Beautiful place ~ have a great set!!
Thank you for today’s visit and the early moments of Brad’s playing in a near empty lobby of a classic theater; it was the tonic I could use after these last few days. The near closing of this classic theater in 1997 to ‘develop’ a parking lot would have been another obscene gesture of post modern sensibility. “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot”, Joni Mitchell’s ‘Big Yellow Taxi’.

What a beautiful..stunning theater nicely done in Art Deco .And Brad is blowing away..you cannot have a video without him..love his positive attitude and beautiful smile. Have a great time tonight Leland Sklar..stay safe be safe Leland Sklar Peace ✌️ 🙏 ✌️ 🙏 ☮️ !!!!!
One of my favorites that you filmed and shared with us family family family almost got me choked up especially with what I have going on right now I felt like perfect timing watching tonight
👍👍 At the moment our meal space is running behind our Sklar videos (no complaints) so we just started this one and are only a few minutes in. That's amazing that you could look out and see where your parents had been. I remember you mentioning that they had retired to Mexico and then come back, but I'm not sure you've ever mentioned Spokane.
@@tobisimmons9889 All the best for a swift recovery, Tobi... 🛏 ☮️🙏🌟
Tobi, I hope you are doing well. I gather from the live stream that things have been arduous but I am out of the loop so I don't know anything more than that. I want to apologize for my comment showing up here, it was supposed to be a comment in the general stream. In any case, I hope that you are feeling and doing well!
I don't know what's happening but sending a hugs to you Tobi.
YOU are so kind, Lee...
This is like movie 🎉. Bless you, Lee.
Have a wonderful time with your family 🎉!
I love Brad he makes me smile helps yhe healing😅😊
the probability of ever visiting the US is somewhere around zero and therefore i am very thankful for letting me see a good part of your beautiful home country. thanks so much. 🙏
Startled Brad never gets old!
We are so lucky to have this theater here. I love attending shows at this theater. So beautiful.
Thank you for the behind the scenes tour and the history lesson.
You startling Brad is quickly becoming my favorite part of your videos. 😂

Originally built in 1931 as a 2300-seat movie theater, Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox was fully renovated and reopened in November of 2007 and now seats approximately 1600 and serves as a mid-sized performance venue in the heart of the city. It is owned and operated by the Spokane Symphony and is the home of several other local performing arts organizations.
Mechanical, plumbing, electrical and ADA upgrades were essential to the Theater’s new use as a performing arts venue. By reconfiguring the retail space that once ringed the building, the Theater gained much-needed space for additional dressing rooms, a staging area for catering, ticket office, storage, and an expanded lobby.
One of the Theater’s most stunning features is its intricate art deco wall murals and ceiling.
Years of accumulated cigarette smoke and popcorn grease had obscured the original vibrant colors of the decorative painting throughout the Theater. In addition, many of the murals had been covered with red paint during an attempt to modernize the color scheme at some time in the recent past. Restoration of these priceless Art Deco murals was accomplished with the help of a Save America’s Treasures grant.
The original hand-painted fire curtain was discovered in the Theater, and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts aided in cleaning and restoring this magnificent piece of art.
The Fox Theater restoration process was captured in documentary from courtesy of KSPS. To watch “Spokane’s 21st Century Fox” Spokane’s 21st Century Fox Theater.
Thank you Mark! 😊
Thanks, Mark
👍👍👍👍. Not too often that you hear about popcorn grease-- or Rose Marie as a child star (I guess that's why she kept the black bow in her hair).

Thank you Mark, the Art Deco was great and it astonishes me that people were going to replace it with a parking lot.
What a beautiful venue Lee. Thanks again. So glad you get to see your Sister.
"A fig newton of your imagination"... LOL... I remember reading that in a Bugs Bunny comic book back in the 50's... Love your interactions.
These videos are AMAZING!!!! I have gone back to watch them over and over because they’re so wonderful. Lee sharing parts of his life with all of us. Feels like we are all part of a beautiful family.
The vid where he showed the open with Shawn Colvin and KT Tun. was AMAZING …. Lyle coming out to duet with Shawn on Diamond in the Rough … just so wonderful. Love getting to see these gorgeous venues and all the artwork that is everywhere. Getting a sense of all these different parts of the country and what it’s like to be a road touring artist … all the people and hard work that goes into it. Just amazing.
Happy birthday, Linda ❤
Yep. ❤😊
My first time in Spokane's beautiful art deco Fox Theater was amazing. What a great show you guys put on tonight. The sound was excellent. I could hear every musican clearly and distinctly. I was happy to see you Lee and thanks for signing my copy of your book. Enjoy the rest of your tour. A really wonderful evening , we'll worth the more than 200 mile round trip from Moscow.😊❤
Leland Sklar. The most famous musician you've never heard of. But a master of the bass whose been featured on more albums than almost anyone else. I live in Spokane & the Martin Woldson Theater is one of the most beautiful you've ever seen!
Love all your playing, & now your videos! Sorry to miss this 1; play on! 🎉

Has Brad ever thought of inviting you to go to Denton to guest lecture to his classes? You would be an amazing resource for him and his kids.
We are talking about it.
@@lelandsklar6363 I know if I was a music student at UNT I wouldn't miss it for anything. It's has always bothered me when musicians who retire - not you necessarily - and there aren't universities clamoring to grab them up. Linda Ronstadt teaching voice? Amazing! Keith Emerson could have taught all kinds of aspects of performance, piano, etc. when he could no longer play. It still bothers me that he killed himself. I'm glad you're considering it.
I wish I could have been there...I'm over by Stateline in L.L.! Welcome back to Spokane! Loved the Brad surprise...one of your best ones yet! ❤

Thank you for taking a moment out of your busy schedule to give me a Sklar One Finger Salute! It was awesome to see you in person. I’m the guy who tapped on the window after you got done pre signing your book. Super cool your sister made the show and your connection to Spokane.
This will always be the best.........The road brothers from another mother getting good laughs together!!!!! Where's Brad always delivers!!!!!!
Ah, Spokane and family/music history. Remember walking through the Spokane World's Fair Expo with my Dad when I was an ovum (😁) and watching a young woman (not Judy Collins) playing guitar and singing "Who Knows Where the Time Goes." Thrilling. Still remember it.
Your memory was post ovum. An ovum needs a sperm to unite in one of the fallopian tubes to form a zygote. Then the zygote travels down the fallopian tube, where it becomes a morula. Once it reaches the uterus, the morula becomes a blastocyst. The blastocyst then burrows into the uterine wall - a process called implantation. Without that union your memory was premature. 😉
@@artemisXsidecross Shhhhhhhh!!!!!!! And that m word you used, was that an alliteration thing? A tad too close to "moron.". Shhhhhhh!!!!!!

I have always been amazed that the largest human cell in the human body is an ovum; by writing it you tripped me out ☮

Everything is beautiful. Tons of monied people, filling beautiful venues, to see storied artists, lining the pockets of Live Nation.
Beautiful theatre. So important to preserve these old venues. 😊
What a great venue! At least in terms of inside the hall itself, the important part, this place might be the best of the places I have seen in the videos of this tour. Just beautiful, great vibe, and it looks like there might not be a bad seat in the house! What a great place for either playing or going to hear a show. Way better than that winery. You said you had played that place many times and loved it, but at least on video, it seemed a little odd. I would say that people in Spokane are very fortunate to have such a place. God, what a tragedy it would have been if it had been torn down (especially for a PARKING LOT.... GAH!).
Spokane is where I am. You're at a beautiful place. I wish I could come tonight.
Lee, thanks again for a tour of a spectacular venue! Each one you visit seems to top the last. I wonder if there are architects and designers today that can come close to these old theatres.
You were in my town! In downtown. Hope you enjoyed the town. I’m glad you enjoyed the theater. :) I remember when it was the fox theater and only showed movies.
Wow great vid Leland-super cool-I’ve only been there once for Buddy Guy and Eric Gales you sure point out the beauty of the place.
Thanks Lee!!!!!
Watched you last night at Chateau St. Michelle. It was a super fun evening!
That promo photo for the large band is a good one!
Beautiful venue. Good morning
You know we always see all the equipment set up and ready to go, but we don't see them setting it up. I'd love to see them setting up the desk and pa 'n' stuff, see how it all works and gets wired up. Cheers Lee !
Thank you for a fantastic show. You have been one of my favorite bas players for many years!
Ah Spokane, my old hometown. you almost made it look good!

In your defense he should not have taken that seat with his back to the opening. 😏 nice, just sitting calmly near him. 🤫 and just go ehm. 😁
I wish you a happy reunion with your siblings. Also very nice that you got to see your parents home.
Greetings sir.
Did I just see a DOUBLE windmill Leland salute from the stage????
I love these moments that you share. Spokane is a special little place, that’s for sure.
On the evening of September 3, 1931, searchlights roamed the sky and the streets were jammed with 30,000 people celebrating Spokane’s Golden Jubilee and the grand opening of the Theater.
Celebrities and movie stars greeted the crowd from the roof of the Theater before watching the world premiere of Merely Mary Ann on the big screen. Charles Farrell and Janet Gaynor, stars of the film, were on hand, as were Anita Page, Will Rogers, and child star Rosemarie.
Built during the dark days of the Depression by Fox West Coast Theaters at a price of $1,000,000, the Theater was the largest in Spokane, at 2300 seats. Architect Robert Reamer, famous for his design of Yellowstone National Park’s Old Faithful Inn, designed the Theater in the exuberant and modernistic Art Deco style.
Because the Theater was constructed during the transition between vaudeville and silent movies and the “talkies,” the Theater was equipped with a full-height stage house, orchestra pit, and dressing rooms to accommodate a range of movies and live performances.
The Theater featured the most advanced movie technology of the day and was the first air-conditioned building in Spokane. The Theater was very proud of this distinction and had picture windows installed that overlooked the mechanical room so that passersby on the street could marvel at the oversized equipment.
The Theater is constructed of concrete and employs a sleek modernity, while the flat surfaces and lack of ornamentation provide graceful simplicity. The local newspaper described the building as “the last word in beauty and efficiency.” Inside the Theater, fantastic murals created by Anthony Heinsbergen evolve from underwater floral patterns at the lobby level to landscapes of castles, rivers, and clouds on the mezzanine, culminating with a magnificent 60-foot wide sunburst that dominates the auditorium. Sunlight radiates across the ceiling and falls on a canopy of foliage representative of a forest under a starlit sky.
During its heyday, the Theater was the largest in Spokane, and besides its use as a movie theater, played host to countless stage performances, including Katharine Hepburn, in As You Like It, as well as Marian Anderson, Bing Crosby, and Frank Sinatra.
The Community Concerts subscription series brought performers such as Paderewski, Vladimir Horowitz, and Lily Pons to the stage.
From 1968-1974, the Spokane Symphony performed in the Theater as their principal venue, often rehearsing before the Sunday matinee began.
It was definitely the “Place to Go” for many years, but by the 1970s audiences had begun to move to the suburban movie theaters, and the Theater began a period of decline. In 1975, the balcony was divided into two small theaters, and the Theater became a triplex and entered a period of budget and second-run movies for the next twenty-five years. By 2000, the Theater, after being continuously open for nearly 70 years, was slated for demolition to make way for a parking lot.
Hello Bradley, we just adore you…

Brad doesn't give AF about anything but playing the sax, I don't think I have seen him more than 5 feet away from his instrument at any random filming. He would be just as content playing out on the street corner as long as he has some good reeds
I don't want to inflate your ego Mr Sklar ,but you must be a regular riot as a band mate and pal to others on tour ? Your sense of humour , your patter ,your quick witted retorts and just being there as the life and soul of the party , has to be good times for the members and crew ? In other words ..as the Irish would say ," the craic is good " ! It's always best to have fun at your work ...at the very least your shift goes by much quicker ....highly , highly enjoyable .
IRL Brad getting more pissed off by the day
Wow, sounds like you juuuuussst missed your sister out on the sidewalk!
The work into that theatre is quite a bit!!!!
Leland did you Play at Peace Sunday 1982 at the Rose Bowl?
Randy Schiffer asked me to tell all of you that he is doing OK, and he will be back in a while, after being w/o electricity for a week.
Some folks have generator backup?
Thanks for letting us know. Isn't Texas known for the climate change denial thing?
Yes, I heard from Randy Schiffer as well and he has only had power since I think Saturday. This was a systemic failure of PowerPoint Energy's Executive and Administration leadership and not a sign of the good labor done by the repair section of the utility.
@@kateconway-hickman5945
Power was out for over 7 days and of this day 260,000 residential properties do expect power until Wednesday, 7/17/24. Back up generators without power to replenish fuel from fuel storage facilities were also a problem,. This was a systemic problem of the executive and administrative leaders of PowerPoint Energy and not the labor and work crews who have made repairs.

It does not mater if it were Biden, Trump, or anyone else, this was a failure of the Secret Service and HomeLand Security to do their assigned task.
