Yes erase the ink right away because after awhile when you go to erase there will be hard to remove markings. That spray is helpful if it gets tough tho. - Talking from personal experience
not sure if this will work, but if you are having a hard time wiping the marker off write over the marks again with the dry-E marker, and see if that helps?

Nice DIY! I think Costco sometimes sells a good-sized one with markers, an eraser, and magnets for ~$20 as well.

I love this!! I watch pocketfullofprimary, and she did this with her white board as well. A good alternative to the nails would be mini command-hooks.
