Pineda seems like such a great person it sucks to end like this with him

I had the opportunity to do an internship with the club earlier this year and I met Pineda. He was the nicest dude. He showed me around the coaches room, remembered my name, made sure he talked to me every time he saw me. It truly sucks it ended like this.

That's football. Even the best coaches get sacked. Looked at Xavi. All his life at the club, paid his own transfer fee out pocket, and thrown out like a dog and his results weren't even that bad considering he finished 2nd to a much better Real Madrid squad.

Also... Doug's last question (a GOOD question) was a YES... or... NO... question. Will Boca be part of the team searching for a new coach? Garth dodged it TWICE... which... I don't know what to make of. Either it's a NO: which would shed light on his faith in Boca's ability. Or it is a YES: and he is dodging the obvious shame of letting Boca partake in a process he has now bungled 3 previous times.

I think if it was a Yes he would have said yes. His answer sounds like a No.

yeah but it’s not a clear yes or clear no. Just the fact that he said he will be leading the search. Still there is a lot of room for boca involvement, which Garth sneakily avoided twice

Honestly the team needs a little more structure. Pineda wanted a more position less game. Which I really like. The problem was that we struggled to reposition defensively. The loss against FC Cincinnati is a perfect example of that. Guys were out of position. Maybe Pineda will figure it out one day. Thiago Mott’s was fired twice before he figured out how to really structure his team in Bologna. Which by the way I’d love to see AU play a 2-7-2 next season

So Garth, you claim to be "looking to the future"...then why is the relic failure, Carlos Bocanegra, still part of the organization? I genuinely find it bewildering and difficult to believe the sincerity of your statement if your long-terms plans are to retain Bocanegra. He has lied to players, media, and fans on multiple occasions and has been reckless with expenditures securing talent (much of it not talented at all).

Our moves have been rock-solid for over a year player-wise. No need to change something that isn't broken right now in 2024.

    • @tbrianbryan8049

If you personally managed your company finances as poorly as Bocanegra has managed cap resources, you'd be unemployed. Bocanegra's managerial history, in whole, has been checkered with deceit and failure. He is a distinct liability.

If you listen closely, he basically alluded to not wanting to make a change at the GM level right before the transfer window. Wouldn't be surprised if Bocanegra was replaced afterwards.

@@tbrianbryan8049except when he built the roster that won us MLS Cup, I guess. Funny how all the credit for good moves goes to the GM and all the bad moves are 100% Boca. I'm just tired of the Boca talk all the time, tbh.

I understand coach needs to go. But some players need to go too. Really bad plays. Awful passes. Like they did not want to play the game. Loss of concentration. Or they didn’t care. I would fire some players too.

You can't look at the talent this team has and think us losing is Boca's fault... This ship sailed 2 years ago when Garth came in and moved Boca out of the position where he was controlling contracts. Since then, our team has talent and is underperforming and that's clearly a coaching issue. We cleaned house by getting rid of the assistants Gonzo brought in too. Time to let go of the Boca out stuff because if Boca had an effect on locker room mentality then I'd question the structure of the organization

The biggest gap in our squad is we don't have a player like Darlington Nagbe in the middle. Dax has helped there the last two games, but we need a strong veteran presence who doesn't lose the ball, make stupid passes, and turns defense into attack. Dax isn't a long term solution in this place.
