- Adding limit switches to your Longer Ray 5? Or performing the 20 watt upgrade with limits? You will need to update the firmware. This is not difficult, but I have received several request to show how to do it and where to get the firmware.

Some folks might have trouble runnng the MKS Laser Tool file on windows like I did. Kept getting an error, but realized from the error code, it was a permissions issue. If you right click the file and choose "run as administrator", it works fine. Firmware installed and switchs work like a champ, thanks Roger!
I was pulling my hair our for an hour trying to get the most tool to work. Then I read the comment about running it in admin mode and the program started working. Thank you
Computers are great, but can also be frustrating!
ROGER ROGER ROGER!!! You are my new hero! I have spent HOURS trying to update my Ray5 after putting limits in. The Longer website is a MESS. I got virus warnings when trying to download, it wouldn't download at all etc etc etc! But I came across this video and had it all done in the length of time it took to watch your video. Thank you so very much, I was about to throw the damn thing out of a moving car doing 120mph!!! You saved me today! Keep doing what you are doing exactly as you are doing it. Thank you so much!
Appreciate the comments!
As a new Longer Ray5 user, I truly appreciate all of your videos.
Hi Roger,
Worked like a charm!
Also was dealing with the broken google drive link from the longer website. This saved the day!
Thank you so much!
Roger, thanks for taking the time to make this video!
hadn't noticed that they'd added a limit switch kit. Thanks for pointing it out and outlining the upgrade process. Just ordered the kit.
Tout d'abord un grand bonjour de la France, du sud exactement. Merci beaucoup pour cette vidéo très bien expliquée. Cela m'a permis de bien configurer mon graveur laser. Bonne continuation pour vos vidéos.
Marcel
First of all, a big hello from France, from the south to be exact. Thank you very much for this very well explained video. This allowed me to properly configure my laser engraver. Good luck with your videos. Marcel
tres bien expliquer super simple en suivant la video encore merci et bonne continuation
Thank you. It helped me with my upgrade.
Thanks for the hint on the firmware ! Currently adding a cable chain and my own limit switches (the kit is nice but the wiring loom is too short for the cable chain)
Great video Roger!
Thanks this is exactly what I needed!
You don't talk too much. You do tell us exactly how to do things! My switches are on their way (had a $5 coupon so only $12.99).
Great content! Thanks so much. Are you glad you did the 20W watt upgrade? Noticeable difference? I'm thinking about it.
Yes. Huge difference
Have a dumb new guy question but what is the benefit of the limit switches? Just got my ray 5 and figuring out if these should be added to make it all easier.
Not a dumb question! Having limit switches allows for a homing function and the ability to use Absolute Coordinates which simplifies making repetitive projects.
thank you for the step by step
thanks Roger. can you tell me where you got that hose tamer bracket
I make them: moonshinecrafts.com/product/generic-laser-x-axis-cable-support-loop/ Popular item.
Hey appreciate it this bit I am running into an issue where when it attempts to home it moves along the x axis but the switch isn't stopping it it keeps going for 10 seconds then I get homing failed unlock or something. Any help would be great
Make sure limit is plugged into the correct port on the motherboard and make sure to update the firmware. If both have been verified, you "may" have a bad limit switch. Also make sure the X axis contacts the arm on the switch when it reaches the limit of travel.
Hmm, I may have messed myself up. I flashed the 2.x firmware from their website, but then it wouldn't print anymore, so I installed this one. I don't have the limiter switches though, so when it turns on and tries to home I'm hosed. Any suggestions? I can't seem to find the previous firmware.
You will need to contact Longer for the original firmware. I do not have a copy of it.
@@rogersshop Thanks for the reply!
easy to follow, thank you
Any instructions on how to do this on a b1 30w Since there's no screen? Thank you for all your videos
The B1 has limits and that is already part of the existing firmware. Unless you are having problems, there is no need to upgrade or reload firmware.
Can you provide a link to the limit switch kit? I looked on the Longer website, but I could not find a reference to the limit swith kit.

@@rogersshop Thanks
Roger, I heard that the download tool will not work with a Mac. Are you familiar with this or know of a workaround? Thanks and you do a great job with your videos and explaining the process!
I have heard that as well. However, since I am not on that platform, not familiar with it.
I purchased the 20-watt cutter and as soon as I home the machine and it hits the limit switch the machine shuts off. Also when I go to cut the file on the TF card the laser doesn't even come on, the machine just goes to the motion but the laser isn't on.
Roger I did the upgrade and now my x axis won’t move. It makes sound like it is though. I checked the tension on the belt and the sprocket rotates find when not under the belt. Any advice?
Thanksfor this video Rodger l just bought a Longer ray5 10w laser. It came with very old firmware. Can I use this firmware upgrade for my engraver If not where would IGo to get my firmware.
A£a
The only real change this firmware update does is enables the motherboard to recognize the limit switches. You can certainly use this if your needs an update, but do not enable auto home if you do not have the limit switches installed. (or try to home the laser)
After installing the limit switches and firmware the laser Homing position changed from X0 Y0 to X3 Y3. Any help with resetting to X0 Y0 is appreciated. Roger thanks so much for your excellent tutorials.
Never really paid that close of attention to it, but I guess it would since the limits are 3mm thick, or so. I always work from center and Absolute Coordinates, so for me, that negates the minor position change. I don't know exactly how to reset that back to 0.
Thanks Roger for the quick reply. I'm using Absolute coordinates to burn a new grid. A hard limit alarm is triggered during framing at X=0. I reduced the grid pattern to 390x390 with the hopes of not contacting a hard limit switch. However, the laser is still hitting the X limit when traveling to X0. TY Tim

I'm currently in Mexico, so can't look at the laser, but as I recall (not entirely always accurate), there are two possible mounting hole sets for the limit switches, depending on what size laser head is installed. I do know that this is on the Y axis for sure and I think also on the X @@timphares5316
@@rogersshop Longer tech support replied that X3 Y3 is the correct axes with the limit switches installed. I reduced my grid size to 390x390 on center to address the new grid scale parameters. I wish you the all the best in Mexico.
i search RAY5 20W firmware 2.2v...any know?

Thanks that works Don@@rogersshop
Do you have the STL file for your cable guide?
Email me at raltman57@gmail.com and I will send it to you next week. Be sure to specify what it is for.
@@rogersshop done!
I'm doing this but the firmware won't update in MKSLaserTool. It connects to the laser, lists the MAC Address then just stops and wont actually download anything. I let it sit in case it was downloading slow, and even after two hours there was nothing.
Anyone got any advice?
what did you format the card to. i cant get it to load the Config for the life of me
FAT32
I have followed the instructions twice step by step and it's still doing what yours's is doing in the beginning. Any advice?
Fixing to put limit switches on my longer wish me luck I may need your help thanks so much

I get an error when I click your link to the firmware.
I do as well, now. Longer must have changed something (?)
@@rogersshop I also get an error message. But need the firmware due to technical problems. Since you have it, could you provide it to me?

Command in light burn $22=1 or $23=1 to begin homing for me
NOTE: Turned off and now it is doing the home sequence on its own
