Uganda's President for Life, Idi Amin, has just celebrated the seventh anniversary of the military coup that brought him to power. It came as his regime was under increasing international criticism over alleged human rights violations. This report shows the anniversary celebrations, looks at life in Uganda today and shows a possible successor to Amin.
SHOWS:
Large crowd watching parade of troops, men in Scottish costumes and Soviet armoured vehicles. Women being presented with pilots' wings, fly-past by Soviet-made Mig fighters. Amin taking salute with Vice-President Mustapha Adrisi, his possible successor. Amin saying he wants to be friendly with the entire world community.

So what if he's a dictator, Field Marshal Amin needed to build Uganda up to be a strong self-sufficient African nation. In many ways, he was similar to another benevelant dictator, Josip Broz Tito. Can you prove that he gave those medals to himself, and wasn't just highly decorated? He was promoted to Lieutenant General by the UK.

He promoted African pride at a time when the Western world ridiculed and assassinated African leaders, like Patrice Lumumba, for standing up to the terrorist West.
