I was reading that a lot of those seals will also go bad because of the crankcase breather system. The system becomes clogged and restricts/blocks airflow and thus air pressure has to find a new way out. I.E. through the seals. So I would inspect the breather system. If it has oil deposits inside the tubing chances are that the pumps and sensors are gummed up too. This occurs because of constant low rpm driving which causes condensation and sludge to build up and another problem is not allowing the engine to reach full operating temp before shutting it down again. these engines are meant to be driven. so drive it like you stole it!

    Hi Guys,
I have one of the Allroads with this engine. I get the same horrible smell. However, I replaced the rocker cover gaskets and it didn't stop. I figured out it was the rubber blanking plugs on the back of the head. You can see the leak nicely on this engine too.

yeah man.. those half Moon seals for the cam tensioner were bad.. common with these engines

it's good that this engine has turbochargers because it is small? Quite the contrary, it's actually relatively big when compared to many new modern engines like the 4G63, SR20det etc. Not to mention that this is a factory twin turbo set-up.

wow u were so far away form the real problem. It was obvious, ur rocker cover is leaking, and the moon shaped sealing are also due to replace.
But i would be so happy if u explain it to me how does the oil flows up way?!?

Csaba Kövi I clearly had no clue what I was saying.. I thought under heavy engine load oil would squirt out from somewhere and hot the exhaust manifold.. it was my first Audi.. I'm much wiser now on my 3rd Audi

When this engine came out, (I don't remember when ) I thought it was pretty small to make 250hp. But guess what? The new Ford Ecoboost is the same size but make 325hp I want to drive an Audi 2.7T before I drive an Ecoboost.

I'm not sure if the oil on the exaust is actually caused by the turbo, but rather a leak headgasket dripping on top of it. 2.7 T's are bound to have leaking head gaskets. :)

you are absolutely right.. it's the half Moon seal in the rear.. for the cam tensioner seals..

Oil on the manifold is from your cam seals. Common problem on these motors. Also white smoke is coolant and blue smoke is oil

If I reach my hand underneath my valve covers on my 2.7t, I can feel oil. Is there anything else besides the valve covers that could leak on there onto the headers?

If it isn't blown turbos or stuck open injector shredding the engine, it's the dang transmission D-Drum.. Garbage car.
"Oh, and don't dare try to properly dismantle the intake plastics.. Unless you have new ones." Junk'a.
