Hey there is a new Game for Halloween it's another 1 of those cat Halloween games where you draw the line This time there end the sky is more more you go Up eventually The cat will just go into space.
Same. I knew who it'd be from the thumbnail. Solid colors, sugar, penguins, keys, and occasional frustration at some actually really hard escape rooms fueled who I am today.
BART BONTE MENTIONED IN 2024?! im such a big fan of his games...i keep going back to the factory balls series every once in a while they're so fun. and farafalla is by far my favorite of his
Ive been going on Bart Bonte's blog playing games he recommends made by other indie devs for YEARS. He ignited my love for puzzle games ESPECIALLY room escape games. Forever an incredible indie dev imo
When you said "Bart Bonte" at the beginning, I was like "WHAT" because I LOVE the color series and didn't realize this guy had been making games all the way back in the days of Flash!
my elementary school had this summer program called "summer educare", where kids got to hang out in the school, usually in a computer lab and one of the adjacent classrooms, until their parents got off work and were able to pick them up. i distinctly remember one day during summer educare, i had a race with my friends to see who could beat all four factory balls games first. i lost, i beat 1 and 2 and got about halfway through 3. those were good times.
I never knew Bart Bonte made Sugar Sugar or Factory Balls. I came across his color games way later by myself and just really liked them. Like Neil Cicerega, I didn't know that he was such a legend responsible for my childhood.
How dare you assume I don't know who Bart Bonte is! I've been subscribed to his newsletter for years and have 100% completed every game of his! He truly is one of the GOATs of game making! 🎉
BART BONTE!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD I DIDNT KNOW HE MADE THESE FLASH GAMES! I remember loving the mobile games, and I did know he made those, but I wasn't aware he made these classics too!!
To this day I remember being in elementary school after class playing sugar sugar on a apple g3 back around 2010, looking back it's wild that those old apple computers could still use the internet even then
i was literally obsessed with this guy's color series (and box) literally before black released (i think i was about 6-8) i kinda had a phase were i was obsessed with mobile puzzle games like his i was also obsessed with games like these 100 door games, like 58 works (especially dooors), snapbreak (especially faraway) and kamibox (especially sometimes you die) it actually saddened me when i couldnt find some of their games on the playstore anymore when i tried searching for it, felt like a memory you can never get back btw, if you like bart bonte, id recommend robert alvarez (im also obsessed with his games too, i discovered him when i finally had access to a laptop, he kinda trained me how to use a keyboard), his games are puzzle platformers (like farafall) or sokoban like games (like emotica) with all of them having a unique mechanic, and they are all minimalistic and have a calm sounds, and if i am correct, his games also appeared in bart bonte's blog when they release
I remember playing sugar sugar on flash a long time ago, discovering that there was a mobile version like 4 years ago, and since then I've been playing every new release. Also Collage was such a perfect album for me, it holds a special place in my collection of game OSTs.
GOD I love Bart Bonte games. I got so excited when you mentioned Farafalla, as that is also my favorite! I distinctly remember playing it in elementary and middle school, something about the lack of music made the little character's journey seem so profound to me as a kid.
another thing i love about bonte's games and what has influence my interests a lot is the visual designs, they all have this very distinctive 50's swiss design euro-metro aesthetic going on that immediately grew on me when i was first exposed to his games (especially factoryballs) and kinda sparked my interest in urban-industrial-like aesthetics lately
I loved Sugar Sugar and Farafalla as a kid, I have distinct memories of playing them, and I really like Yellow as a game concept, shocked to know they all come from the same person!
Flash games on websites such as coolmathgames were a big part of my childhood, and Bart Bonte’s games always stuck out to me for their simple and memorable puzzles. I still occasionally play old flash games on emulators like flashpoint, and a good portion of games I play there are by Bart Bonte. I’m glad this video exists to not only take a deeper look into what makes his games so memorable, but also to prove that I’m not the only one that has great memories of his games!
No lie, i actually knew this dev as a kid and literally seeked out his games specifically because they were so amazing, thank you for making my childhood better bart bonte
I remember when I’d play Bart’s games they’d always have such a comforting feeling to them. The art style, music, and feel were always so childlike and nostalgic. Definitely gotta play some of his games I haven’t tried out. Great video!
Sugar, Sugar and Factory Balls were some of my absolute favourites growing up, awesome to hear that both were by the same guy. I definitely want to play the colour series now. Thanks for making this video! I immediately recognised the thumbnail style lol
i remember playing most of these games, factory balls especially with my dad when i was a kid. i’ll always thank bart partially for that time we spent together ❤️
I didn't play most of these games as a kid but I did play some of them, but watching this, it's the font used that I didn't even realize was so iconic in my mind
just the name bart bonte reignited memories of my childhood LOL i was obsessed with the factory balls games when i was younger its crazy to see u and so many others who still remember and think about bonte's games
i was such a factory balls kid. bonte's games are so rewarding because they trust you to figure them out, i think! i'm going to have to go play all the factoryballs games again sometime soon...
I swear he had a lot of cohorts doing similar things with him, names that you'd recognize when you saw them on a Flash game. JMTB02 immediately comes to mind, then I think of Tom Fulp & Tyler Glaiel as browser game developers.
Can't believe you didn't mention Cat In Japan! That was my first Bonte game. I still remember spending so much time on those puzzles (it was worth it to be the first kid in my class to beat it though)
Sugar Sugar is my favorite game not just because of the gameplay, but also because of the music and the strategic value. I was absolutely devastated in 2020 when flash was removed from Chrome, and when the game was removed from abcya shortly thereafter. Many good earlier childhood memories come from that game.
Being a colorblind kid and playing factory balls was such a frustrating experience lol, still one of my favorite games when I was younger. Loved all of his games
I have been searching for almost 20 years now, a very specific game I played as a child. And thanks to your mention of Purble place being on Windows Vista, I found it. I used to play the crap out of Inkball, and it was lost in my memories since then. I had no clue. Those where Windows Vista exclusives at the time.
Don't think I ever played his Flash games, but have played his more recent mobile colour series. When you showed the escape puzzle, the style was instantly familiar.
He still releases games for free on the App Store. I went to go check and his newest came out only two months ago. So happy this video reminded me to check!
i LOVE bart bonte!!!! ive kept his color series downloaded on my phone for years! not to mention the dozens of hours i spent playing factory balls and sugar, sugar as a kid. im glad to see someone give him the appreciation he deserves!
I remember seeing your comunity post about the farafalla colours and scrambling to remember the name, I also really liked playing that game and I think it was my first of his games that I played!
I love Bart's games, immediately bought the collection on Steam when I could. Still a few achievements left to get (Sugar, Sugar is crazy tedious for all of the games) and Factory Balls, Me and the Key and 40xEscape are my favorite. I have a lot of memories with the Christmas games which sadly are not in the collection. Thanks for covering one of my favorite flash game developers. I'm curious if you've heard of an obscure game series called Amberial.
Uh no that’s Bart Bonte. I have played every single game he has ever released and have contacted him multiple times to express how much his games influenced me. I played factory balls nonstop as a kid. Bart Bonte deserves so much attention
A few months ago i found myself playing a really good mobile game, that had non-intrusive ads and a cute art style that made me write a review to the dev; thats where i realised it was a game by bart bonte (I had played almost all of his in my childhood, sugar sugar and farafalla being my fav). That game was 'Boo!' it really holds up the experience, the nostalgia is true :)))
I love his stuff, thanks for making a video on his games! Although I haven’t downloaded any of the mobile games (though I’m sure I’d enjoy them), I still listen to the music from all of them!
Yooo this video is amazing! Bart's games have always meant so much to me and they're why I learned to program. Seeing someone discuss Bart on UA-cam was shocking, but haha I got so jumpscared when I saw my comment. I'm glad it helped you to analyze the games better :)
Your comment was actually what got me thinking about this whole game series in a retrospective way, so thank you so much for essentially being one of the inspirations to start this thing!
It’s been so long since I’ve thought about or even been able to recall the name of sugarsugar, I used to play that game all the time as a kid, it was my favorite! Thank you for reminding me of the name
Thank you for watching!
Thank god you made a video about him he is so underrated
thank YOU for retrieving me my old childhood memories

I loved factory balls! Kept me so entertained in like 4th grade.
I literally bought the app like a year ago just to relive it lol
Bold of you to assume I've never heard of this man. Literally my childhood.
Same. I knew who it'd be from the thumbnail. Solid colors, sugar, penguins, keys, and occasional frustration at some actually really hard escape rooms fueled who I am today.
I had to contact him with how much he influenced me. I could recognize both the sugar game and Bart himself. He NEEDS so much more attention
Same, I've played his games in the Play Store and I like those too
one of the best devs, you probably played at least 2 of his games in coolmath

Bart Bonte is such a fantastic game dev. I think I may have played almost all of his library of games. His puzzles are so fun and unique.
