You just need a state park permit, or daily pass, it's not too steep, I think you can do a day pass for 8 to 12 dollars, but if you are driving in the dunes, you will need a couple of permits that run about 50 dollars for the year, combined.

Lake Michigan is like a mini ocean. It produces it's own mini hell storms in just a matter of minutes. Really have to see it to believe the power coming off the big lake when it sucks in warm/cool air from the surrounding area.....and spits it ashore.

So its not that cheap, im planning to go there for a weekend. i was thinking of going there next summer. i live in Toronto ( Canada)
