I found this video while searching for homebrew transceivers and I wanted to let you know I really appreciate that you showed the development process, such as how you found the resonant frequency. If you had wanted to use the transmitter on 20, 30 and 40 meters could you have just left the variable capacitor installed and make a scale so you would know where to set it? Or are there other stages that would prevent that from working? I wish you had left in footage of testing the secondary coils you made and showed how you made them. I had never seen your technique for making homemade capacitors. Maybe how to make capacitors and coils would be good topics for future videos. - Mark KI4HQK
All we need now is a KIT. The tube/valve could be a 6v6 or similar....A couple of button could be be used to move the oscillator's freequency up or down with 'simulated' crystals. G7VFY
Oh, disappointed when I saw the Arduino. Always nice to see home made equipment, it sounds nice too. I did one using a 61BT valve out of a non working oscilloscope and xtals for 7.030 and 5.262 MHz. G4GHB

If those boxes of 12A6 came from an ex-military source, then they may be for the TCS transmitter which used three of them. Lots of Allied nations used the TCS in WW2.
Dear Helge, I really enjoy watching your videos, cause it's unique on youtube. I just build my first transmitter, a Michigan Mighty Mite, and got around 600 mW max. output power. It was much fun building it on an classic style chassis and I will build an 40's style enclosure for it, but I'm not yet happy about the range. I got about 5 km with 20 m of wire attached to the wall of my house and an 1 foot metal rod as ground. Worked for receiving, but surely a bad transmitting antenna for 80-m-band. Which type of antenna are you using? Could a better antenna improve my range? And do I need a shielded wire to the antenna? I'd be really happy about an answer! Best regards from Jan
Thanks for the interesting comment. Yes I can suggest a better antenna. When you use a 20 meter antenna at 80 meters, there will be a lot of current in the ground. I therefore suggest a 48 meter long wire for the antenna. Then you will get a fantastic much better signal. This is much more high-impedance, so you need a small tuner. This is the antenna I use in almost all my videos. I'll be coming up with a video about this in a while. Alternatively, you can use a dipole.
Installed 42 m end-fed half wave antenna in an old hayloft and heard very strong signal from 2.3 km away. Going to build an external antenna tuner (L-Match) to improve the antenna. I'm getting really fascinated about homebrew and vintage radio. My next project will be trying to get an Russian R-311 receiver recently offered on Ebay and restore it as a part of the classic 80-m-station I'm building in the hayloft. @@jans3745 I'd love to see a video, as I am having a hard time picturing that hayloft of yours. you are lucky to even have a hayloft in this modern world. i'd love having a hayloft. it just seems so much like a 50's dxpedition thing to do :)

FB OM. Superb Build. The 12A6 was the audio output tube used in the WWII ARC-5 Receivers. A great tube for a QRP Transmitter.

when open key on a hot tube can the cathode heater isolation hold ???
