreciate such a beautifull such a wonderfull song, Not trying to ben an asshole but those are my findings.
Been a huge fan of Iron & Wine for over 6 years at least... this was already one of my favorite songs of his but this version is a whole new song, and it blows me away. Taking your own song and making it a new song... Sam Beam is one of my favorite human beings alive
I know man. Actually I discovered (?!?) him recently. I don't like the studio version of this song. But this live performance is a different world. It's been on repeat for over 4 hours now!
I love Iron and Wine since I was 15 years old (I'm 20 now) and I've listened to it in differents moments in my life. It brings me so many memories and so many feelings. Sam Beam is definitely one of my favorites human being alive.
Run like a race for family When you hear like you're alone The rusted gears of morning To faceless busy phones We gladly run in circles But the shape we meant to make is gone Love is a tired symphony You hum when you're awake Love is a crying baby Mama warned you not to shake Love is the best sensation Hiding in the lion's mane So I'll clear the road, the gravel And the thorn bush in your path That burns a scented oil That I'll drip into your bath The water's there to warm you And the earth is warmer When you laugh Love is a scene I render When you catch me wide awake Love's a dream you enter Though I shake and shake and shake you Love is the best endeavor Waiting in the lion's mane
Lovely rendition; my favourite. Iron & Wine delivering an awe-inspiring performance in São Paulo last 2nd September is going to be one of my fondest memories ever. Hearing his voice feels like home. I was so overwhelmed that I hardly noticed the bloody mobile/camera freaks and pissing Twilight Saga twats taking stupid selfies during the concert (there should be a law against these people even breathing). But Sam is a perfect gentleman, so he rose above it. He played for 2 hours straight and that was the case when just a man and his guitar suffice to transcend. I’ve been a fan for 10 years or so but only at the concert did I realise the prodigiously gifted (and yet kind and humble) instrumentalist Sam is. Sometimes, when playing a bluesy tune, he’d go into a solemn trance-like state, meaning every word coming out of his mouth. That was sheer awesomeness! But he had fun as well, cracking jokes now and then. So I can hardly wait for his next Brazilian tour.
i agree, i love his natural acoustic sounding recordings. i don't much like the echoey sound he adds to his album recordings (sorry for lack of technical terminology hah)
Such a beautiful and soothing voice. I saw him live last summer and Austin and it's such a up close and personal experience--even if you're sitting in the farthest back row. Sam Beam can make it seem like you're the only one in that room. Surprisingly, he's actually better live. Usually we hear a singer/band that sounds worse live and it makes us disappointed. Iron & Wine only gets better--and that's hard considering the fact that he's spectacular in the recording booth as well
I have this converted to mp3 with the proper meta data album artwork and lyrics and such if anyone wants to import it into their playlists like I did just let me know I’ll send it over
Great video and song but I still prefer the original simplified version from the album. I get that its your song and you see it this way years later when you can now make it sound how you wanted it, but a lot of people fell in love with the original and this is a bit alien.Still good but but no need to "update" older songs to your newer sound.

The best version of this song. Absolutely beautifully sung and played.
I'm in tears and have goose bumps. So beautiful
Agreed.
I slightly prefer the version on Creek Drank the Cradle but I'm very glad that this different version exists

So much truth right there....

One more note! He's not just a singer. He really plays a good clean and well-composed guitar as well.

Sam beam's brilliance is he can take a single song and somehow make it into multiple versions that sound unique and great, love it.
i love this so much.
thank god they sent a poet!
His range is impeccable
This version is incredible! Sam has such a beautiful voice
I wish Sam would release an unplugged album.
such a beautiful voice, such beautiful guitar playing.
Always here when I need, waiting in the lion's mane

+José Nogueira I was at that concert, it was one of the most beautiful things I ever experienced!
Love this rendition of it.

Thanks for the post. Fantastic. A real throwback. Keep it up KEXP.
everything is perfect when sam sings and plays ....
I need this on loop!
1000% ❤

1200th like. Truly amazing song
Soo beautifull..he sings beter than on the album, puts more feeling into it.
Why is he crying when he's singing? Oh wait, I'm the one who's crying.

Lovely
Did he play it first time? anyone know? Can we hear that anywhere?
Sweet!
Wow, better than the original
I want to die so Sam can sing at my funeral.
Jacob Cowart Too bad you'd miss that performance.

Shut the fuck up.
I don't think that this is better than the original. I'm not really a fan of poppy direction acoustic folk has taken these days. Sorry.
