    Thank you for the information. How would you deal with wind loads on a tilted roof (reverse tilt) using this method you showed based on the codes?

    Excellent presentation. Thank you Mr. Ghosh.
    Could you please clarify as to why while applying windload in the -X direction, you have considered this as an Open Structure?

    • @surojit_ghosh
      @surojit_ghosh  Рік тому

      As there is no cladding element present in this direction (like the panel or any other external membrane which can resist wind movement), so wind can flow through and directly applied on the members. That's why it is considered as open structure.

    Thank you for the video Mr. Surojit.
    Can you please explain:
    1. how did you model solar panels and clamps in STAAD?

    • @surojit_ghosh
      @surojit_ghosh  2 роки тому

      Normally it is not required to model the panels along with mounting structure and based on the panel specification, we apply all loads directly on the supporting members. But for some specific structures, modelling of panel is required to consider the stiffness and apply loads properly (eg. wind load). In such case, it is better to model it using finite element mesh as the panels behave more like a flexible diaphragm rather than a rigid diaphragm. I have used FEM to model the panels in my structure.
      I normally don't model any clamp and design it separately using member end forces. If you want, you can use short members to model the clamps, but ensure proper connection with other part of the structure (direct or indirect connection).

    Sir as per table 8 the resultant of the pressure should be at 0.3w from the windward edge you haven’t taken this condition into account. Can you explain how to make the resultant of pressure at 0.3w

    Thank you very much Surojitji. Could you please help me with two queries: 1. What is the difference between using a seed file v/s just copying an old file? 2. Could you please share an example of using OpenSTAAD with Python?

    • @surojit_ghosh
      @surojit_ghosh  3 роки тому +3

      1. There are not much differences between copy the data directly from the old file and copy data using seed file. During traditional copy paste method, you need to sort the data from the input file, then copy the required portion each time and paste it in the new model. If you use seed file option, you can save the data once -that you want to import in new model, categorize your seed files properly and you can always use those seed files during new model generation without even opening the old model or copying the data manually - this is one of the major benefit of seed file.
      2. You can get plenty of information from Bentley Communities site (check this link -- communities.bentley.com/products/ram-staad/w/structural_analysis_and_design__wiki/42906/openstaad-and-python), also check the forum page for sample codes and discussions.

    Solar panels are made from glass so how do you account it in your design?

    • @surojit_ghosh
      @surojit_ghosh  Рік тому

      Normally for structural analysis and design, glass stiffness is not considered, only load coming from those panels are considered. But if you also want to consider stiffness, you can model it using FEM, create a new material with glass properties and assign it to the plate elements with proper thickness.

    And what is the design parameter for calculate to them?

    • @surojit_ghosh

      We can define composite beam and deck in STAAD for analysis but there is no option to design that. Composite deck design is possible using RAM Structural System. I will cover this later in details.

    Hello, Is it possible to design the solar structure foundation using STAAD Pro ?

    • @surojit_ghosh
      @surojit_ghosh  2 роки тому

      Yes Arjun, after analysis, you can use the integrated "Foundation Design" module to design the foundations. It is a part of STAAD.Pro and all information required for foundation design, like support reactions, column location, dimension and orientation etc. are transferred to this module and you can design required type of foundation directly in this module by providing soil data. Also if you design isolated, combined (strip) or pile cap foundation, you don't need any additional license, these are covered under the basic STAAD license.

      @@surojit_ghosh sir, Agreed. Could you please extend the tutorial case you took for the solar structure and show the procedure to transfer the reaction loads for design of foundation. Majority of it is done manually using IS 2911 right now.
