Over the years I've owned outerwear from Columbia, Patagonia, North Face, REI, Under Armor and others. My only real loyalty is to quality and value. Because I'm a long time co-op member, I tend to look to REI first, but otherwise, I'm less interested in the name and more interested in the value. I'd happily buy from any of them again as long as the item did what I needed it to do and was a good value. I love getting deals like the one you did here, that's awesome Scott good for you! As for the mylar heat reflective coating, your friend was wrong, NASA created that, and as long as it works, it works the same in any brand!
So good for you on that awesome deal and being in the right place at the right time!!!

You deserve a break and I'm happy that this time you were blessed with the exact apparel you were looking for. That is a good looking winter coat. Outlet stores are not always wholesale but this time it was. Good for you! Thank you for the coffee chat. The sound of our coat fabric reminds me that you will be warm this winter. I can almost hear the crunch of snow beneath your boots. Double up on socks and wear gloves. I don't suppose you would wear a winter scarf with your tuke. Stay well. Seven and a half years can dwelling is a bit of a bench mark. Did you ever think you would still be a van dweller this long? Your living your best life that works for you. Thanks for the vlog, Scott. I spent most of my years in the Northeast therefore I can so relate to a reliable, warm winter coat. The $40 price tag was the cherry on top!! I hope you get a few more years use. When you mentioned your 'freezing feet' it did bring back a memory of a super fantastic sale I ran across quite by accident- on Columbia wool socks. I never needed special socks but the price was so good that I bought 2 pair. During the 'pandemic' I had to stay in a cottage in the Northeast during Dec through April; the heat system died in beginning of January. Long story short, the house was very old and other heat options were not feasible (in my worried mind). For me, I much prefer trying to manage the cold than the heat- so it was doable for me. Those particular Columbia wool socks were a 'life saver' for cold feet. Wishing you all the best in the upcoming colder weather; and thanks for sharing the coffee.

My Wife received a Colombia three way jacket years ago, with the purchase of Her Columbia edition jeep liberty.
I liked it so much, I hunted for one for myself, for home use. I Loved it for many years. I eventually sized out of it. lol
I worked building construction and wore Carhartt, for years.
I was always still a bit cold working outside in the Michigan winters; mainly because of the wind chill.
I added the wind breaker portion of the Columbia to the inside of my Carhartt coat.
It didn’t matter how cold it got after that. I was fine.
In the later years I switched to wearing hoody sweat jackets layered at work, with a wind breaker as one of the layers. Each outer layer is sized up, so as to not bunch up.
I must say, they made us switch to high visibility outerwear at work.
This layering worked so well. You can add or take away layers, as the temperature changes through the day.

dude, that’s always. You are a great storyteller man. I’m sure you’ve been told us before you need to get an agent do some voice work. Your voice is amazing. Couple things about Columbia number one whoever your friend is don’t know if you’re good friends or whatever but he doesn’t know anything about jackets that’s not true Columbia makes great stuff at fair prices. I’ve had plenty of Columbia stuff. I wanted to mention maybe this has been mentioned in the comments already but that might still be under warranty because I’ve got Columbia stuff in the past that really long time and went to the store and they took it back and gave me a new one, so anyways continued success and I’m sure I’ll see you somewhere in the PNW.

Columbia is an outdoors clothing company by people that ski both cross country and downhill. My husband hated being cold and the omni heat really works. I had the three in one jacket before they paired it with down when the inside jacket was fleece. I loved them and could usually get one end of season for under one hundred dollars for the next year. I worked outside so my coats usually had to be replaced every year. Now I have a down puffy that is 12 years old from Feathered Friends a down balaclava from Kaebollic, 8 years old and a MontBell waterproof breathable raincoat, 9 years old., that I can wear to the negative single digits. Any colder than that and I am not staying around and I am definitely not going outside in it. I will not be winning any fashion shows, but at least I am warm. Cold feet you need down booties... You can often find a treatment to refreash the waterproofing on older rain wear. Thank you for another great coffee talk. Stay warm and dry.

Retail therapy and dopamine... my Columbia story... I won an auction for a new Columbia Titanium layered parka. Men's M for $50. Too tight in the hips. Won an auction for the same parka but a Large. $50. Hips good, shoulders massive. A women's Large came up, and I won it for, again, $50. Perfect fit. Now I have 3 brand new Titanium parkas that I spent $150 for. Gave the L to my bro for Xmas, and sold the men's medium on ebay for $295. (Nordstrom sold the same parka for $305) Mountain Zone quit doing auctions shortly thereafter.

I collect watches. I was in a jewelry store and selected a watch from the glass enclosed counter. I wanted it badly but was not going to pay a high price. The rep said it was returned to the store by another customer and there were no defects. The customer preferred to buy a watch with a bracelet rather than the "composite" band this watch had. I prefer composite bands as they fit my 9" wrists much better. Then we talked about price. The original MSRP was just under $300 which I would not have paid. Because there was a slight discoloration on the band I paid $35 for the watch plus it had a one year limited warranty. I paid for it immediately and walked out of the store. Just in case there was a misquote on the price. That was five years ago and I wear the watch constantly and it still has the same battery; I believe the battery has a ten year life span. My winter jacket is a Walmart Swiss Tech brand and I love it. I dislike bulky down jackets that make me look like the Michelin tire character. If it rains I wear a Coleman windproof and water resistant jacket over the top of the Swiss Tech. I Scotchguard my jackets every year. Columbia apparel is great quality but on the pricey side.

The water proofing on all modern rain gear, has to be re applied ever so often.
From memory one of the products is made by Nikwax.
Interestingly if you stand around an open camp fire were the smoke gets onto your jacket
This some how masks the waterproofing.
It’s very easy to see if it requires waterproofing.
The water no longer beads on the surface.
    Good luck.

I have a couple of Patagonia jackets. My only issue is that they don’t fit me well anymore. They are made for trim waistlines. Haha
Too bad about your jacket but seven years is pretty good

At 20:25. I have Columbia clothing and two winter coats. There is nothing wrong with the brand. Hunt around for sales on Columbia items since there are great deals at different times of the year.

That was indeed a good deal! I just bought a Columbia jacket online for almost $200 and it turns out it isn't even waterproof! Columbia is very well known in Seattle and used to be thought a good brand. Now, I'm not so sure.

Oh no. As I looked at some of the jackets at the Columbia Outlet, I did notice a few weren’t waterproof.

Sure sounds like an overall great deal. Years ago I had a great parka like that. Great jacket but living in FL, I no longer need such a jacket. It was great for skiing in NO CA. many moons ago, though. Hugs.

Other channels are releasing knock offs of your water filtration system set up. Your system is better as it's clear so you know exactly when to clean the filters (no excuses). I have the stainless but I have plans to get food grade clear buckets like yours as I always forget to check on the filters & throw them away as they get so filthy with city water. I really like the design you created in your earlier video. Simple, yet effective.

    • @StaticCamperVan
      @StaticCamperVan  10 місяців тому +1

In all fairness, I got the filter idea from other UA-cam channels. The reason why I chose the clear containers was simply price, availability and size. Those restaurant food containers fit in my small space.
I would prefer stainless steel. But the simplicity of the restaurant containers is nice.

The most snow I’ve ever seen was once in Yosemite. The snow pile was taller than me. But even in Southern California the temperatures drop well below freezing.

This is an unrelated question that I'm hoping someone can answer for me: What's the measured distance between the two bed "legs"? (The permanent ones at the base of the kitchen side of the build). Thanks! Really enjoy your videos, Scott!!

It has been layering weather here the past few weeks where light outerwear is needed until about 9 AM. So when I went to town this morning I figured I could go without a jacket. The heater would be on in the van, I could tolerate the short walk into the store, and the temperature would rise while I was getting groceries. But I was wrong. It was not only cold, it was windy. Your video has reminded me to get out my fleece pullover and, if it gets colder, my puffer jacket (which compresses to a little smaller than a quart of milk). Oh, and socks. I hate cold weather.
