    I think most commentators are missing the point. The NLAW is really for destroying tanks, command and control vehicles, missile and artillery batteries and APCs out in open ground and at a relatively safely distance for infantry. It's accuracy and 'shoot and scoot' mode ensures the enemy has little chance of returning fire. The Panzerfaust 3 is more up close and personal. It will be far superior in defending urban areas. These are both outstanding NATO frontline weapons. Keep them coming in volume to the Ukrainian military. Long live a democratic Ukraine and fuck Putin.

      It depends on if you only use the standard sight or the computing sight with the PF3. The computing sight helps to engage even moving targets accurately from a distance of up to 600 meters. It still lacks the capability to change trajectory in flight, when compared to the NLAW.

    I think both are good in its way. They are not comparable. The panzerfaust 3 is maybe comparable to rpg7 but with better penetration. In my eyes panzerfaust is better for close combat in the city. Open a window and shot tank. No lock on needed. Crouch arround the corner and shot. Nlaw might be better for larger distance and fast moving targets because of its guided missle

    The NLAW is showing it's colors right now since most of the combat is rural, with ambushes from brush or over fields against convoys, which is pretty much exactly what the NLAW was designed to do, while PZF3 is more of an urban combat weapon. If/when the Russian are trying to push into cites and fight door to door, the PZF3 will be the dominate AT at that point.

    The main advantage of the Panzerfaust is and remains its cheap and simple construction, as well as its reloadability. The price of a Panzerfaust 3 is said to be between 10,000 and 12,000 euros. Accordingly, many of them can be purchased, which is not insignificant tactically for weapons systems with a short range. Weapons with a higher hit probability, such as the NLAW, are of course always preferable from the point of view of the soldier using them. An officer tasked with defending a larger area or holding a certain point for longer will prefer several Panzerfaust 3s, I think.

      Spot on. I watched a video of a Ukrainian fighter in a demolished apartment block in Mariupol, fire an NLAW at a Russian tank at very close quarters from above. It didn't even have time to engage its main thrusters properly and bounced off the tank. A PF3 fired from above at 50 metres would have taken the turret off. Open country or at distance, use the NLAW/Javelin and close combat/urban use the PF3 or similar. The right tool for the right job.

      @@ianworley8169 The Panzerfaust 3 was specificaly made to be excellent in Urban combat beeing one of the few that can fire from closed rooms. The lack of lock on is actually an upside as you just need to peak, shoot leave. No lock on step. Versatility is also in its Design, so if you want it actually can lock. Calculate distance and give you a Digital aim point. It can easily destroy fortifications and is cheap enough to be used also against the smalled vehicles. The Panzerfaust 3 brings hell in Urban warfare and is at least up standart capable in other environments. Love it

      Yes the most similar weapon to NLAW which Germany is currently buying for its military is the Wirkmittel 1800+, though the German weapon is more for unarmored or lightly armored vehicles at longer ranges (up to 2.000m).
      Apart from that Germany has currently various unguided rockets (Panzerfaust 3, Wirkmittel 60, Wirkmittel 90,...) in various versions from anti-structure, HE against infantry to anti-tank rockets.
      The primary ATGM will be MELLS (Israeli Spike LR) which is used by the infantry on a tripod or mounted on vehicles (Puma IFV, Marder IFV and Wiesel 1) to replace Milan and TOW.

    Uh the NLAW can also be used in confined spaces and can detonate within 20 meters of a target.. NLAW has two modes. Direct fire attack or OTA = Over fly top attack. The OTA makes it capable of penetrating any Main Battle Tank. It has PLOS targeting. Aim a few seconds at a moving target and the missile self adjust according to the pre-calculation of speed and has magnetic sensors too I think. It has a shape charged that penetrate armor. "Molten copper". If not mistaken it's a tandem charge as well if they kept that from the Bill 2 warhead.. That means a 1st charge detonating taking out ERA and then the shape charge 90 degree tank penetrator charge.
    The NLAW is better for ambush and taking out vehicles fast. You only need to see the tiniest sliver of a tank in hiding behind a ridge or the ass behind a wall. It will track and hit.

      These are simply 2 completely different modes of operation and 2 different explosive devices. One uses HEAT the other mostly EFP.
      And there is a big difference between a missile hitting a target directly from a height of 150 m at 500 m/s and the fact that the missle is just exploding 1 m above the target. In overflight. Especially when using reactive armor.
      Both can be deadly.

      With the new electronic sight the Panzerfaust 3 can hit moving target at 600m and stationary targets at over 1km, that combined with the higher penetration, 5 times faster speed (gets to the target quicker leaving less chance for the target to disappear or deploy countermeasures) and being more low tech (not susceptible to electronic warfare countermeasures). All in all I would hope the NLAW gets developed further, being a self guided missile it would benefit from having more range, 3-5km would be ideal. Each round for Panzerfaust 3 round depending on it's role costs only 200-300 dollars. The Fire mechanism and optical sight which can be re used cost 10.000 each. So starting cost of like 20.000 and then each round like 250 dollars. So each round is shockingly cheap if a soldiers doesn't get blown up. I think each Nlaw missile costs I believe around 20.000 British pounds in comparison(around 26.000 dollars)

    I feel like carrying around this bulky NLAW all day in a battleflied must be the horror, then you shoot one time and it's done. What if it didn't work out or you need more, you most probably can not walk back to get another one.
    It probably has it uses at nearly max distance and the tank dug in the field or if you are in a fixed position and you have a few leaning against the wall but overall it seems very limited. Then it also has 4 times the cost of a Panzerfaust 3 if my quick search is correct.

  • @swunt10
    @swunt10 2 роки тому

Right now the NLAW and Panzerfaust have basically the same use case and the Panzerfaust is simple better and cheaper for that use case.

    • @firstlast7052
      @firstlast7052 2 роки тому

      If the NLAW was to have a range of 3--5 km then it would have to be bigger and heavier as it would need more than 3 times as much fuel. That would make it bulky and much heavier. What would be the advantage of such a weapon for NATO when for targets at a distance they use airpower? In the European theatre of operations, it is unusual to have ground line of sight an targets that far away. It is no coincidence that the longest tank on tank kill (4.7 km) took place in the Iraqi desert ( m.ua-cam.com/video/WAZlPbVay28/v-deo.html )

    • @swunt10
      @swunt10 2 роки тому

      @@firstlast7052 much can be done by improving efficiency such as rocket motor efficiency or better light weight construction or an improved war head. The Javelin is not much bigger as a missile but gets almost 10 times the range. Even if that range is not always needed it still has it's merit like when shooting from vantage points such as hills or buildings where you can easily see 20 km on a good day.

    As other comments have pointed out this is like comparing apples and orages. For example the NLAW is designed to penetrate top armour while the Panzfaust is designed to his any direct line of sight armour. So simply comparing the thickness of armour the weapons can penetrate is pointless. Your vidio comparing the Panzfaust with the RPG-29 "Vampir" is a much better video in this respect. I do not know which RPG is in common use with the Ukrain Army and how many they have left, but whatevr it is be in RPG-7 or RPG-29, that would make a more informative video.
    Also Panzfausts (1) and RPG-7s were used by defenders in both the Battle of Berlin and the Battle of Grozny at street level typically basements with a door or a window looking out onto the street, while machine gunners took position above them at a height greater than tanks could elevate their main guns. If top armour is weaker and side and front armour is impervious to RPGs then perhapes the rocket men will fire from upper stories, although this leaves them more exposed to both to suppresive fire before they fire and counter fire one they have done so.

      The Panzerfaust 3 IT has an older system that works similar to the NLAW but is less capable. It has a targeting computer that calculates lead. Through that the max effective range of the Panzerfaust 3 is increased to around 600 m. But once fired the warhead follows its ballistic path. It dosent have any electronics inside so it cant steer itself but is also a lot cheaper.
      In the NLAW the seqence is simillar, so lead is calculated but then the missile gets INS programming so it holds the calculated flight path even if there are influences on the missile like weather/wind.
      BUT unlike the Javelin the missile dosent lock onto a target. It follows a flight path. So through manouvers it is theoretically possible to dodge it which is nearly impossible with a Javelin.
      Note that I write "theoretically". The NLAW still travels at 200m/s so depending how far the target is away there is only between 1 and 5 seconds to react and that is if you see the missile coming your way.

      The Panzerfaust 3 can be used at 15 meters. NLAW is excellent for long range or fast moving targets.
      Panzerfaust 3 is ma Choice for urban warfare since the point of impact is solely chosen by the soldier and it can be used extremely well for surprise attacks in close range.
