When you add lots of detail about the composition considerations plus the editing dialogue it makes for an extremely interesting video. Please know your videos mean a lot to us who regularly follow you - we are right there with you!
Amazing light Adam! Thanks for going over the processing showing us what your vision was. Only thing that would always be nice is to see your raw image then final! I love seeing that with your work. I would never ever even consider shooting that waterfall with that tree in front of it and here you made the most incredible images from it! 👏 👏 Really helpful to think how well a shot can work, I will defiantly be considering this in the future!
Adam - love the way you take us through the making of your shots. Helps to understand the process better and give me ideas I can use in my own work. - thanks
Great video Adam, These forest locations you shoot are so atmospheric and your photos capture it all. These darker scenes of yours are fully appreciated and enjoyed printed - BIG. Great use of digital noise mate lol 👍
The resulting photos of this excursion are absolutely stunning, especially the one that shows the rays of sunlight coming through where you had to shade the lens with your hand. That's my favorite too!
Adam, Wonderful images out of a difficult situation. You don't give yourself enough credit for your technique! The camera certainly isn't producing them by itself. I really enjoy watching your channel. I grew up in the area (Crofton) but haven't been back in over 30 years. Now I stay warm (and dry) in Arizona.
Bit of a contrast there, Crofton, Arizona, lol. The clouds are getting lower the fog moves in and out of the grey mountains, very moody west coast right now. Cheers, Wayne!
Your "slump" is now over Adam, since you came out. Great location with that waterfall and great Images as always. The one with the sunbeam was so damn stunning!
Thanks Adam, I really like this format where you take a shot and then self critique it. I learned a lot from this. I like your images, in the second one i thought the patch of light on the left on the colorful bush was exquisite. Thank you again
Thanks for the tag along Adam. Another item to add to the pre-shoot check list - Remember to also capture faster shutter speeds for moving foliage for combining in post later. ;)
Glad I have found you on you tube, I can certainly learn a lot from your explanations of how you take your photos. Will probably devote a day to catching up on all your videos. Absolutely love your images.
The video footage of you standing in the sparkly water with arm & hand shielding the would make a great still . The puffs of your breathing to the left - almost smoke rings - are a bonus . Your thinking - especially the use of hi ISO. noise for water texture/ faux sharpness - is another bonus Many thanks & lucky us . .
Just wanted to take a moment to Thank You for your wonderful Videos. Even when I dont have my camera I am now looking for lines, Clouds and watching the Light. I have spent years Looking and not Seeing..... anyway Thank You Again
Hi Adam. While I was watching the hike in and some of the set up it occurred to me that you walk double or triple the distance just setting up the video camera to bring us all into the journey with you. So from the bottom of my heart, thanks for literally going the extra mile. The images were lovely and what you shared of the details of the capture and how this links to your work in post is very helpful, so again I must thank you. Thanks for sharing!
I look forward to your videos for several reasons - 1) the great images, 2) the straightforward manner of presentation, 3) the field techniques explained so well, and 4) the thinking that goes into each shot from capture through post processing. Pointing out the details of the compositions here was a great way for me to learn how to do it better myself and I thank you for that!
Seriously there are thumbs downs? Adam your conversations around how you made compositional decisions are really helpful. Having just moved to the South Island, I look forward to trying some of these locations.
As long as you are enjoying, having fun... that's all that matters. :) Your favorite was also my favorite. I really liked the results. I'm glad you warmed up a bit. I also think it looked better. Cheers!
You're absolutely right about a couple of things. Vancouver Island is a great place and you ended your slump! I really like how you take us through the compositions and edits. Also like the squint technique. Great eye-dea.
I loved your old school advice on squinting, it was so practical and you don't need to rely on fancy tech which is a bonus. Would it be possible to do a video on the principles of dodging and burning? I think a lot of people would find it useful to know when its best to employ these techniques.
Thanks, Marieta! I have covered dodging and burning a couple of times if you're interested in these two videos ua-cam.com/video/ioAdPR82zw8/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/KHk_aFXcYxQ/v-deo.html
thanks for your videos. this place reminds me a lot of marin county, california, where i come from. looks identical , except for the lack of redwood trees.
...You nailed it again Adam. The pano with the sunrays is gorgeous. It appears you stepped back a bit to include more in the image or simply went wider with the lens. Very well done my dear Watson... B. :-)
Thanks for the tip on squinting, thanks for the honesty on forgetting to get the foliage images at a faster speed (been there, done that) and thanks for the lovely images.
Great image, don't know why but the stump on the right really resembled Pinocchio to me sitting on the log enjoying the scene, arms in the air and feet afraid to touch the water.... great composition working with what you had.
Never shot there. Great shots and composure as always :) When I get into a slump sometimes I just need a break! Other times... I just need to watch other fellows photographers on UA-cam. That always gets me inspired by what I learn. A new technique or how they do it things get me excited about getting out to trying something new! You give that to so many every week! Today I learned that something as simple as a Squint shows me my highlights in my frame without the use of anything else!! Thanks for YOUR INSPIRATION Adam 🍻
Thanks for the absorbing video, Adam. I very much enjoy your thoughts on composition. Very helpful. I thought the images were beautiful, allowing the viewer to explore at leisure! If this is what a slump produces let's have some more slumps!!!
Back yesterday from a 24 day trip to Slovenia, Croatia, with stops in Mostar, Kotor, Venice and London. Photography was not the primary objective but my wife is understanding and I was able to get a few good ones. Meanwhile, we received 20 cm of snow in Quebec and I'm into winter photography mode. Cheers!
Great stuff, Adam. Really interesting to hear your thought process via the self-critique. Pretty special to have that place to yourself! Looks like you’re getting out of that rut...
Hi Adam, love the way you combine a tutorial style vlog with your adventures, it works well. Bags of atmosphere in this video, the locations you explore seem more like an Amazon rain forest. The fact that you openly admit to artistic licence detracts nothing at all from the images you present, which were great - it's obvious your photography skills far outweigh any *artistic leanings* or whatever you want to call them. Another enjoyable episode - I was sat waiting for a 11am start as I thought the UTC/GMT change had moved us forward in the UK.. it seems not :) Have a good week.
Thanks again for commenting Alan. That's the one thing that I really don't like about this time of year, the short daylight hours, still, it could be worse, especially if I lived up north, lol. Cheers!
Wonderful images! I really like how you tend to spend a lot of time in one location and work on good compositions and so forth, and really allow yourself time to be creative. Great video!
Hi Adam, Another hugely enjoyable video. Thanks especially for sharing with us your thought processes and decisions throughout the making of these images. For those of us at the other end of the learning spectrum, this provides an invaluable insight. Thanks again. Julian.
Hi Adam, cool, with squinting the eyes, lol, I have been doing that for years, and thought I was the only one doing that. Many thanks for your real, hands on videos, I enjoy your work. I find you, and your doing, very inspirational. 👍🏻
Love your videos, Adam. I always feel guilty that I haven't taken my new camera out (like yours, a Nikon D850) for landscape photography; so far it has only really been used for simple astrophotography. Great composition in your shots; the last one is really effective because there's that delightful linear conjunction of the sloping bank and log on the right (whose vertical component frames the rhs of the waterfall) and the other lines made by the logs on the left. Almost a fairy tale image. Many thanks for sharing your ideas and images.
Great video Adam. Lovely atmospheric capture of Stocking Creek.I was just shooting on Vancouver Island in the Sooke / Port Renfrew area last weekend. I ventured to Fairy Lake nice an early to catch some mist rising from the lake for the 'little tree' shot. Just to let you know, somebody decorated the tree like a Christmas tree. The trunk is wrapped in purple glittery paper and balls are hanging off the branches. Ok, kids having fun but I missed out on a spectacular foggy morning and the potential of a good shot. I admit to swearing out aloud a few times. I hope somebody has taken the decorations down by now. Next time I'm popping my kayak on my camper van. Anyway - just want to say thanks again for all your videos. Being a local photographer, I'm always super inspired to go out and shoot after seeing your shots. I've always struggled with forest shots (trying to find compositions in such complexity). You've helped me a lot in that area. Cheers, Pete.
That's a drag, but kind of funny at the same time. I went to photograph the tree several years ago during the playoffs and someone had stuck a Canucks flag on top, boy I was mad. Loing back it was kinda funny. If there was some snow to go with those decorations it would look festive, haha.
Thank you for sharing your nice littel advantures! The explanation of your thoughts on the comosition is very helpful for me and I hope it will improve my compositions. Great video!
Very cool. I surely do envy the scenery that you have within your home range. Inspiring video, Adam, and thanks for taking us through how you captured the images as well as describing the merging, cropping and other edits. It is always interesting to see the approach used by someone else. We don't always have to agree on the process but one, if open, can always be learning and maybe try that trick on a future photo. Thanks again.
Precisely, it's great to check out all other ideas from photographer and other artists even if we're not keen on the work, keep an open mind to all. Cheers!
Congratulations on the 2pl award in the international landscape photographer of the year award.!!!!
Ah yes, thank you!

Wow, what a lovely light and images. 👏👏👏
Lovely shot Adam. You handled a contrasty situation beautifully. Well done mate.

The best channel about photography on you tube Adam
Thanks, Damian!
Nothing like a bit of mist to get you out of a slump. Love the light rays shot.
Thanks, Tom!
Great job navigating the light, logs, foam, and water - that's a lot to figure out! The images you created were beautiful.
Thanks, Bruce!
That image was a slump buster Adam. Good job.
It was, thanks, James!
My favourite subject, done in a stellar way for me! Thank you for the generous comments about process!
For sure, thanks for watching!
Very enjoyable Adam, the explanation of what your thought and processing is, is very refreshing and honest.
Cheers, Peter!

Love it when you head into the forest Adam. It’s just my opinion but I think some of your most beautiful images are created there.
Thanks, Daniel!
WOW! Adam Gibbs saying "The light's just beautiful right now", a good day! :)

Nice little video, Adam. Beautiful images. I will have to check out the creek & falls in the future. Thanks for showing it!
I enjoyed the photo critique and post processing details you added in this video. I found it very beneficial and encourage doing more like this.

Love the images Adam. Your compositions are beautiful.
Thanks, Philip!
Wow that last image is just as you said sublime, Love it!, now I just want to move up to Vancouver Island! :)
Sorry, we're full, lol. Cheers, Jorge!
Consider yourself unslumped! Beautiful as always
I agree about the second image being the best. For me it's the logs doing it in that one, they just create beautiful leading lines.
Thanks!
Nice to see a place 4 minutes from my door be highlighted. Lots of places locally to shoot. enjoyed your video as always.
Lucky you! Thanks!
Back in the woods 👍. It looked like a nice place there.
For sure, great spot, thanks, Jurgen!
Glad you enjoyed them, indeed the second (and third) are better.
Great clips and I will have to try the squinting technique. Sounds like a good tip I didn’t think of. Thanks
2 words : amazing and inspirational.
Thank you!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks, Rod!
I miss BC! You make me happy as always while looking at your vodeos. Great job, well explained. Keep it up Adam!
Thanks, Yannick!
Really like the walk through and critique Adam. Great video and learned much from your experience. Thanks!
Good to hear, I'll probably do more of that.
Awesome image and great vlog! Not usually a fan of waterfall images, especially small waterfalls, but this intimate piece of art works for me...
Thanks, Michael!
The photos came out pretty nice.
Just beautiful! I'd say, justing standing in that spot would have been a slump slayer! Thanks for sharing your creative instruction.
You bet, was a lovely morning for sure and lifted the spirits and creative juices.
You're absolutely right about a couple of things. Vancouver Island is a great place and you ended your slump! I really like how you take us through the compositions and edits. Also like the squint technique. Great eye-dea.
Haha, actually the squinting for contrast idea I got from Charlie Cramer, great photographer, check him out if you haven't done so. Thanks, John
Thank you Adam for your vlog. You help me to improved my photographes.
Good to hear, thanks, Daniel!
Awesome work as always Adam!
DUDE....Nice Delica. Would love to have one of those. Nice shots as well.
Thanks! this is my second Delica, love them although they do have a few problems.
World class images. I think this is what you do best personally. Would love to see what you'd make of Hawaii/ Tasmania and New Zealand
For sure, I would as well when do we leave, lol. Thanks!

Great video and pictures, Adam! 👍

Some great tips in this one about dealing with difficult lighting, both on location and in post! Cheers Adam!
Good to hear, cheers!
Stunning ethereal images, Adam. Glad I discovered your channel recently.
gorgeous as ever mate, panos are a winner :), Your use of light is sublime
Great video, thanks Adam!!
My pleasure!

The pano is very good, but i like the photo on 10.00 aswell. That one got a beautifull dept and light aswell. Thnx for another great video Adam.
