  • Usually in XAMPP, when we start the Apache service, it starts with the default ports 80 and 443. But sometimes it may happen that, these default ports are occupied by some other process. Due to this the Apache service fails to start and gives an error stating that Apache has shut down unexpectedly.
This video covers two methods to resolve the Apache start failure. The video is a simple step-by-step guide. I hope that it helps you to overcome the Apache start error in XAMPP.
    Thank you.

The other simple option is to remove XAMPP and install again. May be try other location for installation. Set the path environment variable accordingly. Install using administrator privileges.

      Hi,
Try re-installing the XAMPP server, maybe in a different drive. Do set the path in the environment variables. Mostly the issue arises because of ports being used by other processes. You can use the netstat button to find the process which is using the needed port. Then from the task manager, you can close that process(if it is not some system or important process). But if XAMPP is not working then, you can use the WAMP server. You can use Local by FlyWheel too, for WordPress.

WERE TO SAVE IT AFTER CHANGING IT IN THE NOTEPAD

We just need to 'save' and not 'save as'. When we save the file, all the modifications are saved in the same file in its location. Saving a file will never ask for the location. But if we click 'Save As' instead of 'Save' then it will ask for a location as well as a file name. This is because 'Save As' means we are wanting to save a copy of the original file. So, only press 'Save'. The file will be saved in the same location where it is, automatically.

If the error is persistent then better reinstall the XAMPP on your system.

We can try some trouble shooting:
      1. First check if newly assigned port numbers are free. Maybe coincidently those new ports are already being used. Check this in netstat option in XAMPP control panel. And change them completely.
      2. Disable antivirus, if there is any in the system. Then check if error goes away or not.
      3. Turn Off Windows defender firewall. Then check if error persists or not.
      4. If nothing works then, try re-installing the XAMPP.

Try using WampServer. It's one of the alternatives to XAMPP.
