I also have a singer heavy duty sewing machine which is much lighter thread and needle. Im confident it could handle this job. Best thing to do is test your current setup on some scraps
Yes i believe it would. Ive use a small singer sewing machine on animal hides and it worked. Dependinh on thread size id consider sewing several passes for strength
You can find them used or at dealers. Or you can order yhe Cowboy Outlaw from Tandy Leather. From what i have seen they function the same but are built better and have higher quality parts.

Yes i think its possible. Use a ton of clips to hold everything in place while using your stitching awl or punches
