    After 30 long years of fence sitting, I have finally decided I'm ready to give back to myself ( after raising a family) and focus on what Ive always wanted to do. I sat down and opened up a brand new pattern, after reading 📚 and flipping, my brain was fried. My light bulb moment , let's surf UA-cam. And boom 💥. Here I am. Lol I’m self taught and I can’t even tell you how long I struggled with figuring out which side was the right vs wrong since my primary fabric is a solid black interlock knit lol literally sat there staring at it under different lighting to figure it out til I finally just picked one. This video confirmed my choice was correct this whole time so bettt thank you!

      My suggestion, do the easiest project to boost your confidence with the sewing machine - I know that sometimes people want to jump roght into making pants or something hard because they have so many ideas... but trust me starting hard will only frustrate you. Take it easy at first. Best of luck!!

      Hi Frank, the machine I have in the background is a serger (not a coverstotch machine), the green juki is a straight stitch only, so it is the same as the one I use in my machine sewing tutorials (but just a newer version 😉). Thanks again for your comment and interesting.

      Thanks for your quick response! Sorry I’m only just replying!
      I know the basics of sewing but have recently invested in a rotary cutter and while looking for tips on using it properly I saw your video and thought it looked interesting! The whole warp, weft and bias ‘thing’ has always confused me but I get that it’s important. I just felt like you could have explained about the selvedge (it’s purpose) and it’s importance and also some close-up shots when you were explaining about warp, weft and bias, so we could see the grain of the fabric and understand it more. Also when you placed the pieces some close-up shots to show the grain of the material would’ve been really helpful. And then maybe a demo to explain why it’s important to cut the fabric correctly (with the grain) and show an incorrectly cut piece to demonstrate why it’s important too.
      When you were straightening the fibres a close up shot to show them crooked would also have helped 😊 as I couldn’t really understand what you meant🤔
      I feel bad writing a negative comment as you are obviously very knowledgeable and it’s very generous of you and I thank you for sharing your skills here😊 but teaching and passing on your knowledge is sometimes about stating the obvious for those in the class that don’t know it yet!😂
      🙋🏻‍♀️That’s me Miss! 🤣
      As it was listed for the ‘absolute beginner sewist’ I felt at times it was a bit advanced and you expected us to know some stuff already 😳
      Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I’m going to watch your cutting video next as I like your presenting style and I hope I can pick up some tips🙏🤞🏼
      Take care. 🌹

    Need more visual on how to cut material with animal print, the grain line. Can I start with the first video. I'm a beginner
    Thanks

    • @LTRLTrendFashnGuru
      @LTRLTrendFashnGuru  4 роки тому

      In terms of prints, it would depend on how big the print pattern is - if the print is big, than you may want to consider matching the print. If it is a fairly small print, than matching wouldn't be relavant because it would be a very difficult task (so I dont auggest trying - lol). The grainline as mentioned in this video follows (runs parallel to) the selvage edge... and you can find the selvage edge by the indicators in this video. Not sure qhat "first" video you are referring to? But yes, my video playlist does start at the rhetorical beginning of what you will need in your sewing kit followed by sewing machine basics. Hope that helps - Happy sewing!

      @@berthagonzalesmelendez5945 okay, no problem - check this link for the first video if you want to learn more about what to have in your sewing kit ua-cam.com/video/YXq5h1Wsnw8/v-deo.html! As for the animal jungle print (considering I have no idea how big/small the print is and it is hard to give such advice without seeing the print), my suggestion would be to do your best in matching the repeat - but, as mentioned, of it is a small print (and too crazy to make out the print repeat) than just cut as per usual according to your pattern instructions. You may also want to check iut my "Cut it Out" video here: ua-cam.com/video/VBJtv1YVDfc/v-deo.html

    What should you do before cutting out your pattern pieces ? What type of fabric requires bigger seams ?

    • @LTRLTrendFashnGuru
      @LTRLTrendFashnGuru  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Paula, Before cutting out your fabric you must make sure to pre-wash your fabric -- ua-cam.com/video/7n8yD866j3Y/v-deo.html
      This video mentions how to lay out your fabric (depending on what the content is)... if your fabric is skewed, I show you how to striaghten the grainline. In order to cut, watch this video ua-cam.com/video/VBJtv1YVDfc/v-deo.html
      No specific fabric "requires" larger seam allowance; however, if you are making a skirt for example, you may want to make your center back seam 1" - 1 1/4" to make sure you can take it out if you want. Same goes for dresses and pants - for dresses you can add 1" to the side seams (2" total) and pants you can add 1" to CB as long as you taper this measurement to the crotch (to the regular SA of 1/2"). Hope that helps!?! Thanks for watching 🥰
