I consider myself below average player but after doing the puzzle I got 5/10 with 2 answers being the second best. But the great part of this video is the massive amount of new information I learned from Marks explanations. A great video and hopefully more to come. Huge thanks to mark for the detailed explanation of all moves.
Excellent video Marc! Very important to get right given opening moves occur every game and set the tone for the rest of the game. Also it is great to learn about strategic options like when to prime vs. blitz, etc.
Don't hit yourself too hard my friend. Check out the video playlist of "Beginner's mistakes in backgammon": ua-cam.com/play/PL4fhZXAGchzJsFcqsWsE8X7dHxirKS02t.html
I am a beginner and this was absolutely humiliating at first. Watched the video a couple of times now and my understanding definitely improved. Great content. Thanks! More of this, please.
What an incredible video! I learned so much! I've played hundreds of games but only got 4 out of 10. I'll definitely watch more videos if you make more!
I did 6/10. From the 3 others I got 1 dubious and you cleared this with a great answer. The 2 others I made beginner's blunders You explain it in a very clear way even for people wich don't speak native english Just logged at Backgammon galaxy!!! Love the analisis!!! Getting really in the game!!! Thank you so much!!!
Hey I want to purchase the program that you are doing this on. On my Galaxy account, I can't seem to purchase these features or upgrade my account, it says it's still "under construction." Is it no longer available or am I missing something?
That was fun! Got 4/10,Im a beginner but i like the reasoning behind not double hitting when your 1st hit is on the 4 and not to split into blitz formations,
5/10. Excellent. In position 8, what would be the correct solution if you threw a 3-1 instead. The 5 point or get closer to the edge of your opponents prime that is threatening in your inner table with his 4 point?
I just started in your book and already watched a few off you introduction video's. I was surprised I had 4 correct :). Nr 1,3,4 and 10. At 2 and 9 i had the second option. I still have problems with leaving a checker left in the my home because if it's get hit you have to start from zero again :). Learning a lot from these kind of video's. Amazing. Thank you very much for all these video's. And i still have to learn the starting roles what is best to do.
I missed 32: 13/10 6/4* I did consider it as a good option, but I chose 32: 24/21 6/4* I was worried about the back checkers getting trapped. While I did consider the 13/10 13/9 I went for the splitting play 43 24/21 13/9. :( I thought the back checkers getting trapped again. I think I play too conservatively. I got all others correct. I'm glad I found this channel. The analysis and the presenter is easy to follow.
9/10 (honest 🙏🏽) I’m brand new to Backgammon strategy (1xhour’s worth of watching videos). I really didn’t know these “rules” but having played with my mom dozens of times over the years have always enjoyed it and kind of worked things out for myself. Looks like I was on the right track! Thanks for the video it was really well done. Now I feel (know) like there is actually reason behind my intuition. My mother has now passed so I haven’t played in a few years but after watching this would like to learn and play some more. Thanks again :)
Great stuff Marc looking forward to more like this. Here are my picks before watching the rest of the video to see the answers: 1) 13/7 8/7 - to block opponent from escaping back me and making your 7 pt with his 6&5 2) 13/7* 6/1* - double hit 3) 117/7* - should double hit to avoid a stripped 8 pt 4) 24/20* - to fight for his 5pt golden point before he starts to trap you in. Your 5 pt is more valuable but he will win if you dont hit him now. he has too many builders to make his 5 pt 5) 24/20* - same move and reason as #4 above: 6) 6/4*/1* - double hit gotta take early risks 7) 6/2*/1* - same as above. double hit 8) 24/20 22/20 - Make his 5pt to not get trapped and have an advanced anchor. its more valuable than your 4 pt at this stage of the game 9) 24/18 13/10 ?? tough one. Im a little concerened about his next roll to hit me on the 10 pt but if I run all the way from 24/15 and he hits me then its a wasted roll and I will be way behind in the race on pips 10) 13/9 13/10 - Im behind in the race but you have a stronger 2 point board vs his 2 pt board. you want to stay back and try to build your prime up on the next roll to trap hin and hope to hit and close him out later. otherwise 2nd best would be 24/21 13/9 ?? tough one for sure. Lets see how I did.......
I literally just learned how to set up the board and basic rules before watching this, and I was happy to get 3 right, haha (2, 7, and 8). Though I think I would've gotten #1 correct too if I would've gone back and reviewed my work at the end, as my first answer was pretty dumb looking back on it.
@@Marcolino10DK Please add double confirmation option to the website. I can't tell you how many times I have taken a bad double thinking I was hitting the roll button. Sometimes, I have to look away from the screen then look back and I hit the button. Just lost 21 GR because of this.
1) Make the five point Y 2) Hit seven and one Y 3) Hit seven and one X 4) Make bar and five Y 5) Make five X 6) Hit four and one X 7) Hit two and one Y 8) Make four point X 9) 24>18 and 13>10 X 10) 13 > 6 X 4/10 As a rank beginner I'm pleased I managed to get at least a few right!
Enjoyed the video. 6/10 correct. I read a backgammon book or two 20 years ago. Just getting back into it now. I answered 6 and 7 with 13-8 even though that play looked like bait. Nice explanations.
4/10 but I had a slight intention to make the right moves on positions 1,2 and 3, it's just that I wrongfully thought they were too risky... so I'll consider myself a beginner with a tendency towards experienced, especially after watching the explanations. Great video for my lunch break!
Question If there were 5 on the 7 and 3 on the 5, would that make making the bar point better, or the 5 is still better? Comment. On the double Ace problem, the mistakes were so small it seems unrealistic to expect a non really good player to be able to know which is best; it’s basically just guessing. The quizzes are better if the second best plays are clearly worse (i.e. blunder or near blunder. The explanations were excellent. I especially liked the double hit explanation, about wanting to leave the hit slotted if it’s on a good point.
Wow what an amazing video! I got 7/10 but I was completely wrong on the ones I missed lol, I did the ABSOLUTE BEGINNER move on position number 2... shit happens, anyway I love this format, please make more.
Just took the challenge and I was 6 out of 10. I need to improve and your explanations made sense to me. My problem is can I recognize this stuff over the board when I'm playing. Thanks for the instruction. Please send more!!!!
9/10, though on the first move with that particular 6/1 you definitely want to make the bar point and not the golden point. The opponent’s back men are split and will fly right by the made golden point. At best it’s a close call between making the bar point and the golden point, but as a general rule you want to build adjacent points when you have a chance to pin split pieces behind a budding prime. Holding the bar point in this situation immediately removes any chance of a 5 or 6, or 5/5 or 6/6, allowing either of those pieces to escape. And in the case of a 5/6 rolled, if you did make the golden point and not the bar point, the opponent makes the bar point and can start thinking about offering you the cube.
9/10, I went for the one of the double takes that was wrong, but considered the correct option too, was torn. Good video. But too slow at the start. I think we all know what a quiz is, and how to score one, I think it would be a lot better if you just get straight into the questions in future.
Lovely logic, live & learn, doubly so on (10) and the 63 problem. For problems (3)&(5) I would play those you recommend against a superior or peer player, however, I have made mucho $$$ against turkeys who "play safe". That said, only 6, sigh
Make 5 point 2) double hit 3) double hit 4) make bar & 5 point 5) hit his 5 point 6) double hit 7) four to five slot one 8) make four point 9) slot own four point 10) four up three down

Great video! If someone could explain a bit about quiz #7 - why should one not make a double hit for a major split?
7/10 and really learned a lot thank you :)

7/10 and I'm pleased to say no blunders! Thanks for the quiz, some good lessons there.
