    Hollis sure has an artistic side. Nice apiary. I hope that queen is OK. I thought I heard her grunt when you grabbed her like it knocked the wind out of her. I guess you're so used to those big heavy electrician gloves you use that the medical examination gloves you pulled out of the dumpster at the plasma center didn't offer enough resistance to your grip. Best of luck to her.

      I have to admit, although you do have some issues on queen spotting, I am always amazed how you can capture one in your watermelon hands without squeezing her eye balls out. Every time you grab a queen with those mitts of yours I'm expecting to see a grease smudge, but instead, it's a squirming queen. My hat's off to you on that account. God's peace brother.

    I do appreciate how you let us know those wires aren't going to shock you. And what charming hives from Hollis! I think that's the first time I've seen bees in such close yards to other homes; I think everyone is lucky no one apparently allergic lives next door!

    Nice looking queen there.
    Hollis doesn't play around, she jumped right in and grabbed that loaded deep like no problem. Seems to know her bees too.
    Regarding the demonstration hive, You need to add a buzzing sound just before the lid opens.... Maybe some warning signs on the box. Caution: live bees.. Bzzzz.....Boing!!

    Hey, Rebuild Ralph here! I'm a big fan of yours, Mr Ed 😁. I'm rooting for you to beat the DirtRooster's prodigious behind in swarm captures and any other contest he inadvisedly challenges you to. When I watch your cutout videos there's always a sense of drama as I wait with expectation of you finding the queen. Love the hearty "Praise Jesus". I trust him myself. I'm a first year beekeeper in Connecticut with 3 hives. So far so good. 3 "big-butted" girls layin' up a storm and the gals are just as sweet as you please (I suit up though). My goal is to get them through the winter. It's been a cold Spring but it's beginning to warm up. I just bought the GoPro and accessories and with the help of my friends daughter we'll have a UA-cam video shortly. I look forward to all your videos? Praise the Lord!!

    Beautiful fresh (flimsy) honeycomb. Couple pieces were causing that sticky drippy mess, all while not have a whole lot of clearance space to reach up in there. At least you had an extra pair of hands to help. Nicely done as always. The videos really don't display the level of difficulty these types of removals can be. Great work brother!! ✌️🐝🐝🐝

    • @JeffHorchoff

      If only the new comb could be salvageable after it's removed, it's always a shame not to be able to frame it up. I was glad I did not get to this job 4 months later, it would have been a hard one. As it was, we were in and out in less than a hour and a half. If only they all went that fast. You're right, DirtRooster does toss those full supers around without any gear on. But he has an advantage because he's a big man and can rest them on his belly for more support. And, since his T shirts are always too short, he gets the added adrenaline rush of the bees stinging him in the fromunda. It may be an endorphin dependency problem.

    I just did a similar cut out about 2 weeks ago. I managed to save about 1 and 1/2 frames of brood. I caught the queen, but for some reason she didn’t make it. I ended up putting a new queen in there and adding a frame of brood yesterday. We shall see how they turn out.

      For me, the best part of bee keeping is growing bees. I love watching the number of bees grow in the hives. When bees increase in numbers, that's when everything is fine, and you are almost assured a bountiful honey harvest. Plus, you can split the hives, and grow more bees. Two things. Did you shake a brood frame? I thought this was not to be done, for some reason???? Secondly, is there a particular reason why you did not in this case, give them back their comb, that which they had already drawn in the ceiling from which you took the bees? Thank you for your video. It is true that this lady had a very nice, tidy and neat apiary.

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  4 роки тому

      It is not a good idea to shake a frame of brood, but when it's necessary, it has to be done. The reason none of the comb was used was because it was so soft it could not have been framed up. Also, since it was leaking nectar everywhere, it would have been taken over by the beetles in no time. Hollis' apiary is really cool looking ......and neat. Living down south is another world to me. A lot of decisions are made because of local conditions, I am learning that being one of them. In this case would be heat and Beatles, two things which would not influence our decisions. I knew there had to be a reason behind it. Jeff does not strike me as a person who makes decisions without having thought them out.

      Bees are very specific as to the location of their hive, they have great GPS's and they know EXACTLY where to go. When it's time to wrangle bees, everyone is happy...even when the observation hive is brought out. God's peace brother.

    Hi Jeff, do you have a link to a place where I can get those rubber gloves you were wearing at the beginning of the video? Harbor Freight had something similar but I'm not sure they are the same as what you use.

      I got them from Amazon, and they are Wells Lamont PVC coated, lined gloves. I hope that helps, thanks for watching. God's peace JP.

    Can't remember what type of gloves you use when doing cutouts. Are they rubber or PVC with some kind of liner? Would you link to the ones you use please? Thank you!

      The ones I'm wearing are Wells Lamont PVC coated, lined, rubber gloves. I got them from Amazon and they are only about $8.00 a pair, I bought 2 pair. Thanks for watching. God's peace Sherry.

    I need your advice! My uncle has a hive in a rock column near his attic but not quite. He can't afford to pay a pro to remove them. What should he do? 😁

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  4 роки тому +1

      It sounds like he has to have a bee keeper do a trap out. My advice, contact his county agent and see if they can give you the name of a bee keeper who could preform this service. Many county agents have lists of names of bee keepers who do live bee hive removals. I wish your uncle and his bees all the best. Thanks for watching. God's peace Heidi.

    Hello Mr Ed, amei esse vídeo, e essa apicultora com essas caixas cheias de florzinha,muito bom esse método de caputura,mais me responde uma coisa ,não tem perigo das outras colmeias entra em conflito com essa colméia nova?Aguardo resposta.Que Deus abençoe seu trabalho. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

      Que belo apiário este apicultor, Hollis, tem. as caixas são brilhantes e bonitas. As colméias podem ser colocadas muito próximas umas das outras, pois cada abelha sabe a que colméia pertence, e não há necessidade de se preocupar com a briga entre si. Obrigado por sua bênção e por assistir. Irmão da paz de Deus.
