While Snape is the best duelist in the school, Flitwick actually duels in public. Remember when Ron and Harry agreed to duel Draco and Vincent? They agreed to standard dueling rules. Flitwick likely participated in public duels for honor and status. Likely without much, if any, dark magic.
I do like the idea Hagrid was in Slytherin and I think it makes a lot of sense, however I think it’s perfectly reasonable Tom Riddle would know his name regardless of house. You would definitely take notice of a half-giant third year student who was taller than you and probably learn his name

In reference to Tom riddle showing up in the chamber of secrets on the marauders map…it’s a moot point. Chamber of secrets wouldn’t be on the map. The map only contains the parts of the castle that the marauders discovered…which is a vast amount but I doubt it covered the chamber.
i think the gallion had magical capabilities where it couldn't be counterfeited or multiplied, the way goblins made them had deep magical abilities to only be finite and not multiplied without them making it.
I forget the name of it but one of the laws of magic is you can’t multiply valuable metals. The only reason they chose the things they did for the currency is because they cannot be multiplied
You'd just end up with worthless copies. Griphook says this regarding the multiplying "treasure" in the Lestrange vault due to the Gemino curse on the contents. A wizard could probably do it with Muggle money, but that's against the law, not to mention they'd get in trouble in the Muggle world if paper currency with the same serial numbers were spotted.
I feel that even if they could multiply or make the fake, it could also disappear. Like when Ludo Bagman paid the twins with leprechaun gold. Correct me if I'm wrong though

The one that is most suspect is Quirrell, because that is Tom Riddle prime, but he is just acting as a horcrux so I think the map would just see Quirrell.
I have a theory: what if dobby died from his own magic? In chapter 2 you mentioned how elves might be able to do an unbreakable vow type promise with other beings, and at the end of chamber of secrets, dobby promises Harry to never save his life again. If we skip forwards to deathly hallows, dobby dies shortly after saving Harry’s life. What if breaking the promise lead to his death?

Yaxley was just able to do this by grabbing onto Hermione’s sleeve. Is this another example of wizards overlooking how powerful elfs are? What if Harry summoned Kreacher? I think he could have been helpful.. but also a potential liability. Thank you both for putting the excitement of Harry Potter into everyone’s life. Didn't Yaxley grab Hermione when they were going through the MOM entrance/exit via Floo Powder? And what would Kreacher have done? Attack the Dark Lord he'd been praising since his introduction? Grant it, he had been in a better place with Harry after he told him the story of RAB. But still, I feel like Voldemort or his Death Eaters would have done something to him if he had just popped up next to Harry. Elf magic won't help much against an army of Dark Wizards. And also, Harry is supposed to die in the forest. Harry knew this. Even if he hated Kreacher, he wouldn't summon him and put him at risk of getting killed himself.
The requirement to show up on the map is being registered in the Hogwarts registry. That's how the map works. Student (former or otherwise), teachers, faculty. Yes, Peeves, Ghosts, and Mrs. Norris all count. Voldemort would not show up as I doubt his incomplete soul would "light up" his own Tom Riddle "file."
Day 2 of asking can you do a video where the Potters survived? The scenario I'll make up is when Voldemort breaks in, Instead of killing James, he tortures and used the paralyzing spell on him and makes him pass out and plans to finish him off later when Harry and Lily are dead because as Dumbledore said, he likes waiting for his enemies to beg for death before killing them. Upstairs with Lily, the same thing basically happens except Lily misses the curse and falls on the ground. Harry still gets the love protection and Voldemort still loses his body because Lily was prepared to sacrifice herself for Harry. We saw this in Deathly Hallows when Harry's protection from sacrificing himself stopped Voldemort from torturing Neville when he stood up, Even though Harry didn't die.
We got something like this in what if Neville was the chosen one. James died and lily was tortured into insanity. And it wouldn’t be possible for Harry to get the love protection of Lily doesn’t die, that’s sorta the only criteria for sacrificial love, u must sacrifice and die. In Deathly Hallows, Harry did die, he went to the forest and sacrificed himself to Voldemort which cast sacrificial love on everyone else. So no offense but ur idea is flawed bc sacrificial love requires a sacrifice, it would be against canon otherwise.
Harry was able to survive in the forest only because of Lilly's sacrificial protection in Voldemorts veins anchoring Harry to life (the love-crux). Lilly would only be able to cast sacrificial protection if she sacrificed herself knowing she couldnt survive. Even in the instance of Lilly having a horcrux the "sacrifice" of standing up to Voldemort wouldnt cast sacrificial protection because she would have known she had a way out. The only way Lilly could survive and Harry have protection would be if Voldy gave James the opportunity to stand aside. If he gave James the option to stand aside and James died to save Lilly and Harry, then Voldy stunned Lilly and attempted to kill Harry the pieces would be in place for Lilly to survive and still fulfil the prophecy. Unfortunately there is no way to fulfil the prophecy and have both parents survive.

I don't think the Horcruxes attached to living creatures would show up on the map because the living entity's soul would far "outweigh" the shattered bit of soul they have within, including Voldemort "prime" as his soul is very weak regardless of which bit you're considering. The soul bits within the items (cup, diadem, etc...) are, likely, basically un-plottable as a part of the magic that makes the "container" almost indestructible.
My thoughts were the finite incumtautum spell, being translates means finish the spell, just sped up the spell to it's completion not that it stopped it. The spells still take their course just at a much faster rate shortening their span
@lkhai6243 this doesn't change what I said, putting the spell on fast forward doesn't mean everything is put on fast forward if a fire is moving faster then it's ability to catch fire then it is just a passing heat and not a wild fire

I think there are more Wizarding schools in the UK. They say hogwarts is the most famous, prestigious and the largest but I don't think they ever say it's the ONLY one. I think there are more wizards than just those who went to hogwarts
So I think in the extra book "Quidditch through the ages" it SPECIFIES that u can only score through ONE hoop. IE you're not allowed to score from behind the keeper. I assume its like soccer where behind the goalie is out of bounds.
So I think its mentioned that Crookshanks DOES appear on the map (I believe book 3) and it might be the naming of an animal that gives it a "soul" per say (I know its still debated on whether or not animals have souls) and that's why Crookshanks does appear on the map but the ants and spiders in teh castle don't unless someone adopts a pet spider or ant and names it.

I’m not sure if a snake could actually bite someone’s head off. Their teeth are basically fishhooks designed to hold onto prey and help move it down their throats. They don’t chew their food just swallow it whole.
All bathroom waste being vanished in the early days of Hogwarts is crazy. Vanishing is a 5th year charm, so more than half the student body would be incapable of doing this, which makes me wonder if this used to be a prefect duty.
Mrs. Norris shows up on the Map BECAUSE that's what the Marauders intended. She's part of Flich's ability to seek out mischief. The Diadem would have shown up, if it wasn't in the Room of Requirement. The Map only shows places the Marauders had access to, or knowledge of in case of the Gryfindor Girl's Dorms. It couldn't show the interior of any common room aside from Gryfindor for that reason, UNLESS the Marauders has snuck into those rooms themselves. Had that not been the case, then the Trio would have known the exact location of the Slytherin Common Room Entrance, and only had to wait for someone else to enter.
so personally I always went with the assumption that Snape IS NOT a known Death Eater (such as the Carrows or Lucius Malfoy is) and Dumbeldore blackmails him saying "I'll reveal the fact that you're a Death Eater" if u don't cooperate with my desires. This explains why Snape agrees to participate in the dueling club and why he agrees to not turn Black in and Teach Harry occlumency etc.
Diary Tom would show up, if they weren't in the chamber, as the Marauders never entered, or knew about that place. Voldemort Prime inside Quirrel should have shown up, because Quirrel was being possessed, and isn't an actual horcrux. Normal Horcruxes won't show up, because of the protective magics placed upon the physical items.
Hey! Just wondering, we know Lockhart is great at memory charms. Is it possible that he performed minor versions of this charm on people? For example Hermione. Like, it never made sense to me how Hermione just let everything he did pass, especially since she is super smart.
All the girls including hermione were charmed by Lockhart and didn’t realize he was a fraud. It’s like when u first start liking someone u don’t see any of their flaws. If ur charmed by someone u won’t see their shortcomings.

They recruited Slughorn two weeks into the summer holiday. That was the shortest amount of time Harry ever spent at the Dursley‘s.

Dumbledore does know that Tom Riddle can speak to snakes. Tom told him at the orphanage when they first met.

Voldemort would not show up as I doubt his incomplete soul would "light up" his own Tom Riddle "file."
Day 2 of asking can you do a video where the Potters survived? The scenario I'll make up is when Voldemort breaks in, Instead of killing James, he tortures and used the paralyzing spell on him and makes him pass out and plans to finish him off later when Harry and Lily are dead because as Dumbledore said, he likes waiting for his enemies to beg for death before killing them. Upstairs with Lily, the same thing basically happens except Lily misses the curse and falls on the ground. Harry still gets the love protection and Voldemort still loses his body because Lily was prepared to sacrifice herself for Harry. We saw this in Deathly Hallows when Harry's protection from sacrificing himself stopped Voldemort from torturing Neville when he stood up, Even though Harry didn't die.
We got something like this in what if Neville was the chosen one. James died and lily was tortured into insanity. And it wouldn’t be possible for Harry to get the love protection of Lily doesn’t die, that’s sorta the only criteria for sacrificial love, u must sacrifice and die. In Deathly Hallows, Harry did die, he went to the forest and sacrificed himself to Voldemort which cast sacrificial love on everyone else. So no offense but ur idea is flawed bc sacrificial love requires a sacrifice, it would be against canon otherwise.
Harry was able to survive in the forest only because of Lilly's sacrificial protection in Voldemorts veins anchoring Harry to life (the love-crux). Lilly would only be able to cast sacrificial protection if she sacrificed herself knowing she couldnt survive. Even in the instance of Lilly having a horcrux the "sacrifice" of standing up to Voldemort wouldnt cast sacrificial protection because she would have known she had a way out. The only way Lilly could survive and Harry have protection would be if Voldy gave James the opportunity to stand aside. If he gave James the option to stand aside and James died to save Lilly and Harry, then Voldy stunned Lilly and attempted to kill Harry the pieces would be in place for Lilly to survive and still fulfil the prophecy. Unfortunately there is no way to fulfil the prophecy and have both parents survive.
@@JessicaClark-lq4gw that is an idea tho, what if James cast the sacrificial love and Lilly and Harry lived, well I mean I guess not a lot would really change, Harry would still be famous but I think he would still be pretty humble, and he would still probably become friends with with Ron, but the only real difference would be he would go home for Christmas which would probably mean he doesn't figure out the mirror in his first year, but I don't think that would really change anything because quirrell would still attack him and still get burned by Harry's touch
@johnhostetler2167 i mean if you subscribe to "Dumbledores big plan" then im sure Lilly would be in on it as much as the Weasley parents usually are so im sure that 1. Harry and Ron probably would have known each other since infancy. 2. Lilly would have (on Dumbledores orders) found a reason for Harry to stay at Hogwarts or Dumbledore would have devised another way to get Harry in front of the mirror. He would have liked to duel his bully one on one, he sees Harry in the same light as James (essentially seeing him as the same kind of bully James was) and is offering Draco the chance to "fight back" (seeing himself in Draco).
My theory is that slytherins are mostly shunned by all the other houses and that they are subject to prejudice by even the teachers, so Snape goes out of his way to give them preferential treatment wherever he can, to kind of balance it out...
I would argue that a ”normal” horocux would show up but voldemorts horocruxes are 1/7-1/8th of a soul so they are too weak to show up 😅 that is if you think that the map reacts to soules
I don't think the Horcruxes attached to living creatures would show up on the map because the living entity's soul would far "outweigh" the shattered bit of soul they have within, including Voldemort "prime" as his soul is very weak regardless of which bit you're considering. The soul bits within the items (cup, diadem, etc...) are, likely, basically un-plottable as a part of the magic that makes the "container" almost indestructible.
My thoughts were the finite incumtautum spell, being translates means finish the spell, just sped up the spell to it's completion not that it stopped it. The spells still take their course just at a much faster rate shortening their span
But in fantastic beasts, they use it to prevent the fire from destroying the whole of Paris
@lkhai6243 this doesn't change what I said, putting the spell on fast forward doesn't mean everything is put on fast forward if a fire is moving faster then it's ability to catch fire then it is just a passing heat and not a wild fire

I would say the whole crooks is don’t show up on the map because they are too small for the magic to recognise which would also qualify white ants and spiders and so won’t do not turn up on the map. I think it’s all about size of the soul

I think there are more Wizarding schools in the UK. They say hogwarts is the most famous, prestigious and the largest but I don't think they ever say it's the ONLY one. I think there are more wizards than just those who went to hogwarts

So I think its mentioned that Crookshanks DOES appear on the map (I believe book 3) and it might be the naming of an animal that gives it a "soul" per say (I know its still debated on whether or not animals have souls) and that's why Crookshanks does appear on the map but the ants and spiders in teh castle don't unless someone adopts a pet spider or ant and names it.

I’m not sure if a snake could actually bite someone’s head off. Their teeth are basically fishhooks designed to hold onto prey and help move it down their throats. They don’t chew their food just swallow it whole.
All bathroom waste being vanished in the early days of Hogwarts is crazy. Vanishing is a 5th year charm, so more than half the student body would be incapable of doing this, which makes me wonder if this used to be a prefect duty.

Mrs. Norris shows up on the Map BECAUSE that's what the Marauders intended. She's part of Flich's ability to seek out mischief. The Diadem would have shown up, if it wasn't in the Room of Requirement. The Map only shows places the Marauders had access to, or knowledge of in case of the Gryfindor Girl's Dorms. It couldn't show the interior of any common room aside from Gryfindor for that reason, UNLESS the Marauders has snuck into those rooms themselves. Had that not been the case, then the Trio would have known the exact location of the Slytherin Common Room Entrance, and only had to wait for someone else to enter.
so personally I always went with the assumption that Snape IS NOT a known Death Eater (such as the Carrows or Lucius Malfoy is) and Dumbeldore blackmails him saying "I'll reveal the fact that you're a Death Eater" if u don't cooperate with my desires. This explains why Snape agrees to participate in the dueling club and why he agrees to not turn Black in and Teach Harry occlumency etc.

Diary Tom would show up, if they weren't in the chamber, as the Marauders never entered, or knew about that place. Voldemort Prime inside Quirrel should have shown up, because Quirrel was being possessed, and isn't an actual horcrux. Normal Horcruxes won't show up, because of the protective magics placed upon the physical items.
Hey! Just wondering, we know Lockhart is great at memory charms. Is it possible that he performed minor versions of this charm on people? For example Hermione. Like, it never made sense to me how Hermione just let everything he did pass, especially since she is super smart.
All the girls including hermione were charmed by Lockhart and didn’t realize he was a fraud. It’s like when u first start liking someone u don’t see any of their flaws. If ur charmed by someone u won’t see their shortcomings.

I missed this when I saw the original single for chapter 12, but maybe wizards like mystery, and/or maybe there are some things that are better left unknown. For the founding of the school, if there was a reason that the date it was founded to be kept secret, the hat surely wouldn't be able to tell anyone.
But going back to the last book, most wizards haven't got an ounce of logic.why would they ask questions to find things out in a simple way?
