I'm getting ready to move all my cabs into a new arcade room in my home so I thought this is the time to get all those coin doors lit. I remembered this video from a year ago and how easy you made it look doing this lighting mod. Thanks again for this great and simple tutorial. Off to buy my parts.
Note that the USB is 5V and this is the easiest mod. The bulbs are rated at 5V and 12V so if you wanted them brighter, you would need a 12V power brick which you could cut the barrel off and split the wire into +/- and attach to the yellow and black cable. Then you would plug the 12V power brick into an outlet and the bulbs would be about 50% brighter.
Arcade 1 up can’t call it a deluxe and then leave out this simple addition. It really looks bad on them. Thanks for the video and showing people how their cabinets should look!
They do look much better lit up, but A1up has only done the lit coin door with with the Pro Cab. I do wish they'd make these lit up as a standard feature, but luckily it doesn't cost too much to do this upgrade on your own
I agree.@ 499.00 it should be included and improve those marquees. I just replaced 3 because they look so faded out. Arcade 1 up take note because I know you go through these comments on Kongs r us videos ! 😆
I did a simple mod for all of my coindoors that don’t light. I drilled holes like you showed and just put an led strip behind the holes. Lights beautifully and is a simple cheap hack. Just plug the leds into a power strip with your cab and they all go on and off together. I use smart plugs so everything is powered together.
thanks for going through your process to do this Bee. I might try your method to connect wires as I have been soldering which as you know can be messy.
thanks Wez! soldering definitely can be tricky, but for simple wiring, i prefer twisting and heat shrink which does the job pretty well. I've also used heat shrink tube with solder inside that helps fuse wires together too, but i found they take a little longer to melt. lol, i didn't have patience for it, but it works well.
Wow man very descriptive and everything is easy to follow step by step! Will do this with my Simpsons A1up converting into a TMNT in the near future with some slight alterations. heh heh
Love that it steals power form the cab itself, totally doing this to my MVC2 and MK30th! Has anyone ever lit the coin door buttons on the MVSX cab stand?
Thanks for this video. Living in the UK, ordering 2 kits from the internet and shipped from the USA would have cost me about 80 quid, with the help of your video I have made 2 kits for under 20 quid and have spare bulbs and enough cable to make even more. Just wondering though... is the little piece of white paper behind the coin button, is that supposed to be kept on or off?
I just modded 2 cabinets, my Capcom Yoga Flame and Mortal Kombat 30th. The lights look nice and bright in the Mortal Kombat but for some reason not very bright in the Capcom Yoga. Both cables I made were exactly the same and I tested on my PC. Is the USB power output on the pcb different for each cabinet? Less output in the Yoga Flame?
USB should still be 5V across different PCBs, but the bulbs are rated up to 12v. If you split the power from your marquee port to power it, it may be brighter

Awesome, hope it turns out great!

Great point!
Could I use the 5V USB to light up multiple 5V LED arcade buttons this way?
@@Nickstoopid yes, but may be as bright
@@KongsRUs Ok, Thank you for the info!

@@greenlantern1123 haha, the good news is the marquee on the Deluxe cabs are the BEST quality blacks I've seen in any A1up marquee

LED strip is also a super great cheap alternative!
Fantastic tutorial Bee 🎉
Appreciate the compliment Justin!
I’m going to do this, looks easy and when getting the class of 81 deluxe that was the first small disappointment I noticed the dark coin slots
Great job!🎉
Thanks!

Thank you for this tutorial i believe i now have a better understanding and will try to do this mod for my A1ups.
Hope it works for you!!!

Thanks for watching !

I don't think I've ever seen anyone do a lit coin door mod for MVSX. I'll look into it!

Great to hear! You should be able to keep that white paper behind

I thought it was a coin insert
If only those delux cabs were about 6 inches taller. Unfortunately a pass for me.
They are the same height as last year's legacy cabs, but agree it would look better taller
