If you ever watched Belly that whole 3rd verse was a scene in the movie…when Nas was smoking a blunt with little man on the park bench toward the end of the movie
Shorty's laugh was cold blooded as he spoke so foul Only twelve trying to tell me that he liked my style Then I rose, wipin' the blunts ash from my clothes Then froze only to blow the herb smoke through my nose
Just another Nas masterpiece. I bump this on the regular. "Jake" is slang for the cops. Keep an eye out for Jake... Most of that verse was Nas dispensing knowledge to the young head 'cause nobody was looking out for him: "...So I come back home, nobody's helping shorty doo-wop..."
Nas is one of the greatest rappers ever to live!! King’s Disease II is absolutely amazing as well as all of his other records. One Mic is one of my favorite tracks of his.☺️😉😊👍🏽🙌🏽
Yessir!!!! You are on a roll youngn. It's from the 1st album. Do "represent" "the message" and "memory lane". This my fav channel by the way. Keep going King! 💪🏾
You should check out Elzhi's cover of this. He made a whole album called Elmatic where he did his own take on each song from Illmatic, but with a live band. It's insanely good. This is the standout track though.
The 3rd verse even inspired the scene in the movie Belly, where nas is talking to a kid on a park bench smoking one and he even gave him jewels at the end of the scene ..peep it
This album came out my senior year of high school I was rapping this song down the hallways illmatic and the first Only built for Cuban links is two of my top ten albums of all time in any genre of music
I suggest reviewing some Griselda (Westside Gunn, Conway, Benny the Butcher) if you haven't already. Have a listen to Hell on Earth Part 2 by Westside Gunn for example which came out like this week. Also look into Roc Marciano who is pretty much the originator of this new wave that is reviving the 90s sound with its own sort of flavor. If you like Doom, G-Rap etc then you will likely enjoy Marc too but his music does take some time to get accustomed to but once you "get it" then yeah, there is no turning back. KA is also great if you want something that is more deep and conscious. Reviewing the above artists will probably draw a lot of traffic as well as these guys have quite a large audience.
They brought that third verse to life in the movie Belly, when NaS was sitting on the bench talking to the shorty. “I like ya style son” lil dude said while they puffed an L and talked about life.
One of my favorite Hip-Hop & Nas songs ever. 🔥 That's why Nas is my favorite rapper of all time, I'm such a huge fan of him. Great reaction again as usual. 🔥 I really want you to react to Fetus next. Oh, and R.I.P to your granny. 🌷
Peep “You’re Da Man” off Stillmatic, Nas at his poetic finest Also check DJ Quik, one of the greatest producers and engineers in rap who also holds his own on the mic: Tonite Just Lyke Compton So Many Ways
He mentioned Cormega in this who was locked up at the time but Nas featured him on affirmative action. Check out Cormegas music he goes back before Nas but Nas made brought his popularity out more.
Nas is a master storyteller. He got a song on the Hip Hop is Dead Album called “Who Killed It”, where he rhymes from the point of view of a detective from like the 1950’s. It’s a song that gets overlooked but the voice that he uses and the old style lingo is amazing🔥🔥🔥🔥
Few classics you might not have reacted to: What Goes Around - Nas Nas Is Like - Nas Feel Me Flow - Naughty By Nature Sky’s The Limit - Biggie Times Up - OC (DJ Eclipse remix) Golden Child - RasKass (remix) Say Goodnight - Reks The Prophecy - Roc Marciano Act Too, Love of my Life - The Roots All That I Got is you - Ghostface Casablanca - Raekwon Moment to truth - Gangstarr
The last verse of “One Love” is Nas reflecting on all things that influenced the people he was writing letters to in verse 1 and 2. The way he deals with it all is to escape, seeking seclusion in a motel room with his pen and pad to write his thoughts. The verse continues on to say, on one such occasion upon returning to his neighborhood late at night to avoid being seen, he stumbled upon a 12 year old heading down the same path, "Nobodies out but shorty Do-Op” He stopped to talk and the preteen offered him some smoke as they conversed. Nas not trying to preach to the youngster advised him to be careful and not make hasty decisions because mistakes happen. Example spotting an op in a public place and shooting wildly could end with a bystander being hurt, possibly someone your cool with. In the end Nas leaves him with the departing words that he closed the letters in verse 1 and 2 with “One Love”
“Then I rose, wipin' the blunts ash from my clothes Then froze only to blow the herb smoke through my nose” 🤨!!! Nobody never talk about this song frfr
The name he says Lake Luciano was on lock when this dropped and later he did a song with Lake. It’s called Revolutionary Warfare. You can find that on the God’s Son joint.
Cormega's " One Love " (letter to Nas) has to be the next reaction, it wouldn't be right to not follow up with that song . Then ...💁🏿♂️.... gotta get some more Cormega reactions on deck , Cormega's real life is what Nas raps about in some songs Dead man walking The saga remix The testament
If u watch the movie Belly...u will see at the end when he's talking to a little youngin on the park bench...its pretty much what the last verse of this song describes
That whole album had few guests and only 3 producers, and was a 5 mic rating in The Source magazube when it came out. I bought 'Illmatic' again and it sounds so fresh still. Q-Tip on the hook and I believe also produced the beat. Nas takes that parts of the last verse, and uses some of that dialogue between he and a young kid in one scene in the movie "Belly".
Foul Breeze, 2nd Childhood, What goes Around, You’re da Man, NY State of Mind II, Get Down, Book of Rhymes, I Can, Queens Get the Money, and a much more. Nas got plenty records on and off albums. These are a few you can choose from. Some are storytelling.
Peace King. I came across your channel and I enjoy your excitement for real hip-hop. Everything has a lesson in it. Hip-Hop growing up help raised me. Check out BDP “Loves gonna get you”. “Dope man” or Streets are Talking” Jay-Z. Keep digging. One Love!!
Nas is definitely one of the legends in Rap, no doubt! Glad you reacted to this akhi You should listen to NAS - SHINE ON 'EM, in my opinion it's his coldest track! He speaks on the issues of Blood Diamonds
The third verse is the most impactful, not only because we got a full visual but recognize the point. The only verse not a letter. Its a doomed scenario that this little ass kid will end up in the exact same place as his two friends....the kid he connected and sympathize with...a mere statistic.
Heard rumors that that third verse of him talking to ol boy was similar to the scene in “Belly” when he’s on the park bench and he hands lil man some jewelry. 🤔

yup, but the movie took the idea from the verse.

Don't say that bullshit. Q-Tip isn't underrated, he got recognition as one of the best hip-hop producers of all time
Facts!
@@Andrey_SamZnaeshKakoi He is not saying bs most hip hop fans have no idea whatsoever that Q tip ever produced music.
@@wsmokr I don't think so
Low End Theory just got added to the National Library and Q-Tip produced the entire album. Nothing underrated about that.
This was produced by Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest as well as his vocal on the hook
There’s a great clip on youtube where Q-Tip talks about working on this song, from his Red Bull interview. He even does a spot on Nas impression lol
Yep ,I was going to say that as well ,which instantly made this song memorable. Its a letter he's writing to someone in prison.💯
Then I rose /wiping the blunt ash from my clothes /

Q-Tip is the producer of the track. That's his voice saying "One Love." On the bridge. Q-Tip is from "A Tribe Called Quest."
Nas - Purple
Might be my Favorite Nas song! This song hit home when it 1st released......basically describing life at that age for us in NY!
It's a New York state of mind bro..
Life’s a Bitch and Memory Lane should be next
Nas actually has a Masterclass on storytelling in hiphop.
Yessir!!!! You are on a roll youngn. It's from the 1st album. Do "represent" "the message" and "memory lane". This my fav channel by the way. Keep going King! 💪🏾

A companion song to this is TEMPERATURE'S RISING by Mobb Deep, also produced by Q-Tip. Q-Tip produced this song One Love.
When I heard this song. Ik Nas was gonna b my fav rapper. 27 1/2 years later. I now know. He will b there til I'm gone😇
DOPE SONG FROM AN ILL ALBUM!!!
This album came out my senior year of high school I was rapping this song down the hallways illmatic and the first Only built for Cuban links is two of my top ten albums of all time in any genre of music
The last verse was recreated in a scene in the movie Belly, when NaS is talking to the little kid smoking a blunt, selling crack.
In the last verse, the lyrics play out in a scene on Belly when he went to the projects to kick some knowledge to the young dude.
