The map is still beatable if purple teleports to the main land. Ideally just don’t commit to your starting castle. Keep moving, keep building experience for your main hero. Also hit/retreat to take his arch-mages out if you can. It makes facing the titans a lot easier.
@@Haleukin yeah I know it is, at this point I actually think it is only fun if they get dimension door, otherwise it’s too easy. But the difficulty difference between purple getting dimension door or not is absolutely massive
That was the first map of HoMM2 I ever played. Needless to say I've lost on a 3rd week. Still remembering all the features 25 years later. Can't say the same about any other map, including campaign.
First HOMM map I ever played and same starting position. Was 13yo and at my friends house and his older brother invited my to play "hot seat mode" on this new game they got. This little fantasy world blew me away with all its artifacts and creatures, and knew I had to get this game. The next day I sent a post-order for it.
Thanx!!! Learned da importance of getting resources asap, even if it means dismissing troops 2 travel faster n having "too many" heroes from da begining, also I never though of blocking da portals with weak heroes
I remember this was one of my favourite maps to play against the AI. The dimension door RNG is a bit sucky, so I made an edited version of the map where dimension door can't reach from the island to the mainland.
You did a great job soaking up as many resources as possible early on. This is key for many reasons, with one of them being the creation of the Green Tower before week #2 is over. I assume you didn't build the statue and dungeon to save ore for the dragon tower and its upgrades. Smart play getting to the center island early on in order to farm the leprechauns and block the gateways.
My son and I had a challenge going on dragon rider. I thought I was doing pretty well when I got down to 20 days but then he got to 18 and I decided to call it a day there. That was some going! lol
Lmao, this map is even more rng than I thought, sometimes, yellow is almost instantly at the island, and one time i played, purple had wizards below me and I attacked 1 day before than in this video and he already had 6 giants xD
Very well played. However, I was really surprised to see you play magic heroes almost exclusively and then cast lightning bolt on steel golems that resist it.. Attack and defense are twice as effective in H2 compared to H3, I always thought Might heroes rule.
There were a few odd things he did that confused me, like casting cold ray on peasants. I'm guessing since it was a speed run that he wasn't thinking about every little decision. Playing this map over and over in the 90's was how I realized how much more powerful a warlock can be due to damage spells. Chain lightning in the first round can decimate an enemy, and damage spells ignore defense values so they have a built in ramp against higher level creatures. In H2 the castles were tied to either a might or a magic hero, so creature choice also played a role in which hero you would use. "A Black Dragon will defeat a Titan any day."
I have been trying to win on impossible and it really is impossible. By the 3rd week the AI used dimension door, teleported right next to me, and he had several titans how is that possible? I usually don't get mad but that really made me mad lol.
This guys strategy is smart. Save up all your resources for green/red/black tower. Focus on rushing the gold mine island. Gather as much resources as possible.
Interesting video on a map I love! I like the strategy of rushing the gates, stealing the resources, then sealing off the gates, it's very clever! A few comments: You'd get a lot more mileage out of your dragon armies if you used might heroes (barbarian, knight) instead of magic ones. Lightning bold and cold ray look appealing, and the AI uses them effectively. They're not as good as blind/slow/haste, which let your troops be where they need to be and make key enemy units not participate in battle. If you take Peacekeeper (the town in the middle of the map), you get a supply of dragons and a level 5 mage guild. It's odd that you didn't! Why do you pursue low-tier fleeing troops if you're trying to speedrun?
Pretty good, I would think after dragons you should be focusing on mage guilds. Dimension door is how you move fast and I don't think you needed as many stat buildings. But cool stuff
@@danielchristensen3657 I find that Dimension Door makes victory come a lot quicker---but only if you are already winning. It mostly cuts off the annoying part towards the end where the enemy runs around, recapturing castles.
ok, but tell me one thing: why do You attack with magic the weakest unit (like peasants), not the strongest? I've always assumed You should go for the strong ones to avoid their defence.
there were a few points toward the middle of the run where they kept using the Trading post instead of just building marketplaces in all of the towns they now owned, would've gotten waaaay more mileage out of the resource trading
I've done it on normal, but it's not easy. The key is taking out the purple town in the SW by the second week. If the AI doesn't do it, then purple will have three castles by week 3.
He made a lot of smart moves, however I think after getting the red tower, he should have used summon boat and gone to get Peace Keeper (middle island) for better magic + more dragons
This map pretty much just depends on whether or not purple gets dimension door from start
Fast titan
yes, very bad rng xD. Always nice to have titans knocking on your door before you even have your next best units out :D
i guess i will play the map again, do defeat titan push sounds like a interresting quest!

Nice to see a run of this! I've been playing it for old-times-sake and I've gotten some good high scores, but nothing without save/load. Very cool.

really nice, shows how important it is to take all the treasures and magic gardens etc early! Green tower in the second week unbelievable :D
I’ve always used the rule never to use level 6 units, only the first five, to make it more challenging and less broken
Thanx!!! Learned da importance of getting resources asap, even if it means dismissing troops 2 travel faster n having "too many" heroes from da begining, also I never though of blocking da portals with weak heroes
Thanks for using the MIDI soundtrack. It's how I experienced it! The operatic newer score is a touch too melodramatic for my liking!

I can't believe there is another person on the planet that tried to and got Black Dragon on this broken map.
32167: 5 black dragons.
8675309 : unveil the whole map
I'm still remembering this lol

@@grupio12 Armageddon requires a level 5 mage guild. In a speed run you don't have time for that.

Broken Alliance my favourite map =)
I notice in a lot of HoMM speedruns that sfx are disabled, does that allow animations to complete faster?

Memories!!

dimension door makes this map, and most maps, a breeze.

I believe when AI loses certain percentage of troops they retreat.
Black Dragon always make this game broken
So I guess there's Dragon Slayer
0:40 how to split unit like that?
Hold shift
Well done, but can't understand why you've built marketplace after spending too much resources for bad price? Why not do it from a start?
Because Trading Post on the global map has better rate in trading than regular Marketplaces.

Nice
The midi music and lack of sound effects makes this much harder to watch. Good work though. Just wish it was a little more digestible.
Daniel Christensen did u have Adlib
Midi battle itself is good though
I could never play the orchestral soundtrack on my computer growing up, so the MIDI is the soundtrack to me and tbh is one of my all time favourites.
8bit music version
Heroes 2 cool games ! 🆒😍🥰😻❤️♥️💖💗💓💞💕💻🖥️🕹️🎮🗡️🏰😁😁😁😁👍👍👍👍
"Pyramid" i had 282 pts
I had 322 pts on "Europe" 😜
Good run needs commentary
First Time watching this damn how many stupid decisions have been made here. Made it far more complicated
What should have been done differently?
He made a lot of smart moves, however I think after getting the red tower, he should have used summon boat and gone to get Peace Keeper (middle island) for better magic + more dragons
