As much as I want to like Sterling, I just can’t talk myself into it. I can’t find a common denominator that attracts me to someone that acts, talks, and has the confidence of a KO artist/killer, but is a technical fighter. There is nothing wrong with what you are.
That’s why khabib is respected. He never pretended to be anything he wasn’t. He didn’t pretend to be a striker or a beast, but everyone knew he was a killer who would maul you and he embraced that but was still humble. You have to be what the people perceive you as. Sterling is perceived as a boa. Be a boa. Don’t opine about strikers bc that’s not your lane.
“Let’s talk now” was a legendary moment bc we knew it was coming. Nothing Sterling has ever said about how a fight would go down has happened bc he’s always acting like he’s going to knock their heads off and the fights are always technical ground fights. They are fine, but if you are elite, you will say what you’re going to do and do it. It was the mistake against O’Malley. Everyone knew you couldn’t stand with him. But all of the talk leading in, was alluding to you being able to. Don’t do that. You know your strengths. Stick with them. Accept and embrace them. That’s how you win the PR battle. McGregor got popular bc of being “mystic” and telling us what would happen and then doing it. It wasn’t just how he was doing it. Before the fights happened we had a history of knowing what he was going to do. We know you too.
We would rather you say “I’m going to squeeze the life out of you” and winning all 5 rounds with 4:99 ground control than hear you say you’re “going to knock” whoever out and then see sloppy striking or see you get knocked out.
Don’t do that. Be better. Be you. Accept your strength. Embrace it.
