Slight correction: This exact box set from Arrow was previously available as a blu-ray, so it's actually not a huge upgrade in terms of packaging over what was previously available.
I actually bought that one for around 21 bucks like 5 years ago.That disc already has a DTS X mix so the only real upgrade at all for me would be in visuals.The bluray looks amazing already....
@michaelreid1271 yeah I'm thinking it's probably not worth rushing out to upgrade. Maybe when it gets a standard release and discounted heavily...

Horror during the Victorian era waaay back in the 1830’s-1900 (Crimson Peak being set in 1887) was all about some romance. The Horror stories called Penny dreadfuls (1936 and on) often had a primary love story as well as a scary theme. Crimson Peak is a Victorian Romance (as well as a Gothic Horror) Gothic Fiction or Gothic Horror started around 1764 with Castle of Otranto. The Gothic architecture ran from the 12th-18th century and the Gothic fiction is mostly confined to the last two decades of the 1700’s through the early early 1900’s…it had it’s hay day in the 1800’s especially with those serials called penny dreadfuls:)

Great review Jeff, and I like how you went into detail about the film, your thoughts and how it was shot. I only saw it for the first time a few years ago and I agree with your thoughts - solid 3 1/2 out of 5, but it could have been tighter. I have the standard Arrow Blu - maybe I'll pick up a standard 4K version in the future, but otherwise, I'm good with what I have.
Hey Jeff- your videos are always great, but you should return to the Films at Home name for the channel. Personal branding notwithstanding, the Films at Home name was iconic and immediately let viewers know what your channel was about. Plus, it had a great logo! Just my two cents. Keep up the good work!
Still picking it up because I'm looking to expand my 4k collection, love Crimson Peak, and the packaging looks amazing.
I pre-ordered this on day one not realizing the limitations of the original print, so that's a bit of a whiff for me since I already own the Arrow Blu. Having the art book in this version though is definitely keeping the value for me, getting to read and see his thought process and sketches is always a joy.
GDT is one of my fav directors. I’m excited for my copy mainly the booklet and an excuse to rewatch the film. The color is GDT approved and ik he is very specific about how the color is in his films
I liked this movie when I saw it in the cinema, and over the years I've grown to appreciate it more and more. The only scene that's really contrived is when the protagonist finds an 'exposition box' of a bunch of recordings, which is a bizarre choice for Edwardian England when audio recordings were rare (why not use letters and photographs instead?). The 2015 Blu Ray looks amazing, so I'm not really motivated to upgrade as I think the quality bump will barely be perceptible on my TV.
The blue ray is SO GOOD. Hard to imagine 4k HDR making it look that much better

Don’t get me wrong; I enjoyed this movie. But even for Guillermo del Toro, I feel it’s style over substance. There is substance for sure, but the balance is definitely skewed toward style.
You got that 💯! It was like watching a movie that was shot in a dreamscape. Cool visually but not really a great story or movie overall.

Just got my package and I gotta say I hate the packaging. Compared to my other Arrow Limited Editions it sticks out much further, and the details on the J card aren't anywhere else on the case, so I need to keep the J card. Still excited to go through it though. Arrow rarely disappoints.
I like these gothic victorian horror stories.
Already own the Arrow BD standard edition...good enough for this film!
I would imagine HDR makes a huge difference on this one. The colors in Crimson Peak is one of the first things i associate with the movie.

People shit on this movie when it first came out, I watched it a year or two later, not sure where the hate came from
Never got around to this one either but always wanted to. The packaging is gorgeous.
The rumor is that he wrote the script for Disney for a Haunted Mansion film but Disney passed on it. (Possibly too dark?) So, he decided to modify the script and make the movie anyways. If true I think that make this movie even cooler.
I saw this film with a friend and loved it, but missed out on the blu-ray release and was bummed out by that but are now just glad because it means I won't need to double dip on it and try to sell the first for way less I paid for it!
Crimson Peak is one of my all time favorite films. I can't wait to get this. I always pick up stuff like this from Scarcrow Video in Seattle. Last time I went there I was T boned by a speeding car and totaled my truck. I can't wait to get back out there and stock up on 4Ks again.

Great edition - I agree that this film is more gothic romance horror than full on hortor. - nearest comparison for me would be Ken Russell’s Gothic.

The 4K looks a lot better than the bluray. Dolby Vision is the best.

This is just the blu ray set from 2019 with a UHD disc thrown in. Arrow has been doing this for years. They release the Blu-ray set, and then release the IDENTICAL set a year or two later with a UHD disc thrown in.
Only a fool buys blu ray

wow Arrow following suit with Warner Brothers not including a Blu-ray disc and no digital obviously. Surprised Arrow even did a boxset. Wanted Narc in a Boxset. Getting real sick of these studios cutting corners and charging higher prices. Just going to make me buy from the studios who care about the customers and where my hard earned money is going ✌🏽 Arrow & WB. I’ll be back when you get the picture. Sony, Vinegar Syn, Second Sight, Umbrella are all on top

I really dislike this packaging. All the stuff is very cool. And I love the movie, but I really don't like having to dig the movie out. I was really hoping they would make this like all the other limited editions they put out...c'est la vie. I'll pick up the standard version when/if they put it out.
The packaging is frankly nothing new, just a 4K disc inside instead of a bluray, did we have this situation with “Robocop” and “An American werewolf in London” way before, perhaps dare I say it Arrow need to up there game and do something unique🤔.

Ok I’ll say it. If the lead actress had been more attractive (like say Jessica Harper from suspiria), this would have been a far more watchable film.
Jessica Harper? She old! 😂 Why not give an example of a contemporary actress you would have preferred to see. You know, someone who could have actually been cast in the movie?
Was disappointed in the movie. I still dont know wether i like Del Toros work or not, just like Tim Burton.
Tim Burton is legit, based on his early films - peewee, Beetlejuice, scissorhands, nightmare before Christmas (dir by Henry selick). The rest of his filmography is forgettable or trash.
This movie succcckkks. I was so hyped for this when it came out and it was nothing but a let down. The beginning of the end of my respect for Guillermo.
