Up until that point in time Aemond and Aegon II had not killed even 1 person - Rhaenys just casually murders over 100 innocent civillians for no reason whatsoever - Objectively the blacks are the bad guys at this point of Show Fanfiction.
Rhaenys escaped on her dragon because she knew the Hightowers would almost certainly never let her(and definitely would not let her dragon) leave Kings Landing alive. Should she have let her dragon and herself get slaughtered? How would you propose she escape, with a dragon, where hundreds of people wouldn't get killed. It also served a strategic purpose. Who in that room was even thinking of Rhaenyra? The true heir of King Viserys? As Stannis once said "if I do not press my claim, my claim will be forgotten." Everyone forgot her claim in that moment

The actor playing Aegon, Tom Glynn-Carney, has stated in an interview that he views Aegon as a much more complex beast than Joffrey and this scene is a testament to his statement. We see this boy go from a reluctant, irresponsible, imbecile prince to someone who wholeheartedly embraces his new position as the crown i.e power provided him what he had craved all along; acceptance, appreciation and love. That transition is beautifully conveyed by the incredible actor and this music! Thank you for putting it out here 💖
It's just a shame that they had to make him a rapist psycho in order to do that.

This. 💯 I honestly felt kind of sorry for him and also in the book. Still couldn't stand him, but I still sympathize with him, considered he was manipulated into becoming king and in the show's case, outright forced. But power corrupts absolutely and he was already doing some awful things. Joffrey, on the other hand, was just a straight up psycho.
@Ali Chaudhry Absolutely agree. Aegon is def apathetic and also searching for validation, because he never received it at home. Joffrey was just straight up cruel for funzies. Great actors on both parts. Jack Gleason is a gem in real life. So opposite of Joffrey. Tom seems really cool too.

The transition from Alicent's theme into layers of Targaryen music, the royal fanfare, and even hints of Larys... what an incredible piece. Full of both triumph and accomplishment as well as tension and foreboding for what is to come.

Rhenerya in the afterlife: don't laugh your next
Aegon II is starting to become a more and more complex character. One minute he didn't want anything to do with the Iron Throne then the next he was like he's been waiting for that moment for 100 thousand years lol. This will make his character more interesting going into season 2 coz we won't be able to predict his moves.
All this time he thought no one besides his mother wanted him on the throne, but when he saw all the people cheering he was like HELL YEAH I KNEW IT!
The way his face slowly changed as he realized that the crowd was finally giving him the love and validation that he's always wanted from his parents, or really from ANYONE in his life... incredible. In a few moments he went from "I'm not fit to be King" to "I am never letting this go".
The actors for Aemond and Aegon are both doing such good fucking work giving nuanced, compelling performances to characters who could easily come off as purely hate-worthy in the wrong actor's hands.

After second season he and Viserys are both my favorite characters. Rhaenyra has 3 times the screen time Aegon had and yet he was the MVP of the season.

In S3 they we will probably meet Alicent youngest son Daeron who is squire in Oldtown and was cutted form S1 S2 for some reasons, probably posibility that actor will outgrown age of character or something. He is the most normal of the Green crew, the good guy and also dragonrider.

The sword crossing, the tapestry, proud Otto enjoying his life’s work, the veiled & somber Queen kissing his forehead, the Septons marking his forehead, the King bowing to the Seven as he is only accountable to god, everyone in turn bowing to the king. "All Hail His Grace...King of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men"...finally justice done to the proclamation of a new Absolute Monarch in GoT. The detail of them saying "Aegon the King" right after so the smallfolk can understand. Perfection! It felt like an orthodox crowning ceremony from Tsarist Russia. The actor did an amazing job too.
Tom absolutely killed it here! Hard to believe the only thing we've seen of argubaly the most important character of the show until now is them hammering in that he's a sexual deviant, ffs. There's so much more depth to Aegon and finally we get a tiny glimpse of it. King Aegon's two defining traits : depression and resentment. Depression ...the way he tells Aemond "let me find a ship and sail away" at that moment I can't help but feel bad for him. Resentment...when he asks his mother "do you love me". The childhood neglect, the burden of expectation being the king's firstborn son, the validation he always craved from his father and never got that shattered his self esteem, and finally the roar of the crowd serving to feel that void. Tom's acting during the coronation...the changing facial reactions and body language to the adulation of the crowd was unreal! Hoping to see them go in this direction for King Aegon in the next season!

Initially Aegon looked like such a one dimensional stupid character that amongst the greens all focus stayed on Aemond, but after this scene he became such an intriguing character and a lot of credit for that goes to the actor. His expressions alone established the fact that Aegon is going to be just as complex a character as Aemond, if not more.

Aegon II reminds a lot of book Tyrion in some ways both of them just want to feel loved and recognized, both have terrible behavior towards women, both have problems with alcohol, both have fathers that didn't love them and both fight bravely in battle despite not being as skilled as their warrior brothers.

Its like Alicents Green Dress theme but expanded upon, heavier and grand, but still proud and dangerous. I swear, the music makes me go team Green more and more 😅💚
I even felt a glimmer of sympathy for Aegon here. He is clearly fucked up by his fathers gross neglect on one side, and Alicents and Ottos ambitions for him on the other. Viserys really failed to show any attention and love to him or his siblings. You can tell that the crowd cheering is the only time he got any admiration in his life.
He is a filthy little asshole, but he is no Joffrey. I think we might see some good changes now that he sees he could actually be respected as a King.
I think this theme will be the official "Greens" theme. it's definitely my favorite soundtrack and yeah, makes me want to go team Green more and more.

@Alex He's every bit as awful as Joffrey. He's a rapist and has children, even his bastard children, file their nails and teeth to engage in gruesome cock fighting style fights for entertainment. We had 4 seasons to witness Joffrey's evil vs 1 season of Aegon's, and Aegon's evil doings were only mentioned by 2nd and 3rd persons, not witnessed by viewers like Joffrey's. That's probably why Aegon doesn't seem as evil as Joffrey.
Also, Viserys fell short with Rhaenyra as well. He seemed to have been remissed in his duties in educating Rhaenyra as heir. Passing on the prophecy was the only information he seem to give her. No political or diplomatic education as evidence by how she conducted herself when screening for marriage, and her children. No discretion by her, only immature contempt. Both her poor and damaging actions were saved by Viserys (still not exempt from some repercussions, some pending). But now he's gone and the major fallout begins. At least she has Daemon, Rhaenys, and hopefully Lord Commander Westerling, with their wisdom and skills, as her councillors.
@@graceandfaith1046 I would agree on almost all of your points ( especially about Viserys Rhaenyra relationship, altho I loved Viserys as a character and he was kind and loving in a lot of ways, he was a deeply flawed man in many other ways ) but I would respectfully disagree on Aegon. His behavior and attitude has absolutely been heinous, no two ways about it and no way to justify it. But I think we might see some growth there. I dont think they are setting him up to be a replica of Joffrey.

Totally team green, one thing i have learned from this amazing series is that tradition, though often ignored, takes precedent over everything.

Said traditions are indirectly the reason why dragons went extinct but ok.
Tradition is what keeps the seven kingdoms stable, even though Viserys and Rhaenyra wanted to. Erasing it, is impossible, a son always comes before a daughter.

This scene and the music were surreal
okay, Ramin is a genius, I absolutely love the idea that this starts with Alicent's theme, hinting that it was her all along who've planted the seed of power in her son, quiet melody yet powerful with very loud intentions, and then slowly transitions into Targ theme hinting at how Aegon wholeheartedly embraces his new position, acceptance from the crowd and this temporary "love" that he seeks and slowly turns into madness, gods really flip the coin and Aegon is on the mad side.

I was blown away by the details in the coronation. It felt like watching Nicholas II being crowned in an Orthodox ceremony with all the hollow pomp & circumstance of a rotting system. It's what I'd always envisioned from a GoT coronation. Tom Glynn-Carney was terrific in bringing out Aegon's fear, hesitation, pride & euphoria all at once. I'm glad they kept the much despised Criston putting the Conqueror's crown on Aegon II's head. The Kingmaker is born! What the show's doing really well is the details, down to splitting the treasury or locking up servants. Usually the passionate debates, the treachery, the heartbreak are glossed over & we only see the regime change as "fait accompli". This bring to life the mechanism that historically goes behind a coup, which I assume is as emotionally taxing for the people seizing power. That's why I like agonized & conflicted Alicent more than her steadfast source counterpart. It feels more flesh & blood. She vacillates but her messianic fear for her children fates her to make a cursed gamble.
I don’t care what the internet says, I’m Team Green all the way. I find them way more interesting than Team Black.

The chills... One of the most epic soundtracks ever. What a crowning and a ceremony. The only thing I didn't understand was where Rhaenys got that dragon to barge in and interrupt xD Anyways awesome scene. If season 2 keeps up the same pace and consistency as season 1 did it will be one of the most legendary shows ever. Can't wait. It's already in the history books.
The hall in which the coronation took place was right above the dragon pit (where all king's landings dragons are kept). Thats where melys was kept

It annoys me that in the series the black fraction is shown “good”, although the books are very controversial... Even the scriptwriters' decision to ruin the coronation of Aegon and insert an absurd piece with Rhaenis and the Dragon... This was not in the original. The coronation of Aegon was solemn and insanely beautiful, in the end he saddled his dragon - the most beautiful in the kingdom.
Didnt read the book, i will for sure, but i didnt like that ending, because the coronation was so well directed, acted, the music was amazing. For me that dragon scene ruined everything.

And the coronation was the best part, especially music. I wish they did it like it was in the book.

I wanted to see Alicent crowning Helaena and then Aegon and Helaena flying to the Red Keep so bad! This scene was amazing (and I don't even like Aegon that much, except for the actor being so good that he gave him the complexity the writers couldn't), but it was ruined by that Rhaenys' addition in my opinion. And it didn't even make sense with what we saw of Rhaenys before? Why would she kill so many innocents with no reason? The writer wanted her to have a cool moment so bad that she didn't even care about characterization. Oh well, at least it would make sense with the blacks being so unpopular between the smallfolk later on.

This song “Interests of the Realm” from House of the Dragon’s soundtrack is amazing - it’s both beautiful & powerful. It’s a perfect choice for Aegon II’s coronation scene as it gives you chills. One of the best Ramin has produced in either show. It’s my favorite along with “Sealed in Fire & Blood” which is played at end of Ep7. It’s the music played when Daemon is talking to Ser Qarl at the marina & during the talk between Daemon & Rhaenyra where she professes that she will not be a tyrant & rule though fears. It’s just as beautiful & has a tone that gives a sense of foreboding & dread. Ramin really is a genius & his music enhances the atmosphere of scenes which also elicit’s a range of emotions from the viewer.
