    I have seen alot of guys using that ultra, it definitely needs a bigger push plate. That is why the pieces want to jump up off the wedge, they start pivoting over the top of the push plate, and unlike the 4 way, the single does not hold them down. To each their own, but not a fan of the ultra. The speed, work table, and tall wedge is nice, but it needs a bigger push plate, and more protection for the control valve.

    Good morning Chris!!😀😀
    I was really surprised how hard the cottonwood split. That stuff is really stringy. I have never split any of it. I have never cut very much of it over the years and I have never used it for firewood.
    Well I'm off to work again to see if I get stuck on the way into the job again. I hope that the ground might be frozen a little bit. That would really help.

    Nice video Chris! I'm getting ready to go out and cut some oak and iron wood trees for next year. I'm glad I'm not in that heat splitting wood by hand. The summer was brutal for work but awesome for drying wood. Now that it is cooler out it's amazing how much more enjoyable it can be.

    Glad to see someone suggest a larger ( taller) push plate. I don't think that would reduce power since that is a direct result of hydraulic pressure X cylinder diameter.
    Another option to reduce the cuts from raising I p would be to redesign the wedge so that it is longer on the top, thus helping to hold the wood down.
    Maybe Andrew can weigh in on this.

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  3 роки тому +1

      Great point! I really don't have a problem with the plate but every one seems to think it needs to be bigger.

      @@InTheWoodyard Take it to a welding shop. Explain that the wood is walking up the wedge and needs to be ground to more of a taper, so it prevents this. You will love the 'NEW' wedge! It will help 'pin' the wood to the table.

    man that dry cotton wood was a beast. I think the easton made is a very good splitter and built very well and I have watched a lot of splitting videos and the one thing I have noticed is that the easton made are a little under powered (just my opinion). If they put a 27 ton on the ultra, I think it would be a lot better. Chris you are a hard worker, I wish I had the drive that you do, good job bud.

    Take a 2x4 about a foot long and put it through the handle of the single wedge. Then cut 2 pieces of 4x4s, to stand on either side of the wedge, the proper length to so the pin hole lines up where you want it. Then you could slide in the pin without holding up the wedge.

    Hello Andrew, I see Chris from the woodyard has an Eastonmade splitter and I, as a you tube watcher thinks it would be good business for you as a smart business man could Help Chris out and maybe take his splitter in on a trade and Help him out with one that has a Log Lift and a wedge lift that he can adjust. Chris has had trouble in the past with his 4 way wedge getting stuck, and had a very hard time getting it unstuck. Chris does not know that I'm telling you this. Chris has a very Big flowing and this would Help you and him both out. Thanks Andrew for your Great Video's on you tube. Chris lives in Wisconsin. Your products are the BEST ! Thank You !

    The dry cottonwood looks a bit like good Aussie hardwood. 40T splitters with a single wedge is pretty much the done thing over here. It's very rare to see a multiway splitter or a box wedge.

    Im curious would a bigger push head help prevent the wood from rollin up like that? I’m now leaning more towards this model after seeing how well it handles most logs. What’s the largest knotty rounds split with that thing. My wood sources are oak, ash, maples, beech, black walnuts, larch and locust. And they can get pretty tough with the bigger diameters.

      Maybe, it seams that everyone wants a bigger push plate on it, but I think it works fine. I have split some 20-24" stuff with it but the worst was 18-20" dry cottonwood-nasty krap!

      Did you watch my old videos with my old splitter? $1000 - $1500 will get you a good splitter that will do hundreds of cords for you.
