      There are from the Middle East not the Dominican Republic. It must be a different species you saw. :)

    Great video! Quick question! Just picked up my first scorpion tailed gecko but he is rather thin, he is to shy to tong feed but I'm working on it. Any advice on chunking them up a bit? Maybe black solder fly larvae as a treat/extra fat? Keep up the great videos! :) 🦎

    Love your videos as always, but what makes you say they’re nocturnal? The few sources I have found have said they’re diurnal and thus why they need UVB.

    • @LivingArtbyFrankPayne
      @LivingArtbyFrankPayne  2 роки тому +1

      They are out and basking all day and occasionally active during the day. However, they are MUCH more active at night. There's a specific term for this kind of behavior although it escapes me now. UV is definitely a necessity imo.

    Nice! I may have missed it in the video but what substrate do you use and what size enclosure would you suggest if keeping one or two as pets?

    • @LivingArtbyFrankPayne
      @LivingArtbyFrankPayne  2 роки тому +3

      Just sand is good. A 10 gallon would be a good size. Larger is better.

    Great video! Do you have hatchlings of both sexes? My friend does incubation at constant temps and only gets males. He tried several different temperatures from 82 to 90. What about the egg mortality? Maybe the day-night cycle is the key... I would really appreciate your answer, thanks!

    • @LivingArtbyFrankPayne
      @LivingArtbyFrankPayne  7 місяців тому +2

      I incubate at a constant temp of 85 at this point and get a nice even ratio of the sexes. Egg and hatchling mortality is very low, maybe 10%.

      @NobleSerpents 7 місяців тому +1

      @@LivingArtbyFrankPayne Thank you very much for your answer. This is what I would expect. It is weird he gets only males and has high egg mortality rates. His incubator is also good quality without fluctuations, has no problems incubating other species. Just weird, might be problem of the adults then. Was hoping to give him some answers since he does not speak English.. but more mysteries, yay! Once again, this video is an amazing information source, thank you for it :)

    Amazing work! I always love to see people working with more unique gecko species! Im very surprised the eggs can handle the temp flux! Do you incubate other eggs like this with success?

    • @LivingArtbyFrankPayne
      @LivingArtbyFrankPayne  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you! Yes most of the species I breed I let the eggs fluctuate like this.

      @@LivingArtbyFrankPayne Thats incredible, do you notice it effects hatch rates? or hatch times? also (sorry for all the questions) but do you have an idea of what the humidty for the eggs of this species should be? I cant find much info on that besides having slightly damp vermiculite. Reguardless, thank you for the reply! Love your work! (:
