Not at the same time, my man. It looks like it, but it's not. Re-watch it, if you'd like to see what I'm talking about.
What we're seeing is a wonderful way of fitting twice as much story into the same time frame. Two separate stories are told here. Hers takes place in the present. His takes place in the past.
Notice how in some scenes there are two of her? One interacting with him, one standing aside? The one in white is Vampire Paige. From her perspective, Ronnie has been dead from before she woke up in that bed at the beginning of the video.
The video depicts VP walking through the abandoned house and remembering her time with him.
Remembering how once, she was a human love interest of his and ignored all the signs of him being an actual monster, cleaning up his messes until she couldn't handle it and left him, which pushed him into a desperate binge. She witnessed the end of it and saw him for the monster he truly is(Sure. She cleaned up the blood puddles earlier, but that was the first time she actually saw him feed. For all she knew by then, he could just be a serial killer, have horrible stomach ulcers and keep puking up blood, or be really prone to crazy nosebleeds. She now saw him as the vampire he was.). She couldn't handle it and, in the time he spent desperately shouting at the heavens for the fate he's been given(and how he ruined everything by being right in the middle of giving in to his vices when she came back), she killed herself. She then gets brought back as a vampire and put in a room upstairs, while he waits for the angry mob downstairs to keep her safely hidden from their righteous anger(he did feed on their family members, after all). He makes the ultimate sacrifice so that she can go on.
Understandably, after realizing that he kept feeding on others as to not harm her even though she was conveniently right there and tempting as hell, kept controlling himself around her(except for that one time he thought she left him), and in his own way loved her the best way a vampire can love a human, she could not(Go on, that is. Not without him.).
It ends with her understanding his situation and peacefully choosing to leave the unlife he gave her the same way that he did and in at least some way joining him. Wherever vampires go after their second death, if anywhere. Their deaths, while they seem simultaneous, are a day apart.
I know. You probably didn't need an exact step-by-step recap, but I did it for a reason. That reason being... That is a hell of a lot of storyline to fit into a short music video and couldn't be done more brilliantly than with that simple doubling of her in a few scenes and him only showing up in certain scenes after she crosses a specific part of the screen, denoting that these are memories of hers, triggered by reaching specific locations. It is a visual masterpiece of storytelling.
Now... The second layer of meaning, this being a metaphor for addiction(alcohol, drugs, sex, whatever) and how there are similarities(cleaning up the mess an addict leaves behind, etc) is something you already touched upon, so I won't go into that.

Wanna pause for a second to appreciate and point out Ronnie’s attention to detail in the original, because when he’s singing to the nurse in the beginning he grabs the pin from her to sign himself in to the rehab center. It’s funny because a lot of rehab centers here in south Texas (the ones that are still left standing) the patients would occasionally check themselves in right off the street, or if cops brought them in, the exception being flight risk cases and mentally challenged to long term drug use patients that didn’t have good motor functions or were to unpredictable. So Ronnie in that moment appeared as someone either trying to get free food and “drugs” from the system by checking himself in, or using it as an excuse to not be homeless which also happened. I know that he had his issues with drug use and I just wanted to point out that detail having had to work security detail for some illegals that were sent to some of these rehab centers and it stuck out in perfectly accurate detail.

The video makes sense if you rewatch it and understand that Paige's scenes in white are in chronological order. She wakes up in the aftermath of Ronnie's death at the stake and is walking through the house remembering everything. WHen Ronnie lays her on the couch, she is in the off-white dress. The last scene is her in the white dress greeting the sun after remembering seeing Ronnie burn.

  • @blackknight1013
    @blackknight1013 2 роки тому +2

She doesn't die at same time he does. When she wakes up at start it is her waking up after he made her a vampire. REst of song is her watching herself in her life with him seeing what she had blinded herself from seeing. Dust covers on chairs etc. show it could be days/weeks/months after he dies, but she finally walks her life and his and takes the same route out of life he did, being just as heart sick and alone as he was.

    Great reaction! First time here.
What I get from this song, between the original and the revamped, is that the original is the unapologetic, party animal, having fun.... addict. In it he’s not thinking about what impact it has on others.
The revamped to me is a more mature look back at his addiction and how he didn’t think he was a monster but in reality he truly was and Paige (his irl girlfriend) I believe is a representation of how much he hurt those around him with his actions. When the Lynch mob comes, I think that’s his resignation, because he acknowledges how much he’s hurt those around him that he loved the most. When she also dies at the end, I’ve wondered if she represented those that stood by him?
Anyway, that’s just my take on it.
Btw, the guitarist you pointed out in the first video (I think you asked “who is that?) is Derek Jones. The same one memorialized at the end of revamped. He was Ronnie’s friend and the only other founding member of FIR. He passed away in April 2020 after his fiancé tragically lost her battle with cancer.

Sean, totally loving your reactions, Bro'. I came for the BABYMETAL and stayed for the reactor! Very honest and inciteful reactions.
Great reaction to this wonderful version of the song. I think the original is pretty good, but very much of it's time. The Revamped version, like the Revisited Drug in me... is just so remarkable. Ronnie has developed his voice to a point where he can touch souls. DarkMike85's Dark World compares him to Freddie Mercury in his comment here. I was a massive fan of Freddie right from the very early days right until his passing, and I totally agree. They both have not just incredible range and technique, but also the ability to to sing from the very heart of their souls with total conviction. They leave nothing inside!!
You have already seen how he has developed from the early days through songs like the trilogy and Popular Monster to a point where, to me at least, there is no-one who can hit me so deeply (male singers anyway) with the possible exception of Dimash Kudaibergen (well worth a reaction if you haven't heard him! Very different to Ronnie, but just as remarkable at what he does).
So, thanks for a great reaction to Ronnie, the "Poet of Pain", and thanks for you other reactions, all really good. And especially thanks for the love you have been showing BABYMETAL too. For me they are the wonderful light to Ronnie's delicious dark :)
