@@tomgallowitz Agree that Donna’s vocals are so top notch and interesting! In fairness, Ms. Peters captures such a nice softness and sweetness in even some of the most bold of characters. Just a super likeable quality for sure
Bernadette is age-defying! Funny how the revival Dollys are a generation older than the originals. Channing was only 43. Merman was the oldest at 61. The rest were on the sunny side of 50. Bette, Buckley and Bern are all past 70.
Overpaid to see Bette Midler and was so let down. Bette was not into it and it was lifeless. She also broke character 3 times at the performance I was at. It was like she was playing to tourist who just came to see Bette. Bernadette Peters was amazing! I went to see her twice. She never let's you down. A pro, a legend, and hasn't age a bit. She was stunning and energetic. I saw Channings in her last tour and she was the BEST Dolly in every way. The comedy is so important in this piece otherwise it's boring.
@@Offwego9876 well she did get her start in the original production of Fiddler on the Roof as a replacement for Tzietel. Then she started singing soul and rock N roll in clubs and bathhouses. Many of her concerts in the early days were recorded and put on HBO. She used to be something unique. Then she became an actress and that seemed to overshadow the singing.
Oh no Sir she doesn't. Her technique allows her to sing on the air and not belt and yell like another terrible performer from the past whose name I won't mention!
She indeed belts a bit but just in the end to pass orchestra and choir. Which is OK if you don't belt and chest all the time. As a woman voice it's absolutely ugly if you always do so actually!
@@theogoldberg8919 She sure is belting. And it's phenominals. Idk what you mean by sings on the air? It's supported belting and by no means yelling, but it's belting none the less
Great performance! But wait....is the orchestra really located in a giant open hole in the stage?!?! Is this a thing now? I can't see how this is safe and/or OSHA and Union compliant.
@@jadenbridges6159 yeah, no shit, i know what a pit is. i'm talking about this fucked-up and dangerous configuration where people are dancing *around* a giant fucking hole! a pit was always IN FRONT of the stage, not a HOLE IN THE MIDDLE of it.
An empty vessel…. I’m sorry but Streisand has no heart. The other ladies including the incomparable Pearl Bailey were each in their own way Dolly Levi through and through.
I love Streisand, but Channing owned Dolly. Streisand was a total miscast and way too young for the role. The movie was a flop. It should have been Carol Channing in the film version.
she sounds horrendous.. what was once considered a quirky character much like diane keaton, is embarrassingly displayed here in all its ineptitude. miss bern was just a charity case in the gay pantheon of misfit worship/
Huh? Why don’t you get up on the stage and belt out just one chorus of Hello Dolly …. and then we’ll do a review of you. It sure is easy to sit in the cheap seats and tear down a whole career in a UA-cam comment.
Like the review said - "She descends the staircase like she invented stairs!"
Oh that's the nicest thing to say to an interpreter that we invented it all but nope.!!!!!!
William Craig lmaoooo , YES... like damn... ive been doing stairs wrong my whole life.... ¿
I’ll have to watch it again but I believe she descended the stairs in time with the music. Nice touch, a real pro!
"wow wow WOW FELLAS!!" up the octave is perfection
This was such an epic night for me. She's always been my favorite so I went on her 70th birthday and she just tore the house down.
I've been privileged enough to attend the 2012 Tony's in New York when I was just in my sweet 19 and she shined!
...and she STILL looks Goddamn GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
omg shes 70 ?! i never could tell holy crap
I was there that night too 😭😭
Our Bernadette still has the voice love it
I swear this woman never ages
obviously you cant see how stretched her face is around the eyes
Impossible not to want to have Bernadette Peters as a relative, an alarm clock or a wallet or everything actually ahah
I can't believe Ms Peters is 70.
William Evans blew my mind
After seeing Bette’s performance, this really should have been Ms. Peters’ revival, and she should have the tony. Absolutely outstanding
Or Donna Murphy they acted the part, Bette was being herself being herself being Dolly
@@tomgallowitz isn’t that who Dolly is though. She is who the actress is. No actress has played Dolly the same and Bette killed it.

Channing reprised the role in 1994 at age 73 which included an international tour.
She was flawless. So glad i saw her. I cant picture bette m doing this role at all!
I saw all three women in this role and enjoyed all three. They each put their own spin on Dolly, and it worked .
Well she did - and she was great - and made the show such a huge hit that it made it possible for Bernadette to take on the role.

I saw her on Broadway doing this - She was Ab Fab :).

Yes indeed thousand thanks for this!
Marry me, Bernadette! I'll be happy to sign a prenub!!!!!! 😘💞😍

Was this in Kansas City
"I dont think were in Kansas anymore"
does anyone know what the name of this theater is
This was at the Shubert!
How does that guy have a high pitched voice?
I think his character is a kid, like those old fashioned paper boys.
HMMMmmmmmm.....
Bette Midler did wayyy better.
