  • SOFT BAIT TROUT is probably one of the easiest ways to catch trout. Particularly the bigger fish in rivers. they cannot resist a soft bait or lure and will generally always come over and smash it
    This video will show how to catch trout on lures in river and lakes in New Zealand, however these methods will also work world wide. Having the right tackle will make all the difference to this type of fishing. Using lures to fish for trout will allow you to cover the water quicker and more thoroughly
    lure fishing lakes and rivers for trout with diving lures or soft baits is allowed in many rivers, just check with fish and game to check what is allowed in each area before fishing it.
    How to fish New Zealand rivers with lures and soft baits for trout, some tips and tricks and a heap of big fish all on spin gear and lures. This will be the same in any country that has trout.
    Fishing a 1/6 oz TT jig and Berkeley 3 inch soft bait you can work rivers to catch so many trout with this technique. Trout love soft baits and if you cast into the right spot the fish will always bite.

    So when you use the term lures do you mean soft baits? Like the kinds id use for snapper fishing? If so what size jighead do you recommend?

    • @AdriftFishing
      @AdriftFishing  3 роки тому

      Yeah both man, normal rapalas work, but softbaits in 3-4in work too. Like the saltwater ones but I think the nz regulations say the lure has to be un scented. So no gulp

    It was very informative, thanks!
    Now I know what does "RIVER" mean in New Zealand!🙄
    .....
    Casting downstream on those tiny streams, was perhaps the best one, though in a real RIVER, casting upstream and letting the lure being drifted while keeping the slack under control, produced best for me.
    ..
    Softbaits are indeed very versatile and fun, and even less expensive kinda lure for catching them all.

    • @AdriftFishing
      @AdriftFishing  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah they are versatile for sure. Both up and down work for me but lately the down stream has been working real well. But depends on the pool aye.

    Cool video just a quick question will trout go after 10lb braid

    • @AdriftFishing
      @AdriftFishing  2 роки тому

      The only time I would use 10lb would be for double digit browns over in nz and slap a huge dry on their head. I’d stick to 6lb for everything else. The lighter you go the more likely it gets eaten. It’s a trade off 🤙

    Here in Norway i call plastics, rapala type lures etc the big trout lures since trout here normally are around 800g before they turn into canibals and mainly gobble fish for dinner while still keeping insects, frogs, mouse etc as snack.

    • @AdriftFishing
      @AdriftFishing  2 роки тому

      Yeah nice! You have some amazing trout fishing over there 🤙 in nz they call the soft lures (soft baits) and in Australia (soft plastics) terminology changes from place to place.

    Okay, I'm extremely confused. So can you use soft plastics on "artificial flies and lures only" waters?? Im in colorado and under the definition is says its nonedible, nonscented, and made entirely of wood, plastic, silicone, rubber, etc. So are soft plastics legal??

    • @AdriftFishing
      @AdriftFishing  4 роки тому +1

      There are a lot of waters that are fly only. And others with restrictions on where you can fish with lures. Lures are defined as artificial not bait and non scented. So the ones I use fit that rule. Rapala or unscented Zman are same same. Classified at spinfishing. I’ll have a dig see if I can find the description

    • @matforbes1

    • @AdriftFishing

      Legal lure “any authorized artificial fly or spinner”
      Spin fishing “means to fish with spinner”
      That’s all it says but somewhere I read non scented but yeah that’s all the regs say
      Only further info describes where and what rivers you can fish.
      Eg I can fish this river for another 200m up from this section then it’s fly only.
