  • Another one in the series - a 1860 style with an elliptical crinoline :-) enjoy!
    This dress is a part of the Victorian Dressmaker book - check my website or follow The Victorin Dressmaker on fb for detils!
    A note - on the gloves - Long gloves, popular earlier on, are actually a bit of a faux pas here - mistakes happen whn you have a studio for a few hours and filme everything in a hurry! And as you see at from the ball footage - no long gloves there..They woudl be quite old fashioned by then - long gloves are again popular in the second bustle era.

    I loved how much fun everyone seemed to be having dancing! The mix of styles, the two ladies dancing with each other...a great example of how one can enjoy historical fashion and accoutrements without having to adhere to the more outdated social norms!

      How about in vacation?? Aside from sport you could wear that at activities like shopping also its amazing how its 2 years-2months-2 weeks for the dates of those comments. I wish mine would say "2days ago" to make it more amazing

    Really enjoy how you show the flexibility of a set of clothes. People think the Victorian clothing so impractical (OK, maybe it is a little) but they don't realize that one skirt could have a lot of options, and since the skirt takes the most material, it really wasn't as impractical as people think.

    Here in the South - especially towards the end of the Civil war, it was vital that ladies made their wardrobes stretch as far as possible. Double uses were a must. Even triple uses!

    I like how you explain the practical aspects of clothing. I was raised on a steady diet of "men forced women into uncomfortable, binding clothes to enslave them," so a practical explanation is a breath of fresh air.

      There are some places that actually do ballroom dancing lessons and that type a thing you could look for ballroom dancing in your city and see if there is something usually if there is a community that does that sort of thing they will have at least a couple events throughout the year that are actual balls where you can actually go and dress up and dance and do the whole thing

    As a lady in the South,I found this very beautiful. The Antebellum period for clothis was absolutely stunning. But,o my goodness,the layers! Can you imagine all those fantastic clothes and layers added with the heat & humidity of the South? No wonder those fabulous ladies fainted so much. But,that's the price of beauty. And the portrait at the end of the video was wonderfully classy and visually striking. Immaculately done.

    • @priorattire

      priorattire I'm from the South, therefore, I know all too well how hot it gets here. I was commenting on the seemingly unending layers. Our heat index has been hovering around the 115° area and it amazes me at what that had to wear,EVEN WITH LIGHTER CLOTHING. Those ladies have my immense and unyielding respect. Any way you look at it,that's a lot of work. And I want to thank these wonderful people for taking their precious time,maybe even away from their families, to make these amazing videos to educate all of us.

    Perfect and dazzling as usual, but I think for a ball, on top of that, the lady would have worn a lot of jewels everywhere, and flowers in the hair. At least in France, you see that in portraits, fashion magazines, and "Memoirs" of the grand ladies of the time.

      Reminds me of something the female cast-members of "Downton Abbey" said. Even though that wasn't the 1860s (it was late Edwardian, at least in the beginning) it _still_ took a long time for the women to get dressed and as you said, took a _lot_ of servants to do so. One cast member said, "No wonder these women don't ever seem to do anything but dress up and eat dinner! It took so long just to get dressed, they didn't have time to do anything else!"

    • @MrPGC137
      @MrPGC137 3 роки тому

      @eyerenebae If you say so. But inasmuch as you didn't actually live in that era & have to go through all that rigmarole on a constant, everyday basis, I'll give your opinion only as much credence as is due (which is very little.) 'Nuff sed.

    • @feverspell
      @feverspell 3 роки тому +6

      Yeah, no. She's demonstrated more than a few times, in several videos, that it was and is more than easy for a woman to dress without any help. How do you think middle-class and lower-class women survived during that era? They couldn't afford domestic help. A husband or sister or daughter could be enlisted to provide assistance if needed, but it wasn't strictly necessary. That was true in the Victorian Era, in the Edwardian Era that followed, and in the eras that preceded the Victorian age.

    Romance has taken a back seat, because I looked forward in seeing a pretty girl getting all dressed up in a winter ball, Valentine's day dance, prom or a bridesmaid dress. I loved the 80s and early 90s where the southern Belle ball gown made a comeback. And big bows, most had big bows. Satin, taffeta and velvet made the evening special. Now, the lame', you can keep that crap! It's right up there with the 70s spandex! Times have changed?

    Wow you look stunning again. Whatever you wear suits you. I could surely use that corset right now. The elliptical cage reminded me of a dalek......dont know why. Anyway thanks for another very interesting video. I love historical fashion.

    I love these videos. They really do give one an idea how one was to be dressed at which time frame. Very helpful for reenactments.

      It was either hat or another waltz. Not a lot of choice in the UA-cam audio library....
